  • My first block of commercials from the 1960s! Don't worry! I'll still be posting 80s, 90s & 00s but I had these & thought I'd at least get them out there! This block is from the 1st appearance of the Beatles in America on the 2/9/1964 episode of "The Ed Sullivan Show!" In this one, we have:

    Cold Water All laundry detergent
    Pillsbury quick refrigerated dinner rolls
Pillsbury Hawaiian Pineapple cake frosting & Lemon Creme cake mix
    Pillsbury fudge brownie mix

The sponsors of the program at the time were American Home Products [Boyle-Midway division {Aero Shave, Griffin}, Whitehall Laboratories division {Anacin}], Pillsbury, Lever Brothers [All], and Lorillard Tobacco [Kent].

I remember seeing the Aero Shave commercial in 1977 at the Museum of Broadcasting, and couldn't get over those short hair styles! Some 40 years or so later, I saw the same commercial again, and was not at all shocked. We had since gone back to that kind of short hair!

Haha that always to be what happens with styles and fashions!

Notice how that Aero Shave commercial compares it to "the leading lather". Not "shaving cream", but "lather". That's because the "lather" was just a foaming chemical that foamed when sprayed from an aerosol can, but was diluted 90%, so the foam would turn to water in just a few seconds.
Aero Shave was one of several shaving creams, including Rise, to try this trick. They all got busted for false advertising.

Been a little down since I was diagnosed this week with tupe 2 diabetes, and hypertension. Thought I'd watch some vintage commercials to take my mind off of that. Then from 3:03 on, I laughed at the irony.

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis but yeah, the way they used to advertise & the stuff they sold to people sure didn’t help later generations! It certainly is some irony!
