    The last point is really true. I remember once my freshman year I took my practice horn and wrapped it in electrical tape as a joke. When my teacher made me take it off, I sounded better than I possibly ever had on either of my trumpets. I think that the tape just killed the resonance so much, that I had to play very well to get even average sound. So when the tape came off, playing the horn became effortless for the next little while.
