Yeup exactly. The beauty of the full version is the build up and man it's out of this world. 7 minutes never went by so fast... it's such a beautiful song, from the musicality, the groove, arrangement and of the amazing falsetto of Bobby Debarge ❤
So much better. Hearing that edited version actually feels like a crime done to the song 😂. Guess if you never heard the original it would still sound good but growing up on the song, that version is a no for sure.
i didn't even know there were other versions, i've only ever heard the 12". i love the intro lol, i randomly yell "i'm a man now baby, a grown man!" all the time lmao.
The one down in the middle with the mustache and the one up top ono the right (Bobby & Tommy) are brothers and the brothers of the Debarge family! Beautiful music!!
This was my Jam! growin up...I didn't know how much I liked Switch, I always thought it was Cameo...but I heard their album the other day and I knew almost every song by heart and I hadn't listened to them since I was a child...It brought me back! I love this group...I let their songs go by the wayside for so long...I'm so happy I rediscovered them!
Thank you for reading the comments and reacting to this. The one you listened to first was chopped up and very badly edited. I remember when this song dropped. Bobby and Tommy DeBarge left to put out their younger siblings to form the group DeBarge with the younger brother El at lead. Phil Ingram is the younger brother of James Ingram (the second singer in Quincy Jones's" Secret Garden" song) Tommy and El sound so much alike that they are damn near interchangeable vocally. Switch was an offshoot of Barry White's orchestra. P.S. Richboy sampled this for "Throw Some D's On It"
I looked at the time counter for that first reaction....I was like...nope. I already knew...LOL. There are so many jewels in the 12-inch versions of songs from this time period....like this song, Cameo's "Why Have I Lost You", SOS Band "Just Be Good To Me", Prince's "1999", "When Doves Cry", and "Erotic City"....etc ...but this song here? Whoever edited the shorter version botched it within an inch of its life, and took out the heart of the song in the process. Thank you for reviewing the REAL version of this song....we appreciate that.
Everyone knows that's Bobby Debarge doing the lead vocals. now, doing the background vocals is a young TEEN at the time. El Debarge. Bobby brought in El to do those background parts. Man, this is a R&B CLASSIC!!!
This is the Classic version. It's not just the intro missing, from 6:00 - 7:15 it's a totally different song, your reaction to the first version was good, but I think that if U reacted to this version first U would have appreciated the vocals more? Peace!
Such an amazing group. How about checking out an all-female band? Klymaxx was an all-female band (played their own instruments) that was big in the 80s. I Miss You is a ballad and some of their faster hits are “The Men All Pause” and “Meeting In The Ladies Room.”
Got damn you circled the block QUICK!!😂😂Yeah, we laid down discontent for that edited version real heavy🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️😭😭 Not a great quality change but major sequences missing from the edit and it doesn’t flow the same.
Bobby and tommy are the two older brothers of the younger debarge family. One died from aids. All those debarge brothers have that gift of being able to use that high register octave. Incredible 🔥🔥
MOTHER POPCORN... requested it..... The shorter version was probably the radio version. That was the norm back in the day..... NJ & NY Radio hardly ever played the extended version of any songs....
The family was really religious, and this was originally written as a gospel song then changed to a love song when the writer decided to do secular music
Bruh JJ, I will let you in on a gemhat nobody has covered yet ....try 'O.bryan' w/ 'lady I love you" , "Stillwater", 'you're always on my mind' and "go on and cry", if you like Switch's music!
The Jackson 5 were never trying to be the Osmonds. The Osmonds came out with One Bad Apple after the J5 already had several hits under their belt. They already had ABC, I Want You Back, and Stop The Love You Save, before the Osmonds 1 bad apple.
@@MightMouse2174: I’ve never heard anything about El being part of Switch lol. His brothers Bobby and Tommy were in the group; they eventually left Switch to help El and the rest of their younger siblings form DeBarge. 🙂✌🏾
Well that edited version was a version I'd never seen before. I've heard the edited version for radio many many times. I think I may have actually had it at one time. It wasn't cut anything like that version you listened to the first time. I don't know where that came from and who butchered it. 🤦🏿♂️
@@JustJammin, I did. But I meant a REAL comparison. Like listen to them side-by-side. Not just the quality because one could have been remastered. But I mean how the first one was edited.
Bobby DeBarge had one of the greatest voices I’ve ever heard. If only he didn’t turn to drugs. He could’ve been very great for a long time.
Him and El
@@bignadier yea, it's damn near impossible to tell them apart sometimes
@@carladavis1473 yeah , they both sound almost the same
Another underrated group from the 70’s. RIP Bobby DeBarge
Rich Boy's "Throw Some D's" sampled "I Call Your Name" by Switch 👍🏾
Yea this is the one ...a hood ole skool classic
Yeah I liked that sample
???REALLY??? 😹😹😹😹
Oh yeah, I forgot "THROW SOME D's" sample "I Call Your Name"
Bobbie Debarge killed this track. Man this song brings back many great memories for me. RIP Mr. Bobbie Debarge.
"I do, you do, birds and bees do, too. . ."
I always say the intro when I listen to this.
You got to, anything else would be uncivilized!🤷🏾♂️😂😂
The merging of two famous singing families, The Ingram and Debarges. Perfect!!!!!
and Bobby is singing to a member of another famous musical family/Latoya Jackson.
😊👍 Once you know the song by heart, the shortened, chopped up version just sounds weird.
And us old heads definitely know the unedited version by heart😂
💯

A musical genius! Truly unsung!!
Bobby debarge so effortless the greatest singing at the height
I Wanna Be Closer by Switch is nice too!
When they sang this on Soul Train my mama gave me money and told me to get to the record store ASAP😂😂

Thanks for doing the original version on camera!!!
When this first hit the radio everyone was cracking up at the "I'm a man now baby" part
I always used to crack up at that part when my mom played it. It's one of my absolute favorite songs now though

the original version is the long version that was on the album back in the day they had 45's..shortended version or radio versions
Bobby was singing about Latoya Jackson he was dating her when this was recorded
In the unsung version his band mate said he was not it was spiritual about GOD….
@@ladygemini5967 Makes since I always thought the song You and I was about Latoya it made reference to her song nighttime lover

Yeah it's more the arrangement and absence of parts that makes it not as good. But thanks for doing this version young man ✊🏽
Sir the edited version is not the Original. The album version is the definitive played on black radio in the late 70 s
