Violin pulls at the heart strings more so than the oboe that the tune was meant for.

Even if it's Renaud Capuçon who is playing... I definitively prefer oboe for that piece !!! Violin does not have the warmth of the oboe...
I prefer oboe over violin, and cello over oboe! For the that's the ascending order of warmth. Yo-Yo Ma's rendition of this is breathtaking
I don't think it has anything to do with warmth really. Simply the original piece was intended for the oboe, thus having Morricone as the composer, he must have had it written this to hit the oboistic delightful spots of the instrument. Also we have heard the oboe original version so much. And this is an arrangement. Everything Renaud plays from some point ahead isn't from the composer. You can't ask genius from a humble arrangement.

Very generic playing. Makes you realise why Yo-Yo Ma is so celebrated.
Additionally, this is an overdecorated arrangement that interferes with the fundamental simplicity of the original and blurs its unique harmonic sense.
We know and we love Sir Yo Yo Ma version.. But Renaud is unique, with too much love Madame ♥️
