In this video, I will discuss the differences between the two types of photos that are often uploaded by contributors on the Shutterstock platform, namely commercial photos and editorial photos.
As a contributor at Shutterstock, it is important to understand the differences between these two types of photos so that you can optimize your earning potential and success as a photographer or microstocker.
Commercial Photos:
Commercial photos are the most common type of photos on the Shutterstock platform. These photos are used for commercial purposes such as advertising, promotion, website design, marketing materials and so on. Typically, commercial photographs contain clearly identifiable elements, including a human face and recognizable brand attributes. As a contributor, you must have model permission and place permission (if required) to upload commercial photos.
In commercial photos, you must avoid using well-known brands or logos that can violate copyrights or trademarks. Be sure to consider legal and commercial aspects when taking and uploading commercial photos.
Editorial Photo:
Editorial photos are a type of photo that focuses on documenting events, news, or editorial content. These photos are used by news publishers, magazines, blogs and websites to provide content that supports news stories or editorials. Usually, editorial photos do not require the model's permission because the focus is on the reality and authenticity of the moment.
