From all of us at Vanderhall, thank you Jay, for the time you spent with us, being a gracious host, sharing your the insights into your cars, (knocking out the foot well in the Lotus was a real nice touch for tall guys), and just getting to spend time in the ultimate man-cave with you was truly a great experience. Personally a little enamored with the home built, Indian-powered, enclosed trike. Thank you for all you do for all things motorized and wheeled. -Vanderhall Motor Works
Classy!!
I will look for the Indian powered enclosed trike. It sounds interesting.
Are there any plans for an enclosed Vanderhall? Or perhaps some kind of attachable roof?
Can I come work at your company
@Vanderhall Motor Works Yes, Bob Shotwell's Indian powered 3 wheel car is a true piece of America's youth from a different generation!
An entrepreneurial spirit for a niche market, that employs 35 people; that's something one can take a lot of pride in. Well done.

Roger McFarland awesome!
justin baker then get Elon to make TESLA FARM EQUIPMENT that weed farm millennials can control from their phones. lol I’m serous
Finally a niche vehicle maker that is not over-charging customers! Bravo!
The man really has done a great job.
I had gotten the privilege of riding in one of these, they're fantastic!! I look foward to driving mine in the near future
Much sexier looking than the Slingshot. The vintage-like styling it has is beautiful.
X2.
Honestly I know a couple who has a Slingshot, and I always sit there when I look at it and think, "I wish this had a more classic look".
looks better than a slingshot but not as good as a Campagna T-Rex
Really great! I am retired, 82 years old and have owned/ driven 56’ Chevy Bel Air powerpack, 57 TR3, Fiat Abarth Zagato, 61 Corvette, Shelby Mustang GT350, Toyota Camry V6 and others. I could see myself in the Vanderhall driving through wine country with my wife beside me on a beautiful summer day. You never know!
Well, 4 year post. Did you buy a Vanderhall??
what a bunch of snotty negative comments. I like the style of the morgan better but this is better than all the other 3 wheel cars out there. very impressive and Jay is right about the low cost. The ability to make a car company from scratch is itself amazing. Steve hall and his employees should be very proud of what they have accomplished. Big thumbs up.
Well said, I agree totally. I'm pretty sure many of the snide comments are getting the wrong idea about this vehicle....
I agree Robb , a commendable achievement, the snotts sit on their collective backsides criticising other peoples ideas and work and achieve nothing themselves
Robb's Homemade Life this car will flop a auto trans in a 3 wheeler . Something for all retired people feel sporty in
I think I would take one of these over a can am spyder. This looks way better.
Bender Fender What about a Polaris slingshot?
Don't understand those negative comments either. To me this is one of the nicest looking threewheelers so far. The front is astonishing!
Trolls hate on anything someone else accomplishes. Envy. :(
Don Krypton the only people hating this they own a Polaris slingshot I don't blame them lol
yes it looks a lot better than many three wheelers.
Don Krypton abn
How can you not understand people have different opinions, i personally think its ugly. That does not mean it is ugly. Just in my eyes it is.
The fact that Jay asked if he had veterans working for him, makes me like him more than I already did.
Jay is such a class act with incredible automotive knowledge.
And I was just thinking the same thing
Did he comment this?
Yeah, he just doesn't know the difference between a toggle switch and a rocker switch...
I've had my '22 Venice since Sept of '21 and still smile every time I drive it. I fell in love with the Morgan 3-wheeler when I was a kid and I think this is even better. The front-wheel drive makes it so easy to launch that power. This episode of Leno's Garage helped me decide it was what I wanted. If anyone watches this and gets one, I highly recommend getting a Banks iDash and putting it right in the middle of the dash. Perfect way to get all of those vital stats for this car.
Nic, is installation if a Banks iDash as simple as plugging into the Vanderhalls' OBD 2 port? Just picked up a used 2019 Venice is I'm in love.
I drove this car in LA. When you are behind the wheel, all of the specs just fade away into insignificance. It was really a blast to drive.
