I really like Silver's ending here. At the start of his story, he's angry that he cannot finish Iblis, and by the end of the story he learns how to do it, and does it on his own. And not by changing the past, but by learning from it - specifically that Iblis can be sealed. There's a clear arc here, even if it's small. I also like how Silver laments after meeting Sonic, asking if it's okay for the world to lose a person for the greater good, and that's exactly what happens with Blaze here, leaving Silver to probably wonder this question once more. I like how throughout the story, Silver actively works towards his goal, picking up clues, putting on a facade of a force to be reckoned with, even if inside he's conflicted. He does his best to save the world he obviously cares for, worrying that the future is horrible and being amazed by the beauty of the past, even if he's misguided by Mephiles. I can feel some of the old Knuckles here. It's shameful that the Last Story takes a dump all over Silver's (and Shadow's) story ending. It would be better if the game ended without any Last Story at all, since there's really nothing to wrap up in it. In fact it's arguably the only part of this game's plot that actively causes time paradoxes.
Elise having a chaos emerald since childhood is a paradox. How did sonic ever go super lol? Most of the paradoxes stem from shadow and silvers story since they use time traveling the most.
The ending is a masterpiece you feel the despair that Silver-kun feels in not being able to seal that baka Iblis. It is bittersweet when Blaze-chan gives her life to seal Iblis. Yes Iblis is defeated but Silver-kun has no one else in his harem except for Amy-sama. Now Sonic-senpai, Silver-kun and Amy-sama are in a bit of a love triangle. And that concludes my 100% canon fan fiction.

I came from the recently posted highlights video and just wanted to say that the 1000 Miles version of the ending was disgustingly beautiful and that I appreciate it very much.
Well over 2 years later and I still love the ending to this part. The continuation of a running joke with a Thousand Miles, everyone's eventual realisation that the mashup is unironically good, TJ's devastation over Blaze's death, and the genuinely moving seconds of silence while the song gently winds up and Silver is just standing there, left alone with only the Chaos Emeralds and Blaze's final instructions. Actual art.

to be honest, I will probably say that as a heavy metal fan, I find the Flame Core music decent. not out of this world by any means, but I do find it OK. I'd say that the weakest music track for this game would maybe be the Radical Train mach speed section, not that it's bad or anything, it's just the one I remember the least and when I listen to the game's soundtrack I never come back to Radical Train. also, some facts for you (I was going to post this on the final part of Sonic's story as I saw you were talking about Sonic's level variations, but I forgot). barring Radical Train, the levels with mach speed sections (Wave Ocean, Crisis City and Kingdom Valley) for Sonic, have hang glider sections for Shadow and one less section for Silver (I know Silver doesn't go through Wave Ocean, but even Blaze only has one section in that level). Silver does go through one section of Radical Train, however Shadow doesn't use the hang glider, instead taking the motorcycle. the normal levels for Sonic (White Acropolis, Flame Core and Aquatic Base) all feature either a motorcycle or a buggy for Shadow and are levels where Silver goes through both sections (even if Blaze has an exclusive section for the first half of White Acropolis. also I don't know why there's a motorcycle in Shadow's version of Aquatic Base, but then again, the game makes no sense as I never had a say in anything). levels where Sonic carries Elise without somehow breaking her fucking neck (Dusty Desert and Tropical Jungle) have sections in Shadow and Silver's story that Sonic doesn't go through (Sonic doesn't go into the temple in the desert nor the ruins in the jungle). despite interacting in the future, Sonic and Shadow never actually switch as the lead playable character in Crisis City or Flame Core, whilst Shadow and Silver switch in Aquatic Base and Sonic and Silver switch in Kingdom Valley. (I guess Silver was special) Sonic's first two levels are Shadow's last two levels (Wave Ocean and Dusty Desert). the sixth level in all stories is Radical Train. this is set for all the lead characters to interact after they go through the level. although there are nine levels in the game, only Sonic will go through all nine. Shadow and Silver play through eight each, Shadow gives Rouge the lead in Tropical Jungle and Blaze takes Silver's role for Wave Ocean. Tails is the only character to go through one level twice in one story. after assisting Sonic during the first time, he goes there a second time for no fucking reason. the only time one character switches to both of their companions is in Sonic's Aquatic Base, where he switches to both Tails and Knuckles at some point. despite the entirety of Team Dark going through Wave Ocean and Dusty Desert, only Shadow and Omega will be playable, and Amy doesn't stay with Silver long enough to be introduced to Blaze. so feel free to leave me some feedback guys. there's nothing I love more than expressing my knowledge about something I love. Call me crazy (Not literally), but I kind of like Iblis' design there. He's practically a god that holds the form of a lava monster. His exterior with the large stone spines and what appear to be horns coming from his sides does look kinda neat.

I can't believe the writers failed to realize how absurdly stupid the conclusion of Silver's story is. Sonic's plan was to save Elise to prevent the bad future, but Silver lets Sonic go alone and instead goes back to his own time. Upon Silver's return, the future is still in ruins, which means Sonic failed! Instead of realizing that he could time travel back to help Sonic and prevent the bad future, he decides to try sealing Iblis within himself. This is in spite of the fact that he had heard the Duke of Soleanna clearly state that Iblis may only be sealed inside people with royal blood, of which Elise was the last! Even still, Silver's plan of sealing Iblis in the future only stops the current destruction of an already ruined world, while helping Sonic's plan to save Elise in the past would prevent it entirely! To make it even stupider, Blaze steps in to seal Iblis within herself after Silver fails, even though she's also not of the Soleanna royal family. To conclude this shitstorm of hack writing, Blaze succeeds because her soul is "lit with flames", and she dies in a flash of light. (No, she wasn't sent to another realm, as she told Silver to use Chaos Control to do so, but he does nothing. Dick move ignoring your friend's dying wish, Silver!) Fuck this game.
