The thing I've gathered, as a wasted 29 year old, is that nothing can be worse than base level retail or base level serving. I have a very strong tech sense (building PCs and repairing electronics), and although I'm thankful for the social skills I've developed through low end retail exposure, I'm long overdue for something more fruitful and I can't see how the "not so good" section is remotely close to as bad as the stresses of being a very expendable wage slave to these massive companies despite their "You're all valuable" coercion.

When i was at 7th grade i picked E.I.M. (electrical installation and maintenance) as my specialization and when i was at 11th Grade i picked STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) as my strand and now that im at 1st year college the course i chose is IT cuz if im going to think about the future programming, coding and IT specialist etc; will be a big demand in the near future and if we think in our todays time we are in the technology age and that is why i chose IT (in life there are tons of outcomes, and you will be the one who will chose your own path)

I see a lot more potential in IT, both income and job security (at least due to demand). I'm not really tech-savvy though, which has me a little bit concerned. There are many options in IT, like network, graphic design, software developer, hardware developer(good at AutoCAD), animator(2D or 3D), IT hardware expert, IT support, database developer, database analyst, cyber security, data analyst, can fix computers, frontend, backend or many more! I don’t know much about the IT industry but I do have a tip for you, so many people have told me this. If you are sure of what you want to do in school, you shouldn’t go right away. It will be a waste of your time and money. This is just my tip, maybe take a gap year to really figure it out, get a job and work that year to save money for school or just save up in general. And then go back. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I'm turning 26 in a few months & have a food service degree & only had blue collar jobs & this pandemic isn't cooperating so I want to move up the ladder & should I study another 4-year course on I.T.? Is it worth it juggling studies & work @ the same time to pay for tuition? I think it's doable, any thoughts?

Hey there, I had a buddy I used to work with who went to school out of state and his plan was to work full time and go to school. It ended up not working for him because it was so much for him to handle. What I’d consider if I were you, unless you know you can handle that type of workload both from work and school, maybe consider getting an associates in an IT field. I’ve seen so many RUclips videos of people saying they didn’t even go to school to get certain it jobs. I hope this helps. Good luck friend, don’t give up! I hope you figure it out in the end :)

If you are not into technology and dealing with constant electronic devices and spending long hours communicating an programming and solving issues while having your eyes locked on the screen, then do not risk it and enter the IT major. Also, you need to have at least basic maths/algebra to kickstart in this major. So double check whether you really want this major or not, and if you truly want it then you better start working hard on your weak points and study more Maths! Good luck to you.

I would look and engineering schools that offer a concentration in computer science. Many schools that offer Industrial Engineering would be a good bet.

@@syedmusa1397 Don't try to sound wise, salary is definitely important, you can apply for every job of CS with an IT degree as far as I've seen jobs and it's more practical, CS is theoretical while you actually learn things you can use in IT.