Jared Rosenholtz One of the few informed and honest opinions so far....thanks...👍
das 1988 well, most of these people haven't driven it. So I don't blame them for not fully understanding how the car feels
This statement goes for most cars like this, specs mean nothing when the car is so light, responsive and fun to drive.
So true!
it looks great
There will always be a bunch of internet armchair reviewers when it comes to criticising someone's work; but to me this looks honestly made and a fair price, it looks like a blast to have as a second vehicle. Sure the big manufacturers will always be able to produce something that would be a more logical buy, but it will likely be sanitised and less human than trying out a product closer tied to the dreams and efforts of a small group of people.
Although all the engineers probably sneered at Jay for requesting a gear readout as opposed to just listening to the engine, I think that sounds a good idea to help get used to the vehicle initially. But I'd love to give one a try and I'm not even from the US, so kudos for whoever took the effort to give manufacturing this a shot and make this a reality.
Well done Mr. Hall! Finally someone that is marketing to the masses. I hope you sell a billion of these.
They may, but go to the web site... The base vehicle with nothing is $30k. The options of items everyone will want adds up very fast.
This thing goes to 70k with all all good option ....who gonnabe spend that much on that when u can buy brand new bmw
I just saw one of these in the wild, going around Dallas. I thought it was a Morgan, as I hadn't heard the name Vanderhall, yet. I'm so glad I caught up with the owner and got the name. What an awesome vehicle, and cool company!
I love watching Jay conduct his interviews. He keeps looking at the vehicles with a lusty look, you know he just wants to ride/ drive the vehicles.!
That's probably the first three wheeler I'd consider owning. Pretty cool and well put together.
this is a beautiful car and this American car company should be supported especially here in the USA thanks for the great video Jay
I would pick this up over a can-am in a heartbeat. Looks fantastic.
K20C4Sam can -am is trash
I think of the Can Am Spyder as a different type of vehicle.
@@rufiooolibby9618 Says the guy who can't afford a 50cc scooter, lol. I see your channel fool.
The vanderhall is front wheel drive so it's a no for me. Also this trike is literally 30k as compared to say a polaris slingshot at 20k, a can am spyder at 14k, or a can am ryker at 8k. It's just not worth the money.
the Polaris is much better
Just drove one the other day this is truly something special seriously considering buying one...
I have to have one of these... I have said from the first time I saw a Morgan 3-Wheeler that this is the perfect application for FWD. I love that it has a tiny turbocharged engine and looks like an old open-wheel racer done new style. Looks like the most hilarious thing ever.
I enjoy the fact that it's designed and built by a small American company . Plus it's affordable .
I had a chance to take this vehicle for a spin, and I was amazed at how awesome it handled, and the way the vehicle hugged the road. My favorite thing about the car was the acceleration though by far.
Sweet Ride!
The reflectors built into the wheel center caps is a cool idea!
If I drove that, I would totally wear the driving gloves, leather cap, goggles, and scarf, just to 'play it up.' ;)
A Goggles Piasano🏆Me too👍
Yeah and ditch the passenger unless it's a petite lady :-)
And a leather travel trunk at the back.
LOL yea looks like your pretty damn close to the passenger! @@MagicAyrtonforever
Louis Aloi ... Piasano? Is that a keyboard playing Paisano?
I want one of these! I was able to test drive a Vanderhall and it was sweet! It was fast, rides smooth and has a beautiful look. I felt like a million bucks driving this thing around. Definitely catches the eyes of other drivers. The price is amazing too. Sign me up!
These cars are awesome! I've seen them personally and they really are slick machines that look and sound great!
Great video. The Venice is very well showcased here. The care and craftsmanship that goes into designing, manufacturing and assembling these is amazing.
"Modern Retro" done right...
Beautiful design, beautiful finishes. I especially like the rims on the first one. Man, these are great.
Yep best looking 3 wheeler I’ve seen ...
timothy weigall looks like a trike, sounds like an Opel Kadett in the wrong gear.
it's a nice summer weekend vehicle.. love the engine and the steering wheel .
