  • On September 5, the Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) hosted a webinar and discussion on the migration landscape in the United States, with particular focus on changes in recent years. A panel of experts addressed migration from select sociological, demographic, resettlement, legal and policy perspectives. They spoke to the (root) causes of migration, the issues and opportunities raised by border narratives and politics, the successes and challenges of refugee protection and resettlement, recent demographic changes and trends in migration, and the legal and policy realities, shortcomings, and potential, constructive ways forward.
This webinar is meant for all audiences and, also, in preparation for the September 12, 2024, Immigrant Integration Convening at St. John’s University.
    Speakers included:
Muzaffar Chishti, Senior Fellow & Director of the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) office at New York University School of Law
David Cronin, Senior Policy and Legislative Specialist, Catholic Relief Services
Mark Hugo Lopez, Director of Race and Ethnicity Research, Pew Research Center
Giulia McPherson, Executive Director, Global Campaign for Education-US
Mario Russell, Executive Director of CMS, moderated the discussion.
