- Learn how to make the best chocolate cake ever! This chocolate cake recipe makes soft, moist and super rich cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting. This cake is ultimate for parties, birthdays and holidays. This recipe is very easy to make, you need only two bowls and 2 cake pans, even if you are not an experienced baker, you can make this cake.

Ingredients:
For the cake:
1¾ cups (220g) Flour
3/4 cup (75g) Cocoa powder
1½ teaspoons Baking soda
1 teaspoon Baking powder
1¾ cups (350g) Sugar
1/4 teaspoon Salt
2 Eggs
1 cup (240ml) Buttermilk
1/2 cup (120ml) Vegetable oil
1 cup (240ml) Coffee
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
For the frosting:
3/4 cup (175g) Butter, softened
1½ cups (335g) Cream cheese, room temperature
2/3 cup (67g) Cocoa powder
1½ cups + 2 tbsps. (200g) Powdered sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Directions:
1. Make the cake: Preheat the oven to 350˚F (180C˚). Butter two 8-inch (20cm) cake pans and line the bottoms with a parchment paper, grease the sides. Lightly dust with cocoa powder. Set aside.
2. To a large bowl add flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir well and set aside.
3. In a separate bowl mix buttermilk, coffee (or water), eggs, oil and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
4. Add the wet mixture to the dry, whisk until incorporated.
5. Pour the batter into prepared pans.
6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely before frosting.
7. Make the frosting: in a large bowl beat butter until light and fluffy. Add cream cheese and beat until combined and smooth. Add cocoa powder vanilla extract and salt. Beat until combined. gradually add powdered sugar, beat on low speed until combined and creamy.
8. Transfer the frosting into a piping bag. Cut the top of the cakes.
9. Place one cake layer with flat side down. Spread a layer of frosting, place the second layer of cake on top of the frosting, flat side up. Spread evenly the frosting on top and sides of the cake.
10. Refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours before serving.
Notes:
• Use good quality cocoa powder
• You can bake both pans at the same time. My oven is too small, so I baked it separately.
• If you don’t have buttermilk you can make homemade buttermilk: whisk 1 tablespoon of vinegar/lemon juice with 1 cup of milk and let sit for 10 minutes.

Fabby Fella : didn’t replace anything. Exact measurements. I removed the cake out of the oven @25min. It came out really moist. Make sure you get it out when you get the toothpick clean. I boiled 1 cup of water and added 1 tablespoon of coffee , cooled it, filtered it & mixed it in batter. I am not sure how the video uploader did it. All the best.

I tried this recipe a few days ago for a friend gathering and it was phenomenal. I would highly recommend this recipe. It’s super simple and easy to whip up and has the best outcome, moist cake and delicious frosting. 12/10 would recommend.

I made this cake last night. It was the first cake that I baked and it was really really good. The whole fam loves it. Its a great recipe for beginners in baking. I followed the recipe and used grams when measuring. I also improvised on the buttermilk by using 1 cup Full Cream Milk and 1tbsp of White Vinegar. I also used Liquid coffee, 1 cup of water and 2tsp of coffee powder. I will never ever buy a chocolate cake again, I will just make one ❤

I tried this yesterday. I reduced the amount of sugar as suggested in one of the comments but it came out less sweet. The frosting compensates for it but I would stick to the same measurements next time.
The coffee water really added to the taste.

I just made this cake and it came out perfect!😊 I didn’t have buttermilk so i made my own by mixing 3/4 cup of sour cream with 1/4 cup of water.
once i added a little bit much baking soda and my whole batch of pancake smelled so bad and was bitter in taste
if i add 1 + baking soda here as well as baking powder, will the scent be okay?

büşra aydın it’s the liquid left over when butter is made. it’s a little thicker than regular milk but I’m sure it will come out good if you use regular milk.

My chocolate cake recipe , add : 250g of flour,1/4 cup cocoa powder unsweetened,1 3/4 cups sugar 350g,2 teaspoon baking powder ( if needed or want to use ), 250g butter or 2 tablespoon oil,1 cup water or 1 cup milk,3 eggs,mix well and bake for 350f/176.667 c for 30 to 35 min for round 9 inch cake mould.For 14 inch round cake mould you need to lower the temperature to 325 F for 50-55 minutes.For chocolate frosting, Before you get started for the chocolate frosting, make sure you are using very soft butter, sifted powdered sugar, sifted cocoa powder and be prepared to adjust the thickness of the frosting with a little more milk or a little more powdered sugar. If you’re going to pipe this recipe, you’ll want it more stiff so it holds its shape, if you’re wanting to frost a cake, you’ll want it slightly thinner and more easily spreadable. Whip butter and cocoa together until smooth in large bowl.
Stir in vanilla and powdered sugar.
Slowly stream in milk until frosting reaches desired consistency.
Scrape sides and whip again until light, fluffy and smooth, 1-2 minutes. Apply the frosting onto your cake and let it cool on a wire rack for 20 to 25 minutes, if you use fan it will cool more faster.Please try out this recipe anyone,it's perfect for any occasion and it has a really delicious taste.

Misha Patel you can just add 1tbsp vinegar to half cup milk to make buttermilk. Let the mixture set for 5-10 mins and it’s ready :)

I tried it. It’s very chocolaty and moist. Personally, I don’t like that much sugar so I just put one cup in which was still really sweet but it was delicious. Mine didn’t rise much in the middle and turned out more like a brownie cake but it’s so chocolatey. Any chocoholic would love it