Beautiful vehicle! What a work of art! I hope you guys sell many! The 'fun factor' looks amazing.
IMHO one of the best 4 cyl exhaust notes I've ever heard.
Looks like a fun little unit for the money. If this thing was junk Jay would have never did this review on it. Jay had nothing but praise for it thats good enough for me...he knows cars inside and out.
This guy knows his stuff.
He builds a niche fun vehicle with off the shelf GM parts with a few really nice touches and with a selling price of $30 grand !!
Great work hope you sell loads
Definitely a good looking car, hoping to see more about it soon!
I just love its looks... So classy looking...
These are all over Salt lake City, even in the cool weather!
Stick that up your chuff Morgan! Fantastic vehicle at a very sensible price. Congratulations Steve Hall. When I get too old for riding motorcycles I want one of them!
My neighbor just picked up one of these. Never heard of it, and that’s why I’m here! Now I feel like I need one...
Seen one today, definitely caught my eyes even around some many exotic, Miami FL. I definitely like the look, why I came here today
Great presentation wow what a price big thumbs up from Australia 🇦🇺
I came in hating the 3-wheeled design, but I gotta say, after watching this video, this vehicle and its production company are quite impressive
indeed I'm shocked at the quality and price
Same here, because of Can-Am's not motorcycle-not car designs, but this one certainly is cool
The President did away with hundreds or thousands of regulations so is this the beginning of whats coming? Exciting. In 70/71 I had 2 businesses and a engineering job alot going on in those days, pre regulations and now they are gone again.
I love love this thing. It's worth every penny. I sincerely wish them the best and I hope it does very good for them.
You've done a man's job, sir. Congratulations. Because from such nice design concept we all can learn.
I really like my Slingshot but this Vanderhall is awesome too. I like how well thought out some of the features are and that they offer automatic, I think both companies should offer both options to ensure preferences can be had. I have friends with Slingshots, some others are now looking at the Vanderhalls too... the more the merrier as competition gives us consumers more options and usually keeps the pricing comparable as well. I hope all of these brands do well. I'm a long time motorcycle rider, have had over 60 bikes and still have 4, I used to work for Honda and wasn't really interested in any of these until I took one test ride... if you haven't done that you really cannot truly conceptualize it. Comparing them to cars or bikes is silly, the new category should just be called fun-cycle as they are a blast and then maybe the sensitive people wouldn't get all offended over a name or classification or maybe it's just the price. For the more experienced and open minded people the closest thing to compare it to I have driven was a Lotus Caterham I raced in AutoX and many know how fun those are. Ride safe and have fun everyone!
I was curious as to how those two were going to fit in that thing. Steve Hall is a big boy. But $30k for made in the USA wind in your hair driving is a good thing. The Engine/Transaxle are GM, so it's a high mile package that should be able to be repaired at any GM repair shop. The cost of ownership should be low as well.
I'm not a three wheeled guy myself, but that's certainly the nicest looking one I've seen.
I drove this at aimexpo 2018 las vegas. What an amazing car. Abosoulty a blast to drive. Kudos to these guys to bring something different to the market at an approachable price.
Jay has the best job ever.
I've seen these being made. It's cool to see them getting some good publicity!
Beautiful design and a blast to drive!
Very nice. The Dutchmen are tall. My grandmother was 5' -10". Great work, congratulations. I would have guessed $40,000. $30,000 is a steal. With that price the company should be around for years.
Nice little hot rod , looks like a sprint car coming head on at you. That's a wicked painting in the background too. Thanks Jay.
What a spiffy fun little vehicle that is. Kudos to Mr. Hall and his great group of people he surrounds himself with. Hope your expansion goes well as do the product sales.
Anyone watching, if you haven't tried driving a Vanderhall, you gotta try it! There truly is nothing like it on the road.
That's not true at all. There are plenty of vehicles for a cheaper price with similar styling and better power. AND THEY ARENT FRONT WHEEL DRIVE
@@savagetuner2404 what are they?
