The Blood God was in fact originally conceived as a large bloody being brought to life by the ritual, but test audiences lost interest in this CGI monster, and felt cheated that Frost had been pushed aside, after all the build up between him and Blade. So, exit the big blood creature planned for the finale, and enter Frost, for that final duel. This would perhaps explain why Frost, as weird “blood god substitute”, is not totally impressive or particularly powerful: conceived of in haste, and filmed at the last minute. The film rights to Spider-Man were tied up in the courts, and Marvel Comics was in financial trouble (bankruptcy looming, and the “saviour” of the company wanting to buy it and break it up into pieces that could never connect again)…and suddenly there was a Blade movie that helped secure a better future for all things Marvel. Snipes had decided to be Blade, after he reluctantly passed on a Black Panther project that was potentially going to be too ambitious in terms of budget and design. This has also worked out okay, in the end. Blade was one of my favourite supporting characters in Marvel Comics, when I was much younger - created by two of my favourite Comics talents, the writer and the artist - and suddenly he was first out of the gate, at the movies. It was an amazing turn of events, and weird to see a niche character jump start everything, at least on the Marvel side.
Since this film came out, "Daywalker" has become the official term for any Vampire that can move in sunlight without any ill effects. In many of the original myths, such as Bram Stoker's Dracula, Vampires CAN move in sunlight without being physically harmed (i.e. bursting into flames), but most of their powers went into a dormant state while doing so. Edit: Also, in Vampire lore, the official term for a Vampire/Human hybrid is a "Dhampir".

The music track on Blade 1 and 2 are amazing. The first movie that made me love techno and progressive trance. That's 90% of the music I listen to everyday. I watched this movie like 20 some times(Superman the movie I saw 50 some times favorite movie of all time). I watched Blade 20 some times because of the techno music in the club when it first starts. You should look into the sound track.
The one-two punch of Blade in 1998 and The Matrix in 1999, the start of a new breed of action cinema. Throw in David Fincher going crazy with Fight Club also in 1999... what a great time that was. Really looking forward to your reaction to Blade 2 from Guillermo del Toro.
Blade has been cast for MCU (Mahershala Ali) and made a voice cameo in Eternals and rumored to be appearing in one of upcoming Disney+ shows and a film later.
Quinn (Mr. Crispy) was played by Donal Logue, one of my faves. He's been around since the early 90's, usually as a character actor, doing a wonderful job in whatever he's in. He had a brief role in the recent Stumptown series, which was canceled too soon, and starred in the great series Terriers, which was canceled WAY too soon.
While this is definitely the 1st modern Marvel movie, I contend that this is the 1st true modern comic book movie. Everyone thinks Spider-Man or X-Men, but no, Blade was the 1st one to really treat the "super hero" stuff with reverence and made it feel like it was set in the real world, and didn't feel the need to play friendly so kids could get involved. Spawn almost had it, but Blade nailed it.
Ha! I was about to say the same thing til I got to the end of your comment. I don’t own (and haven’t hardly watched…just Iron Man) any modern MCU or DC movies, but I own the Blade trilogy and Spawn. I like the Spawn animated series on MTV better, though.
I am so glad you watched this film! I saw it nine times in the theater when it was first released. That opening fight scene is worth the price of admission alone. That moment when the female vampire asks if it's Deacon and he replies, "Not anymore..." still gives me the chills to this day. I think Blade II is just as good if not better. The third movie is a humongous letdown. There was a lot of onset drama and it shows in the movie.
Regarding disappointment with the Blood God. Originally Frost turned into basically a giant late 90s CGI Blood monster, with a sort of blood tornado effect. Also some sort of wave of vampirism coming from him. Died the same basic way though, from the blue vampire exploding liquid. Test audience HATED it, so the Frost just getting super powers was filmed. Also some of the lines between Frost and Karen had to dubbed over.
Quentin Tarantino once said, that he made Django so that black teens could have a hero that can encourage them. but I think Blade was the first. he was mine, and I'm the furthest of a Black kid in USA can be.
