    Thanks for that info on the Fiat advisory, we have a Burstner panel van on a 9 speed, so we will be getting in touch with Iveco/Fiat in Newcastle to check this out. Glad you’ve got your heating sorted, Rob and Lyn had a fault with their Alde heating and one of their dogs got very poorly, so yet again a very informative video, it’s good to know that there’s someone keeping us up to date.

    Really informative, especially regards the auto gearbox recall. Phew, glad the heating sorted too! We’ve had a couple of Alde issues in the past, fluid leak from a poorly connected pipe & electric heating element fault. Pleased you’ve had great support from a decent dealer.

      I have had 2 caravans and now onto my first motorhome. All these have had blown are heating. When you look at the pipes and the fittings on caravans and motorhomes, they do look flimsy. So I’m not surprised they pop off.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  13 часов назад

      @marcandsebe Thet don't pop off if properly fitted.

    • @marcandsebe
      @marcandsebe 13 часов назад

      @@BobEarnshawMoHo One popped off on my second caravan. I work as a bathroom installer and have used Hep2O pipes and fittings in awkward situations. These are the newer versions. I have known of the older versions popping off though and Hep are more robust than what they use in the leisure industry. You mentioned the clamp on clips they use over the jubilee ones. I had one of those come apart on the water adapter to the Aquaroll tank. They must use a special tool to clamp them up. I tried with some pliers and ended up using a jubilee clip as I could not get it tight enough.

  • @kennethwiggins7385
    @kennethwiggins7385 10 часов назад

    Someone has already mentioned I see on Jubilee clips, but yes, you can overtighten them.
    Glad you got sorted though. Always a nice feeling & a relief to get warranty work done and out the way. You were lucky that no real damage was done.
    We bought our new Chausson March '24, and also have habitation booked in this coming March, like yourselves. We had one fairly big bit of warranty work done in November, which was carried out satisfactorily, and a minor issue also.
    Look forward to seeing your next adventure. We're having short break at Baltic Wharf next month - it is now due to close end of April, but the landowner could require the land before then, apparently. Be sad to see it go 😒

    Those spring type hose clips are used on a lot of cars these days, I had a 2001Toyota Landcruiser and that had the spring type clamp on all the cooling system hoses way back then. I was told they give an even clamp pressure all round the rubber hose, and because of the bead around the end of the pipe stub won't slip off.
    In the photo you showed of your hoses that had fallen off it looked like the clamps were pushed onto the hose ready, but not expanded and moved along to the correct position. Maybe the person fitting the pipe slipped it onto the radiator stub, didn't have the clamp tool to hand, then it was tea break time and forgot to go back and fit the clamp properly. Then eventually over time with a bit of vibration they fell off.
    The proper tool by the way is like a pair of pliers with specially shaped jaws to grip the ends of the clamp. A pair of duck billed pliers will do the job, but have a tendency to slip off.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  3 часа назад

      Yes, it looks like that's what happened. It's a miracle they lasted nine months!

    Thanks for the update Bob. Jubilee clips can be overtightened and may cause leaks. Are you sure Jenny did not pull the pipes off to avoid the negative temperatures? Hope you are both well and warm.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo

      Good point about jubilee clips being overtightened.

    Very useful vid thank you , do find that that bedroom is much warmer than the lounge area by any chance and the room stat makes no sense , seems the alde and Sargent unit run different temp readings all the time

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  13 часов назад

      There is a thermostat switch in the bedroom for that reason. It allows the temperature in the bedroom to control the Alde heating.

    • @moneygoesround
      @moneygoesround 13 часов назад

      Yes thanks found that and tryed it seems to make no difference , have now gone into sub menu and tryed switching it on or of in there made no difference , I have a update on gearbox as it kept dropping out of gear when you stopped but going into fiat again for new wheel and software up date , I did the sat nav update which seems better now , but have invested in avtex 3 as you mentioned seems a good bit of kit , still waiting for tank bracing etc

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  3 часа назад

      There's no change to make in the Alde settings on mine for thermostat because it's not set up as dual zone, that requires two pumps I believe. It's just a switch over to the thermostat in the bedroom. There is a temperature offset in the Alde panel settings that you could try.