@@Blindguardianfan1998 can am Spyder and ryker, T-Rex, Morgan 3 wheeler, Polaris slingshot, etc
I love the styling of this autocycle. The company should be very proud of their accomplishment. Nice sounding exhaust as well. Looking at these 2 guys in the seats I would venture a guess that you would not be comfortable with 2 large people in this car for long trips! They are shoulder to shoulder cozy!
13:46 The look on Jay's face " This much fun must be illegal, Mr. Hall tricked me into this. Where did I put my lawyer phone number ? "
A buddy of mine has one, its so much fun. It's fast, handles great, and turns heads everywhere.
I had a chance to drive it for a week, it is a blast!
This thing is really freaking smart. And the price is realistic. I think I want one...
Well done, very impressive and a product to be proud of. I wish you every success.
Pretty cool and really fun to drive.
This can be another American classic ! Congratulations!
Jay....just smashing the gas at every opportunity. *LOVE* this guy. And, I love this vehicle.
That's a nice package, reminds me of the Lotus 7. Just what everyone needs to rip around in!
I bet Jay buys one.
Smart build with mostly automotive components = cheaper prices and availability.
This will succeed, no doubt...
have I missed it. Jay has reviewed every Autocycle i can think of but i can't recall him doing the Slingshot yet?
this little autocycle looks cool! the reflector bit is clever!
Got to drive one of these for a few minutes. Love the vintage look and feel. Handles great and feels like your driving an old roadster.
Harley made something like that years ago called the Tri Hawk (have no idea if that is spelled correctly).
Know nothing about it, just saw it in the garage where I worked years ago. Maybe they have one in the Harley museum here in Milwaukee.
This Vanderhall looks really cool, be great to drive along the coast or through the mountains. Don't think I would buy one, ( due to the money I have available for something like this) but I'd definitely rent one while on vacation.
Great job, can't imagine the amount of engineering let alone the trial and error that went into this.
Can't see any room for negative comments here!
Sadly, HD acquired the TriHawk 304 ending its short production run of less than 100 units and then quietly euthanized it in what was apparently an intentional silencing of the competition. Another promising idea killed by greed.
A Cobra experience that's affordable.
Funny you say that, just found out a friend bought one of these back in the spring and met him when I spotted his Coyote motored Cobra replica in front of his store and went to check the place out!
Sweet ride and looks like a ton of fun to drive!
Owner: it comes in 3 colours.
Names 4 colours
In Steve's defense had just released the fourth color. :)
Vanderhall Motor Works "fourth".
Big Ooof ahahaha!
You might be a little nervous also when JLG can make you or break your small company just as easily. Seems like a very honest guy. To his credit, Jays asks if he A arms are of their own design and Mr. Hall says they are made for us and are very similar to a GM design. He could just said YES and been correct enough for most peoples standard.
Caught that.
Just very cool in every regard. Looks, performance, and price! Thanks gentlmen! 👍✌
Jay is a legend. A true American hero.
I drive a Triumph Rocket III Roadster and totally get this vehicle. I want one.
I had a 2006 Rocket and I always wondered what that motor would be like in a little car! I sold it and bought a Miata (for now) but this would be a fun combination of bike and car!
Despite whatever longevity it may or may not have, that thing would be fun to drive
I saw them at the Chicago Auto Show - Attractive and seem fun to drive. As a motorcyclist, I dig it.
Fantastic car, fantastic price, fantastic looks, you guys are great. Congratulations
Great engineering! I have wondered for a long time why someone don't just use alot of standard components and try and build something affordabble but light and fun. Here is the answer that it can be done.
if it can make everyone's hair look as good as Jays did after that ride. it's well worth 29k!
#RickFlair #whoooo!
0-60 dropped to 8.2 with those boys in it!