Was an amazing film seeing it in the cinema on its release. Good times. Also one of first DVDs i bought....£30 and didnt have a DVD player as they cost over £1000 at the time. Watched on my pentium 3 PC as most cost effective. You need to watch the 2nd!
Great reaction Brandon! 90s techno vampires are so much fun. The 2nd one is great too, Guillermo Del Toro did an amazing job on the vampires. Speaking of him, hopefully you can react to Hellboy I (2004) and II (2008) one day, they're beautiful movies.
Re: The let down of the blood god - check out the alternate ending on RUclips - is much more in line with what they were building up to - I personally prefer the original ending that was replaced/reshot, due to test audiences wanting more Frost rather than seeing his logical transformation into La Magra.
This movie and Spawn to this day are still in my top fav comic movies since I grew up with them. Would love to see a new Spawn finally hit the screen, I know Todd Mcfarlane has been working on a script for years. A new Blade is already in the works with Mahershala Ali I believe.
Snipes as Blade is one of those rare occasions of perfect casting. Like Arnold as Terminator or Stallone as Rocky or RDJ as Tony Stark, tough to even imagine anyone else in those roles afterwards.
Man, my best friends birthday party went to see this. I had no idea what it was. We were like 7 or 8ish. I had never seen so much blood in my life. It was something to behold. Truly...
Donal Logue has to be one of my top 3 underrated famous actors of all time, I loved him in Grounded For Life as Sean Finnerty and in Gotham as detective Harvey Bullock.
32:54, cliffhanger, but wait.... BLADE 2 is coming! Lol! That was one way to end the movie like that. The first time I saw Blade was on SPIDERMAN The Animated Series, where he teams up with the Web Slinger to find Michael Morbius after he Injects himself with genetically engineered vampire blood. Anyway, thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😉
I know we aren’t supposed to like Blade Trinity but at the time Ryan Reynolds was still fairly new and fresh. So his humor combined with his body made the movie fun and entertaining for me. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The main villain was stupid but Parker Posey was funny.
This movie/trilogy is a classic and leaves a long-lasting legacy and paved the way with many marvels first. Some of it doesn't edge that well, but to paraphrase Honest Trailer. This was the first good/successful marvel franchise, black lead marvel film, R-Rated superhero film, first quippy Ryan Reynalds comic book character, and first to have an even better sequel and end with a horrible (but hilarious) 3rd film. Your reactions are gold.
I loved this movie as a kid. I even had it on vhs. Sadly, you can't make silver bullets, silver cools unevenly and slightly compacts itself. But the slugs would be great in slingshot for battling a creepy clown.
Whistler is played by famous 60's folk singer/writer Kris Kristofferson who wrote songs like "Sunday Morning Coming Down" that Johnny Cash and Ray Stevens performed and "Me and Bobby McGee" that became a hit for Janis Joplin after she died.

Wesley Snipes is so badass in this role. Such a cool character, very nostalgic too for this film. Great reaction!
Blade was just a fun movie period. Which makes it a great movie. Loved this when it came out. Still watch it every now and then.
All these years later, and Blade is STILL one of the greatest comic book movies ever made.
I used to quote this movie so much as a kid. The one liners and their delivery are one of a kind
I spent my teenage years fantasizing about having Deacon Frost's penthouse. Complete with yes that was Traci Lords
When I was a kid I visualized being Deacon Frost himself. Haha.
The actor who plays the leader of the vampire council is Udo Kier who played Dracula in the movie "Blood for Dracula" (aka Andy Warhol's Dracula).
Blade did appear in the 90s Spider-msn animated series. He has crossed paths with Morbuis too. So he has met up with some other Marvel characters.
Man the quality of your videos is absolutely top notch. Much love dawg, keep it up
Quentin Tarantino once said, that he made Django so that black teens could have a hero that can encourage them.
but I think Blade was the first. he was mine, and I'm the furthest of a Black kid in USA can be.
There were other comic heroes too .Skipping the obvious , Deathlok and Spawn come to mind .
The original start of the MCU. Gotta respect Snipes for how much he loved this character, even if he was an ass.