  • @derekmcgaw7045
    @derekmcgaw7045 15 часов назад +1

    Bob, they use spring clips rather than Jubilee for cost and speed benefits, but also because they handle the expansion and contraction of hoses under temperature and pressure variation.
    2 other advantages, ham fisted people could overtighten the Jubilee clip, crushing the plastic or alloy spigot underneath, finally, rubber hoses dova thing called compression set, i.e. over time the pressure of the clip pushes the rubber away, making it loose under the clip, and more likely to weep or come off the spigot.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  14 часов назад

      Yes, good points to make, easy to overtightened jubilee clips.

  • @peterkent9745
    @peterkent9745 15 часов назад +3

    Bob
    Spring clips are far better than worm drive clips (jubilee clip) because they maintain a constant clamp to the hose even when the hose ages and shrinks. Jubilee clip tend to leak when hoses age. I suspect the clips were not fitted correctly or the application was not suitable I.e. the pipe / hose had some strain from another source

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  14 часов назад +1

      Yes, that was the problem, they hadn't been fitted correctly and the movement of the pipe underneath the shower caused the pipes to come off.

    • @darrensquire5615
      @darrensquire5615 14 часов назад

      Absolutely correct the hoses can move with the heat of the fluid going up and down in temp.

    Mine had the software update update done to the gearbox . Couple of weeks later , warning lights again . Gearbox was changed . Swift have now authorised Salop to completely remove the habitation door frame, door, inner step and refit the lot to try and cure to leaking door . Being done next Friday 27th Jan

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo

      @EddieHulme Час назад

      @ according to Fiat Professional last year when mine initially had the warning lights problem on the motorway it was a known issue . They had an advisory from Fiat to upgrade the software when vans had the problem . My gearbox was fully tested after the software upgrade . It passed all tests. Lots of people mentioning the issue on Fiat van forums . Lots of speculation that incorrect level of fluid put in gearbox in factory that caused damage through overheating to the torque converter. Only drove the van a few times after upgrade and the engine light plus the red gearbox light illuminated . Drove it straight back to Fiat where it stayed for repair. I had to wait 2 months nearly for new gearbox from Germany . Two other vans in Fiat waiting for same when mine was being done .

      Forgot to say . I am so glad I took out the extended warranty from Fiat within 14 days of buying the motorhome . I have piece of mind that I have 5 years of cover from Fiat professional . Swift by the way didn’t tell me about the 14 days rule . I read it in the Fiat manual .

    Thanks Bob, great information again and thanks to the people you mentioned, our van is with the dealer currently so will be in contact with the first thing Monday to have the Alde pipe connections checked and the shower one in particular. I agree having an annual service carried out by a Fiat dealer is best to ensure warranty, I am also having the Al-ko chassis service done as well as required and stated in the Al-ko Manual as required for warranty that you get with the vehicle. Will also book in for the update to the auto box. I have a question with regards the heating i hoe you can help with, at the moment when i turn on the heating with the Swift command it doesn't turn on the Alde heating header unit next to it but i am sure it did when we first got the MH!! Does yours do the same or do you have to switch on separately? Also if I adjust the temp via the Adle header unit it does update the Swift Command header but not the other way round and I am sure it did before. I have had to reset the heating after it failed and required a reset a while ago and was wondering if this is the problem or is it just me being silly !! sorry for long message

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  16 часов назад

      Thi mnk of the Swift Command panel as being in control, not the other way around. Sometimes you need to switch off at the Sargent Power Supply and switch back on again to reset things. I did a video on the new Swift Command panel. Have you watched that? ruclips.net/video/1Cn3MhxRnB0/видео.htmlsi=e8rWn0TGhZT4xL-U

      @BobEarnshawMoHo  15 часов назад +1

      I feel there is a video in this somewhere, but the Swift Command can only update the Alde system if it has an update or some instructions to give it, such as the time is... or switch the heating on... I have found even just changing the time on the Swift Command panel gets the two communicating.
