It's refreshing to see two recovering addicts be able to tell their story comfortably. My family and my friends tell me "shut up, I don't want to know." I don't have a great support system but I'm 3 years clean in a few weeks Edit: I found some sober friends through an IOP and it's helped tremendously. Thank you so much to everyone who left kind responses. I was expecting a lot of negative ones lol.
Aw mate, receiving that kind of response consistently would be enough to instigate a relapse in most addicts. Sorry you have to even put up with that, but by the same token, even more congratulations for being able to see way past it and stay clean for this length of time. Keep it up, and screw anyone who isn’t willing to listen to and acknowledge the tough parts, only to reap the rewards of being present for the good.

In 1986 I moved to Los Angeles to work for a Coffee House right off of Hollywood Blvd and Cherokee Blvd right across the street from Boardner's Bar. We helped the runaway teens, homeless, and mentally ill. Almost all of the kids male and female became prostitutes. The young men were not gay but to survive the streets they ended up on Santa Monica Blvd selling their young little bodies to men.
Thank you for sharing. I’m glad Novak seems to be doing ok (at least on the surface level) but I’d guess that most people who get caught up in that life are tremendously traumatized by it. It seems that consent gets thrown out the window… I found it interesting how humorous they find all of it. To each their own I guess.

He has an apt in Colorado now with his disabled girlfriend. I am actually waiting for him to call me. They use humor to cope

It's great that he's open about what his experiences were when he was an addict on the streets. I've wanted to read his book for years, and I am glad that I read it when I did (I finished last week, my Christmas present for myself). It was amazing and sad to read about what he did to his loved ones. I was surprised that when it first came out that it was originally published it ended with him off the wagon. I'm glad that he's found sobriety again. I have always been a fan of his since watching Viva la Bam and Bam's Unholy Union.

He watched basketball diaries too many times and got some ideas lol but i can only imagine the terrible things he went through in his addiction. People love to judge people and say how its all in their head and they chose the addiction and its easy for them to say that because they havent gone through something like that before. Its so awesome he overcame his addiction and is doing so good

To anyone struggling, you can do this! Start working out or substitute that urge with something healthy like a walk or a hike.. been clean 6 months with 2 relapses.... its not easy but it does get easier