Was an amazing film seeing it in the cinema on its release. Good times. Also one of first DVDs i bought....£30 and didnt have a DVD player as they cost over £1000 at the time. Watched on my pentium 3 PC as most cost effective. You need to watch the 2nd!
The king is back, nice seeing you doing fine
Great reaction Brandon! 90s techno vampires are so much fun. The 2nd one is great too, Guillermo Del Toro did an amazing job on the vampires. Speaking of him, hopefully you can react to Hellboy I (2004) and II (2008) one day, they're beautiful movies.
I heard Mahershala Ali is going to play this superhero in the upcoming MCU movie. Great casting.
"Matrix vibes" this came out before Matrix. Leather Jackets and "bullet time "
Snipes as Blade is just... perfection. I love all 3 of the movies.
For some cool vampire stuff, you should watch the "Underworld" series.
Re: The let down of the blood god - check out the alternate ending on RUclips - is much more in line with what they were building up to - I personally prefer the original ending that was replaced/reshot, due to test audiences wanting more Frost rather than seeing his logical transformation into La Magra.
My favorite marvel movie growing up. The very first one to start my journey in marvel movies. Just hoping the new blade isn't gonna flop
I believe that Blade's first comic appearance was in Marvel's Tomb of Dracula and then he made an early appearance in Marvel Preview .
Right you are.
The Comics book adaptation that saved the Comics book movie adaptations from falling into oblivion.
Glad to see you back 😁 the second one is even better
Until seeing this I never realized how much the matrix has a lot of vibes similar this movie on look and tone which came out a year before the Matrix
This movie and Spawn to this day are still in my top fav comic movies since I grew up with them. Would love to see a new Spawn finally hit the screen, I know Todd Mcfarlane has been working on a script for years. A new Blade is already in the works with Mahershala Ali I believe.
I love how blade never got blood on him but his own in such a bloodbath of a movie.
Weslep snipes hits the best comic book poses.
Every time that I see the beginning of this movie, I'm always reminded of how awesome raves were.
Welcome back! I was wondering about you earlier.
Glad you are well.
Snipes as Blade is one of those rare occasions of perfect casting. Like Arnold as Terminator or Stallone as Rocky or RDJ as Tony Stark, tough to even imagine anyone else in those roles afterwards.
Hope everyone’s having a great weekend! Stay safe and have fun!🤙
“They own the police”
“Oh that’s why they’re always shooting at him”
And here I thought it was because he’s black
Man, my best friends birthday party went to see this. I had no idea what it was. We were like 7 or 8ish. I had never seen so much blood in my life. It was something to behold. Truly...
Damn...back when DVDs started replacing VHS, this was one of the first ones I watched on the format. This and Holy Grail lol.
Thanks Brandon! I like how you Add a very different Reaction to the Films. With your educated outlooks and commentary. 🤘👽
Thank you so much for reacting to this movie! One of my favorite marvel films.
Donal Logue has to be one of my top 3 underrated famous actors of all time, I loved him in Grounded For Life as Sean Finnerty and in Gotham as detective Harvey Bullock.
YES DUDE. Good choice man. Also I love your channel been watching for a long time keep it up man.
So glad they had the drains. I love the fact that he really can kill them all
32:54, cliffhanger, but wait.... Stay safe.😉
Miss Wesley Snipes as Blade
I loved this movie, & I'm looking forward to your reaction to Blade 2 which I also really loved
But the slugs would be great in slingshot for battling a creepy clown.
felt like I havnt seen you for a while brandon! good to see you again
Blade 2 is one of my favorite movies.
Spawn is one of my favorites. If you haven't seen it already, definitely check it out...
Whistler is played by famous 60's folk singer/writer Kris Kristofferson who wrote songs like "Sunday Morning Coming Down" that Johnny Cash and Ray Stevens performed and "Me and Bobby McGee" that became a hit for Janis Joplin after she died.
This movie is the reason confusion pump panel remix has been in my playlist for the past 12 years
Earned a sub from this reaction... blade I watched with my grandad. I was way to young to watch this movie. But he eat eat and he past away not long after.
You felt the movie, described the movie and enjoyed the movie. Keep up the reactions man
