What a fantastic tutorial video. Stephan is a real master at the engine removal. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you- also on behalf of Stephan - glad you enjoyed it 😉
Thanks for that guys! I have a 2023 and hope to never need to do this. But, it definitely helps me with other maintenance processes that I might need. I got me a digital manual as well for the iPad after seeing yours was very comprehensive. Nice job! Can’t wait to see it go back in. That’ll be fun…………not.
Thank you very much- we have not yet picked up the engine but I hope to be there was the installation 😉
Great video. Loved it 🏆
Thank you very much 😉
Good old bikes, god bless vintage
Looks just as much work to do the valve clearances on the 1290 as it was on the 990 I had! Good content, very interesting.
Thank you very much - did you have to remove the engine for the valve clearances on the 990?! 😳
Elle sera prête pour les prochaines aventures! 👍
Exactly
Hi
I From Kochi
Nice Video
Thank you very much 😉
Open heart surgery of the " BEAST "
Amazing video , brilliant detail , all made look so easy by your mechanic .
I've only ever stripped the bodywork and tank off my 2023 model .
I hope i never need to go to your level of engine out 🙏
Well done, guys . Good luck with putting it back together again . I hope you remember which screw goes where 😅😅😅
Good luck
She got a big heart 😂 thank you very much- putting it back in will likely take a lot more time
Been waiting for this, thanks and keep up, love ktms ❤ Also Stefan is unbolting everything with such speed and precision 🤏
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed this. It’s probably not for everyone 😉
I cannot stress out enough the benefits of having the manual in digital form. Search function, going back and forth between the different steps, zooming in on pictures to see precisely what's what. And also, a tablet/keyboard can be wiped off while paper will just stain. And while I'm not a very big fan of advanced tech, having in the future some "AI" (or neural network to be more precise ) to help with the repair in combination with a proper set of AR glasses would allow anybdy to fix their bikes/cars. But I guess that'll make us a bit dumber :))
The shop manual was quite good and KTM makes it available to anyone - not all manufacturers do
Nice Video. So next to your Super Adventure R with motor damage now your Super Adventure S also has servir engine damage. I really like these bikes and was looking for it as a replacement for my own bike, but sorry KTM I read to much quality issues, also in current models.
On this engine Stephan thinks the damage was due to a bad service when the bike still had low milage but we will know the exact reason soon
And from my side - it’s the first of over 13 KTM 1190/1290 with such a problem - the dealer overfilled the oil by 600ml when new and my longterm wise I think it damaged the oil pump
Will there be a follow up video on what the fault was and the re fitting? Great video as always.
That is the plan. I hope it works out with the timing of it 😉
Hello thanks for the interesting and informative video. Out of curiosity, was the cost of a new engine verses a complete rebuild considered as a viable option?
Thank you very much. I don’t really know how much this particular engine cost - my guess is somewhere in the range of 6000-8000 Euros which makes a full rebuild a very viable option
Very interesting to see what's under the skin of these bikes but there's so many fasteners and cover panels! The labour costs for servicing are being rung up for removing so much body work.
Absolutely. Putting it back together will be the real challenge 😉
@@MotoVibesI've done engine replacement years ago but it was an air cooled engine from the 80s, Honda 900. The amount of electrical connectors is staggering on this bike.
@@firestorm755 indeed. Lots of electrical connections- I was surprised too 😉
Me: KTM engine removal... first get a good crow-bar, then warm up the Oxyacetylene Torch ;-)
Even my limited dismantling of mine, KTM constant need to use different sized bolts\ screw on the same part is really annoying.
Thanks for showing us.
Thanks for watching 😉👍
Talking about the side stand reallocation kit. I did mine, one main reason. A guy just skidded on tarmac and side stand caught an imperfection in the road. Cracked the engine. Game over.
I would do it if I were u. Please do
Thanks for sharing and the tip 😉👍
OMG...was für eine Arbeit😱...Was macht der Stefan da ohne den Schrauber😎...was das normalerweise kostet🙄
War schon spannend - interessant wird der Einbau ;-)
Congratulations it’s a boy 😂
Really enjoyed that my German friend
I had to carry out a similar operation
Stupidly I go distracted by a lady driver in the garage
And filled my bike with Diesel ⛽️
Much to my buddies amusement 😮
I had to strip my bike down to expose the plugs and empty the tank of all the diesel
We managed to get my bike up and running again
And now have a new nick name 😢
You and Steffens deserve a Jack Daniel’s after that
Perhaps wait till it is back together and running 🏍️🌬️
That will have to wait indeed but whiskey it will be 🤙
It's heart broken 😔
Will u be finding what happened wrong? Or just a new engine in it?
No. We know what parts have been replaced- if I do get around to filming the install I will list all the parts. 😉
@@MotoVibes would love to know it you don't get around to doing a video on it
@@DaveDayve i will share this one way or another 😉
I'm curious as ro what was wrong 60k should have went double that no problem.
I will find out soon
Phew, my 990 SMT was so much easier. Even easier was my 1100 engine from my Hypermotard, which felt like it's just exhaust manifold, throttlebodies, two or three wires and two chassis bolts. A two beer job.
I bet 😉 putting it back in will take a few more beers 😉
This is an adventure motorbike 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Even bigger adventure will be putting the engine back in 😂
@@MotoVibes 💪 u can do it
60k km and doing weird noises 🤣🤣
The dealer overfilled the oil - bike has not been quite the same since
@@MotoVibes in africa twin u can overfill, no problem
KTM often gets damaged, BMW and HONDA are more reliable motorcycles...
I've had Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, nothing is Perfect.
It's a lottery. I've had my bad experiences with KTM.
Though I've had faultless KTMs. They don't rust like Honda does. But Honda is probably slightly more reliable if u where to research
@@DaveDayve I agree...
So this is common with ktms
That is all true but KTM makes damn excting bike - Just had a KTM 890 Adventeure R for 2 days for an advanced off-road training. It is a riot to ride this bike - I also had a quick run on a T700 - also a nice bike especially the engine was great off-road but I liked the ergonomics of the KTM much better. The T700 suspension was better than I thought it would be but the XPLOR suspension by KTM is in an entirely different league
but no horsepower 😂😂 like all japanees bikes 😢@@DaveDayve