I was skeptical of this until I heard the price. $29,950. That's pretty damned cheap for how much fun you're getting, and being FWD, in the rain it's not going to scare drivers with less skill like other 3-wheel packages would. My biggest caveat would be the automatic transmission. It may have a bump shifter, but let's not kid ourselves, rowing gears is a big part of the fun, and if you're going to make it front wheel drive, at least give us SOMETHING to do in the cockpit. Overall, pretty unique, more practical than similar platforms, and affordable. Pretty good stuff!
Rowing gears is no fun in city or stop-and-go traffic. Try a sequential shifter and you won't go back. People said they would miss kick-starting motorcycles, too (they don't).
JAMES HAY I'm one of those weirdos that likes shifting in traffic. Gives me something to do. Especially if you have an engine making good torque and you can just leave it in 2nd and work the clutch. Sequential would be great in this, I may be wrong but I doubt GM has a sequential that mates to the 1.4. But I fully agree with kick starting bikes, give me an electric start any day.
An automotive sequential transmission generally runs $9-12K by itself. Yes, in volume it would be much cheaper - but, that is the chicken and egg problem again.
I hear you James, but that's not really the purpose behind a machine meant for open road exploration. This is a torque converter based automatic.... the shifts are slow and lethargic. Even the bump shifter won't help. Unless Vanderhall chooses a different drivetrain, it's the slushbox or potential clutch-based manual. GM actually makes a manual shift transmission for this engine, so it would be interesting to see if one could be installed.
Yea this isn't a traffic car. I'm amazed no manual.
I'm a vanderhall salesman in la and they are a blast to drive
Honest American businessman not trying to rip you off or B/S you about the exclusivity/price ratio. RESPECT.
best 3-wheeler ever... i can't say those roll bars will prevent you from being scalped.
Seems like it handles almost as well as an exotic sports car. And made in U.S.A.
LOVE the Vanderhall. I've driven one myself and felt like a million bucks in it! Guys, get your girl off the backseat of your motorcycle and get one of these so she can enjoy the ride too!!
this is your best introduction ...... best work
Looks quite muscular , yet smooth and sporty.
For sure, very well put together.
Congratulations,
Looks like a pretty sweet ride. Maybe after my Honda Civic gives up the ghost...
I favor the "Morgan" but, for the price, style and the level of fun this motorcycle seems to be, I'd buy a "Vanderhall" instead. Great video Mr. Leno, I will keep this one in my records in the event that i might buy one of these, it looks like a great vehicle with a nice 'vintage like" design. ( ^_^. )
As soon as Matchbox can make you one.
I agree totally I think this is what people who cant afford a morgan will get I am impressed
Never fails. No matter what Jay drives he can’t keep it within the lines. 😭
I test rode these at the sturgis motorcycle rally in 2019 and these are really fun. they ride smooth, handle beautifully and perform at very high levels. they are competitively priced compared to the harley or aftermarket trikes, polaris slighshot and the upper end can ams spyders. a little short on storage...........but they are very unique and fun.
What I really like about this (and similar examples) is how it pushes existing design and engineering into new formats.
The price is mind blowing. Way cheaper than a fully loaded Harley touring bike.
Yeah but its not really a motorbike, is it. Certainly well done though.
I would say it is somewhere in the middle of carmotorcycle. Lotsa old bikers buy those trikes, and Can-Am products because they are stable but still give a thrill. For same price? Could carve off some of the HD touring market? But fat wives and fat HD riders would struggle to fit.....
Looks really cool but seeing them both in there looks uncomfortable. Maybe come out with an XL model and add some width
Agreed seeing Jay and that shaky salesperson stuffed in that thing was enough for me to pass on it.
Fat husbands and Fat wives can still ride their Harley!
WhiteTrashSTL or lose some lbs
@@ShadowbannedbyRUclips That would definitely be the cheaper (and healthier) alternative. LOL
I like toys like this. Small enough to keep in the corner of the garage to play with when you want. $29k seems very reasonable.
Took one for a Test Drive.
It was So Awesome!!
The price just floored me. That is a great looking vehicle.
