    I like how the 4/4 rythm sounds normal, but when the 3/4 rythm comes in, the 4/4 rythm seems to... slow down, like if the 4/4 was still there, buit it's now playing in reference to the 3/4 rythm, so it sounds slower. but if you focus on it, it's still the same exact velocity as before. cool video :D

      Its because everything is 4/4 in a way, it just depends on tempo

      Bc of the layout being a 2-bar measure, theyre also all at the bottom at the same time too

    If you want to do this in Ableton there's a cool device called Euclidian Sequencer that has this exact UI

    A trick my drumline teacher taught me about finding 120 bpm was to think of the song poker face

    • @anotheryoutubed
      @anotheryoutubed Год назад

      IMO Billie Jean is much easier. You can always hear that grooving bass line and the bun ci ca ci of the drums right away. That's 120 all day.

      or you could just listen to a watch ticking. I mean, why aren't you using a metronome, man?

  • @kamtheman6816

    What's great about the rhythms is you end up reducing it to the greatest common denominator (GCD for those that remember highschool) so the kick and snare, while at 120 bpm, kinda reduce it to only be noticed on the halfway point and the first note, but they're just doing their own thing at 120bpm. Reminds me of when i meet people in the city where while they're overall living fast paced, they've learned to create a paced rhythm
    Edit: even when the high hat comes in, the other two pull the packaging of the rhythm into that same pace
    2nd edit: I wonder if this could apply to our culture as a whole where no matter how fast paced a city gets, the rural culture around it sets the pace. Obviously it isn't applicable to all but it's a fun thought to play with

    I've been jamming 3:4 (and other) polyrythms for atleast 20 years now just for fun. Not even realizing what rythm it is

      it's odd how something kinda complex like this can come naturally to even unexperienced people. I am trying to wrap my head around how to play a 4:5 polyrhythm with both my hands drumming.

    Hello halftau. I'm gonna learn this. The 4:3 doesn't sound like much. But when 12 comes in, amazing. Ties it all together.

    Somehow starting with the kick made this seem way harder. Once I just listened to the complete rhythm it was way easier and definitely something I’ve played. Cool stuff.
