Cheers Darenth, I have my 6400 for just over 1 year, primary purpose was for remote ops, works a treat!! I have the Maestro, n works well, but so does the laptop remote, enjioy Daren 73 n gd DX 😂
Great information (and great boots, too! 😄). I currently have a 6700 that works perfectly, and not yet ready to "upgrade" unless I can do a good trade-in deal or sell outright. A used 670 brings $4400 wile a new 8600 is ~$500 more... a bargain of sorts, to be certain.
My first Flex. If it still satisfies you, I would just save the money for any future updates. I don't even use all the slices and just should of gotten a 8400 instead. Thanks for watching, I really like my Flex is far superior than using the Icom IC7610 with the RSBA1 Software which uses a lot of internet bandwidth and buffers at times. 73
@DarrenN4VFR that's awesome..my buddy runs a sun sdr into a merc 3...another great setup.. I need to get a amp for this...I have a amp supply LK550 (3) tube 3-500z amp..one day it will go online..working on my antenna game now.
Welcome to SmartSDR. I have not chosen to move to an 8600 as my 6600 was 7 months old and still had the new car smell when they announced the end of production in May (and they never breathed a word, just took my money and smiled. I expect you to like the Flex 8600 once you have solved the change to SmartSDR exercise.
You'll want to take advantage of the inbuilt GPS functionality on the 8600 so you can take advantage of the inbuilt NTP server, especially if you work digital modes. If you order up a PGXL amp from Flex you won't need the USB "A" to USB "A" cable at all. If you have the full Flex infrastructure the hardware integration is awesome.
My first Flex. Like I mentioned, it's primarily for my Remote HF and it works well. I still will keep my Anan for when I'm local. The Flex transmit signal is clean so I'm not too worried about the pure signal aspects of it, but it would be nice though.
Congrats!!! Looks like an awesome remote operation radio. Love SDR, but on the computer all day so like turning knobs on my free time.
@@ftlaud911 lol, ok gotcha... its a really nice setup for remote, I love it!
Love those shirts🎉
Darren, congratulations on your new Flex 8600 Series Signature Edition! Hope you have lots of fun doing remote as I do with it (: 73, Manny
Hey Manny! I gave you credit towards the end of the video for convincing me to get an iPad Mini. 73
Thank you brother
I like the RS6 Avant in the background.
@@ABCarr56 Thank you much. It's a used RS6 with close to 19k miles. Awesome color and a sleeper.
Congratulations Darren. The new Flex Radio should serve you well for remote operations.
@@billdishong8745 Yeah, and the audio quality is excellent using my iPad Mini.

@@minibikemadman I like the customizability of Thetis along with TCI to interface with my RF2K-S Amplifier. My Flex is my goto Remote HF Rig.

Heyy Capt Dan 👋🏻great to see "toys arriving." "" Thanks for sharing 👍🏽 Cant wait to see a comparison with G2. Take care 🙂 73 🎙 Ira

I really like how easy it is to remote operations. The audio quality is superb!
Looking forward to RX comparison with Anan G2

Yeah, that an advantage to keeping it a Flex Ecosystem. I'll think about it in the future. But for now, I've ordered the USB-A to USB-A FTDI cabling.
Next step is to put this awesome radio, in a quite rural location as a remote shack
When Flex starts answering questions about their products then I will buy some.

I've been doing HF remotes since the early 1980's. I'm very impressed with the Apache Labs ANAN-G2 and it was a lot less than the Flex.
Cool! Planning to get one BUT did they fix and updated the software yet?
@@revadan version 3.8.20 just been released.
hey Capitan! did you give up with the SunSDR2DX for remote HF?
@@CE3FJK Yes, I sold my SUNSDR2 DX awhile ago. I'm now using an Anan 200d in it's place. My Florida station is an Anan G2, Icom IC7610, and Flex 8600.

Good luck with the new radio. Does it have good noise reduction? pure signal? I wonder has TX audio improved? de ON8EI
@@ON8EI No Pure Signal. The TX Audio is superb with my iPad Mini.
You have to turn OFF core isolation for those drivers to load.

I just received an Anan-G2, had it for 4 weeks, nothing but problems, went back in the mail for a refund. Might look into Flex.
Awwww, I'm sorry to hear about the problems with your G2. I like both SDRs. Flex is pretty easy to set up.
Looks nice. I will not buy a Flex as they will never answer my questions.
