    I have done this repair on my 2013 Hatchnack Tutanium X..
    Where is an inspection panel on the right hand side rear of the boot where the camera module is clearly visible and there is a fault which I believe attaches the light assembly to the car about 10 inches away from the module above and to the right.
    Whole job took no more than 15 minutes and that included finding a suitable piece of wire to add the Earth lead fix!
    Thanks for the upload, very useful.

    Good job Steve 👍.. Like you I reckon that camera will be fine now. It was years ago now but when I worked for Ford we were often cleaning ground connections or running new ones on various models, especially pre 2000 or so, as they used to suffer rather badly with grounding issues, especially rear light clusters, and any tailgate electrics etc. They're far better now though however the odd item still crops up it seems.
    Cheers mate
    John

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks John. I suspect the shield for the coax was partially providing the return path, but as the unit vibrates it was making intermittent contact with the chassis. It would only take a 100mV or so to throw off the composite video signal and sync. All of the other devices on the bus are bolted to the chassis, so this seems like a mistake.

    Hi Steve. Many thanks for posting this video. I've had exactly the same experience with the reversing camera on my 2013 Mondeo TX BE Estate. Although it was repaired twice under Ford Warranty, it has recently started flashing again! It is infuriating. Especially, as it is well out of warranty now, and it is the only thing in the car which has given me persistant problems. I'll put a separate earth on the camera control module tomorrow and see if that works for me also!

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  6 лет назад +2

      Let me know how it goes. There is a foam cube that you have to remove from the hole to get to the camera controller. As a test, you could give the box a good wiggle and then firmly wedge the controller with the foam cube so that it makes good contact.

    • @stevegraham6996
      @stevegraham6996 6 лет назад +2

      Hi Steve. I didn't get round to doing the job until yesterday (Friday) morning. The control box on my car is very firmly attached to the mounting plate and I couldn't get it to wiggle. As access is very limited, I didn't want to try to losen, or remove, the box. I fitted an earthing wire exaclty as you did. It has completely cured the problem. The rear view image is perfect now. Its as solid as a rock with no flashing or breaking up. The fault has been intermittent on my car, so I'll give it two weeks, and if its remained perfect over that period, I'd say you have definitely got the right solution. I'll get back to you then to confirm the position. Many thanks for solving the problem and sharing it on RUclips.

    this is awesome. thank you so much for this. i have seen the same problem with 2011 SMax. this is so helpful!
    You haven’t come across a problem with touch screen not working on those NAV units by any chance? I think they are called Ford HS RNS made by Blaupunkt. My touch screen stopped responding to touched after I had a service done where cabin filters were changed. I suspect the garage accidentally impacted some wiring by the passenger side cabin fuse box but I can’t prove it, just the timing of the touchscreen issue coincided with the service. Happy to share more details if you would be interested! thank you again.

    Hi I have this problem. I have changed the camera and full wiring harness and also connected an earth cable from one of the screws on the control box to one of the rear light bolts but I'm still having problems. The camera still flickers and sometimes doesn't even come on at all, can you help with anymore advice please

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  3 года назад +1

      The flickering is due to a loose connection somewhere. Check the connection to the car wiring loom on the control box and possibly even at the head unit

    Fantastic video mate. Just bought a 2013 x model and was told when buying that the cam was not working so wasn’t too fussed. Main drama is the parking sensors are not working either which I could really do with! I take it these systems are linked?

    Hi
    You seem to be the right guy to ask. I have the same car / camera and have already been to the dealers for a new camera due to this exact issue, apperently they have updated the cable loom to prevent the cause which they believe to be moisture in the connection. The camera is working ok. And now to my question all other fords have awsome quality reversimg camera incl beautyful nightvision. Would it be possible to fit a better camera to the loom / box i know many many people would be extremly glad, i have asked this in manu groups. Specially the nightvision is crap.

    Cheers mate, we have same issue on the ford galaxy, but the canbus thing you mentioned does appear to be in the boot area? Any idea where it is on the galaxy 2012

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  3 года назад

      As far as I know it's in a similar location for the Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy. See if you can see what direction the wiring loom heads in by looking above the head lining.

      I fiinally got myself to fix my camera last saturday after watching this video.
      I have a 2012 Galaxy myself and my camera hasnt been working properly for at least 2 years. Just every now and then whenever it felt like it. When weather was dry i had no picture at all but in moist weather i had this green/red flickering on the screen. Pretty annoying when reversing the car in the dark as the flashing screen blinds you.
      The unit is located in the right side of the 2012 Galaxy, just over the wheel arc, its fastened with velcro to the body and nothing more.
      There is no need to look for it as this is not the issue with your camera. As i said, its velcroed and wont touch the body of the car itself at all. This means that it doesnt need to be grounded.
      Ofcourse i grounded mine and ofcourse it didnt have any effect.
      The problem is that stupid connector in the back/rear door. Yank off all the plastic and you will find it on the right inside of the door. Connector is zip tied to a plastic thing that is fastened to the door with a metal clip.
      I cleaned that connector and sprayed it 2.5 years ago but i guess the pinholes in the connector is to wide for the pins and there is no contact. It worked for about 2 months, might be because of the spray, and then it died on me again.
      All cables are colored different but there is no rhyme or reason to them, pink to green, black to blue, brown to yellow and so on.
      I cut the wires on each side of the connector one by one and used a 3m Scotchlok UY2 connector to connect them back together. (Im not sure if they are on the market anymore but you can use something simmilar, i had them so i used them)
      Voila, good as new and now works like a charm.

    @SDG Electronics, great video. Do you know if there's an adapter for the camera module to allow a regular composite (yellow phono) input? I'm trying to figure out how to add another video source via the camera input as there's no other way. Like a splitter or something. I have this exact head unit with reversing camera in a 2011 S-Max.

    Hello @SDG Electronics,
    I'm from Germany, please excuse my English and that I did not understand everything in the video. We have the same problem in our Ford Galaxy 2011. We found that the camera does not work when the car is still cold. When it's warm, it works perfectly. How does this relate to the neutral conductor/ground cable?
    Best wishes

    Module probably also uses the screen of the coax for ground, so if that is also intermittent it will cause the same thing. Lucas electrics on Ford strikes again.

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  6 лет назад +1

      Possibly. I didn't measure it, but I suspect it passes through some filtering that presents some impedance rather than a direct connection to chassis ground.

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  6 лет назад +1

      After thinking about it further, the coax probably was providing a ground connection, but the intermittent connection to the chassis has a lower impedance path once connected. It'd only take 50-100mV of bounce to throw off the composite video signal.
