    I've looked at thousands of cafe racers now, and this is my favorite one. Every detail is absolutely perfectly done, and it looks like a factory bike. Other cafe racers always have a big empty void behind the carburetors. Finally someone recognized that it looks ugly as hell having an empty "void" under the seat. This bike is just spectacular. The colors, the heavy duty chain, the gauges, the seat upholstery, the colors of the engine, and the actual mufflers instead of cheap welded straight pipes. Also, so much for the idea that only frail millenials own cafe racers. This owner, John from Roosters, looks scary as hell.

    That mini-tutorial on the velocity stacks was really interesting and helpful. I’m looking at customizing my 91 CB750 and want to keep it simple. So for now, I’m leaning toward keeping the air box, and this just gives me another reason to do so. Thanks! . . . Oh, and that’s a beautiful bike!

    Possibly one of the most underrated engines ever made, I had one that had 115000 miles on the clock, still ran fine. Roller bearing crank, fooking strong engine, the later 425, 450, 500 twins had plain bearings,. Those are yamaha RD250 or XS250 wheels and brakes, not original. Edit, XS250 custom, 16 inch back wheel.

    Two weeks ago, I just bought a 1980 Suzuki GS450S with 2,000 miles for $300.00. It sat in a warehosue since 2004 when it was last registered. There was no spark from one cylinder, Previous owner repclaced one ignition coil, sone park plug , and pulse generator and could not get it started and he parked it since. I diganosed CDI issued and got one used CDI on EBay. Not one trace of rust in gas tank since there was no ethanol ingasoline in 2004. I emoved cabutator and it was cleaned as day 1. The motocycle didd not evn have a chance to get to 3,000 miles for the first oil change recommended by Suzuki, Lucky me. I like carb set up idea, thanks.

    So many of the staff bikes look great, and are clearly what people are interested in. Why is it then that there is almost nothing like any of them from the big manufacturers? We want midsize bikes with a simple style. Instead we get giant displacement engines with plastic and fiberglass for days.

    I put Avon Speedmasters on my supermoped back in 1976. Improved the wet roadholding in particular. The original tyres said "nylon" on the side which didn't inspire confidence!

    • @panamericaco
      @panamericaco Год назад

      They probably were bias plys, nowadays tires are almost always radial ply. Radials have steel cords inside, bias had nylon. You can tell by checking the size, if it says for example 120/80ZR17 it's radial, if it was something like 120/80-17 it's bias

    Great build. Interesting about the carb vacuum - hadn't really thought of that before, thanks. Only part not 100% for me was the seat fit (maybe 97%) - but that's nitpicking a beautiful build and really, just goes to show me as an asshat.

    Great-looking bike. I like those handle bars a lot, what brand/style are they? I tried one of those Biltwell mirrors on my CB750. It looked amazing but it sat too low and rubbed against the top of my clutch hand which I didn't like. I guess I should've tried it on the throttle side of the bars to see if that was better.

    • @roostersclassiccustommotor4048
      @roostersclassiccustommotor4048 4 года назад +1

      Hi Dom, You need to contact DynoJet and get a stage 2 jet kit from them or a bigger main jet by + 1 or +1.5 from stock. then simply build a chamber from the inlet to the filter that is just slightly longer or that bridges both carbs together and the 2 pod filters attach to that chamber. The bigger distance from the carb to the filter the better it will run.

    Brilliant build! That truth spoken, why is the tank’s pinch-weld exposed? Why wasn’t it smoothed out, aligning it with early BSA, Matchless, Triumph tanks? Or more generally speaking, what’s the opinion about leaving exposed pinch-welds on tanks?

    • @roostersclassiccustommotor4048

    • @UncleWally3
      @UncleWally3 4 года назад +1

      Roosters Classic & Custom Motorcycles. I can totally appreciate that choice with the GS400 build, but why many manufacturers mass producing tanks with exposed pinch-welds is baffling. Relative to the gain in aesthetic refinement, economy of scale ought to attend to their costs. I am glad to see Triumph’s new T120 Scramblers with “clean” tanks and a few other manufacturers seem to attend to their classic/retro models with similar detail. Anyway, I really admire the GS400 build and in the future, I’d be interested in hearing more expert opinions on the plight of the pinch-weld! Thanks.
