When the wind is coming from a certain direction you get that foul fish smell in and around svolvaer. Worst in spring though. When windows are open: "what is that smell? Did I forgot some trash? Oh, right! The drying cod heads!"
I love the daily vlogs very much, Norway is a brilliant place to visit but seeing it through yours and Toms eyes has been wonderful, so thank you both very much.
Lovely to see out and about in a Norwegian town and really interesting stuff about the history of the place. Another video full of breathtaking scenery too.
I was there in 2019. The football pitch was a bit of a surprise. I know many here are vegan, but there are just the best of sheepskins to be gotten from Viggo Lartensen nearby.
Tom, yet again you have created an amazing vlog with absolutely astonishing drone footage and great musical accompaniment. These daily vlogs are an absolute treat, thank you. Stay safe.
The Joker food shops is actually of the cheaper ones in Norway, but since everything must be transported to these islands and other small places, the prices is bigger then average due to the transportcosts !
Been watching you guys the last couple of days! I think youtube recommended me this because this is my area, maybe! No idea, but I've been really enjoying it! Not sure where your route goes later, but if you're driving back down through Norway there's a great lighthouse called Tranøy fyr right across the fjord from Lofoten. Hamarøy and Steigen are what's across the fjord from Lofoten and honestly very underrated!
I've visited that Viking longhouse. Definitely worth visiting. Drying cod doesn't stink. It smells of MONEY! Fun fact; Italy paid for their debt(from buying dried cod) before WWII with a couple of bombers. (Several Caproni 310, and a Breda 28 as a trainer.) Worst deal ever... Brazil... Know two things about Norway. 1. We always beat them in Soccer... which they forgive us for because... 2. We sell them drived cod which they need to make Bacalao.
From the north Cape if you drive down and cross over to Karagsniemi into Finland you just head south towards Roverniemi. Then your are about 850klm from Helsinki where you can take a 2.30 hours ferry to Estonia. Safe journey.
Watching and listening to Tom speaking of the road ahead to Estonia and while mulling over my comment with La Bamba for once foremost in my mind. Apart from the few running repairs, have to say it's been (and am sure will continue to be) a trojan campervan. Then Isabel stops in her tracks and points to it...😂 Another lovely relaxed Vlog....🚐👏👏☘
Another amazing vlog! Always full of captivating content and so punctual!! 5pm on the dot!!! I wondered if the colour of the sea might be due to minerals from the melted snow runoff of the surrounding mountains? Beautiful none the less. Well done guys.
I'm going to Lofoten this friday. I will be backpacking there for 10 days, so your videos came just in time to give me some idea of where to go. It looks incredible and you got some nice weather. I'll be sure to go for a swim as well :D
As you say you could explore Lofoten for much longer but you must get cracking over to Sweden and Finland. Great to see the place, I’ve been to Narvik and Tromso but not the islands. Lovely video.👍👍Mike 🍷🍷
Wow your vlogs are just fantastic. We want to go to Norway and have watched most of the vlogs on utube but yours are by far the best, most informative, most fun and great to watch 👏🏻👏🏻
Guys are you still in Norway?? My partner and I emigrated over here last year…from one Brit to another you’d be welcome to come and say hi! We’re about 30mins South of Oslo near a lovely place called Søn (for the Oslo fjord) and also quite close to the Swedish border!
I did this trip 8 yr ago amazing i recomend driving to Vardø -just a remote scary cold and sad place i think. but interesting and beautiful, just i would not live there. the Varanger island is just amazing and no people
Hi Thé green blue water is glacier melt water. The glacier melt water is fresh water and it sits on top of the sea water. As a scuba diver when you jump in it looks like heat haze and that’s the salt water and fresh water mixing

Loving the daily logs, you both are smashing it. But I have to complain: I now need to buy a drone after seeing all your super footage from yours, but where to start, I haven't a clue.
We have the DJI mavic mini two. The cheapest in their line up and you can get amazing images from it. Highly recommend, also get the fly more combo for extra batteries and stuff. I think we have a link in our description
@@LostInTransit That's great, thanks. We're hopefully off to Malaysia in 7 weeks, perhaps I need to buy it now and start practising. How much practice do you need to master it?
Sadly you didn't go to Røst... You mentioned the italian merchant. His name was Pietro Querini and his ship got into a storm on the way to the netherlands, and lost rudder and sails. So for over a month they were drifting till they hit a reef outside Røst. They got into their light boats and found an island where there were some small shelters for sheeps. This was in the middle of the winter, so the sheds, which were made for sheeps, was empty. One of the young men did by chance deicide to take a trip out to see. Why? Not sure since my memory of the story isn't the best... But heard he had a "feeling" of something was wrong. He found the men and got some one the main island to go out after the rest. Some on the islands are remarkably dark in the skin, so some believe that some of the sailors did leave a mark on the island. In more than one way. As you mentioned: this opened up for trade of stockfish to italy. My brother is now working in Italy. Years back he did make "stockfish from Lofoten" a trademark. On the same level as lets say cognac and champagne. Since you both seems to be very "spiritual". Here is a song by the group Heilung. To describe the music, "amplified history" covers the most! Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/SVbc_Fwbt50/видео.html
Amazing! Thank you so much for more detail on the story. It is a shame we missed the spot. The visuals on that music video are amazing! Wow, very cool, again thanks
@@LostInTransit Well... more or less all tourists are taking your route, so the little island doesn't get that much attention. Mostly because it's easier to promote the archipelago. Though... we get a lot of biologists, birdwatchers and fishers from other nordic countries.

Thank you for bringing it to life! ☺️ Will you ever post the bit of video you have of the Viking Longhouse (day 30)? ... It looks quite a lot bigger than the one in Waterford ! 😉
I’m not sure what we will do with the long house footage (it was 83m). It mostly consists of two exhausted people walking around a museum, haha. We have a lot off footage that never makes the vlogs, think we could retire now and just publish videos using our old footage for the next year or so
Don't know what the Italians do with all that dried cod but it certainly didn't look too appetising hanging up on those racks! 😮😮😮 Great vlog, loving the entire series! 😎😎😎👍
Well, from Narvik toTalinn you can make it in 3 days, so still lets to visit to see on the Lofoten and Vesteralen or you decide to come back one day. I am sure you know the heads of the cod get sold to Africa. During the cod fish season from Jan-April the kids on the Lofoten earn a lot of money by cutting off the tongue of the cods.
