Yes, this man is a professional career Machinist / Welder, who knows what he is doing, unlike another RUclips creator with the same first name! This man has only a few machine tools, but he can machine circles around the other guy who has twice the machinery!
Keith, I really enjoyed watching you turn the Acme threads which I have never done myself, job well done. PS I also love the Rust-oleum smoke gray paint and have been watching you for years.
Great video, The tang set screws on my CK tail stock are 11/16-16 threads. The only thing I could find with that thread are 3/8 flat face male hydraulic fittings. If you drill and tap them and loctite a socket head bolt in you can make farmer set screws. I use a 3mt to 5mt extension and drill some big holes with mine. I have spun the 3mt shank without the set screws, not good. Thanks for your great videos. John J
At 26:15 I would always put a radius in the undercut. It adds so much more strength. ( You could machine an internal chamfer in the nut to compensate for the radius in the undercut).
Struth, that was as boring as watching paint dry. Ohh, wait a minute, we WERE watching paint dry! 😜😂😂😉 Another good video, really enjoying this project & just yanking your chain about paint drying. It actually annoys me when restorers don’t bother to re-paint their projects. 😂😂👍
Pearl is going to work better and be more accurate than new when you are done. Whoever gets this after you are done using it is going to be very lucky!
Keith - I’m “of a certain age” with you. You may need to include the definitions for some of your word play in the video description. Pu-tang, may have gone right over the younger folks head😂
hey fenner !best of the new year to you and yours, sorry i been absent can i request more title info than date and peal ? perhaps date paint prep pearl as it helps to make the decision to watch or not easier. thanks as always for the videos
I had the impression that 12L14, while very machinable, wasn't a very good alloy for wear items like shafts and lead screws. Was I wrong? I also wondered why you wouldn't measure your Acme tap for dimensions instead of the old worn out shaft. Even if it was a brand new shaft, I would still think that matching it to the dimensions of the tap would be preferred in case there were any tolerance deviations that showed up during manufacturing of the tap. I'm just a home gamer so comparibly I don't know anything lol. BTW we were vacationing up at the cape last fall and was tempted to stop through to say hi, but kinda figured it would be annoying for someone to stop through unannounced, but it would've been cool to see the shop in person.
A lot of machine parts are made from leaded stocks and lead screws and plenty of wear parts are made from them. I was measuring on the best of the old screw because of the least of wear for general measures. The ACME tap is made to give the need pitch line the most focus and the crown and root of the tap are sligthly differenton how the calipers reach in and give the same looked for differences. all of the general measuring no matter what you happen to use is leading up only to the final gaging of how your two parts match and feel that makes you satisfied.
Nice job Keith, thanks for sharing your progress. I'm curious... Is your feed engagement lever on that Clausing on the left side of the carriage handwheel? It looks like you were engaging it with your left hand.
Enjoy your videos and attention to detail. It all stems from loving what you do. Great content.
Enjoyed my morning coffee with you, great discussion/mentoring…HNY
I’m all about attention to detail! I like your style!
that new chuck looks great on the big lathe.
Its always nice to watch and listen to someone who knows what they are talking about and what they are doing. Happy New Year.

I mean, the first channel I became a regular viewer of and the one that’s cost me the most money!
Now I need to move house!
Keith is a living legend!
Same here 😀
Yeah, we are looking for a smaller house, with a bigger workshop. I want the room for a nice old toolroom DSG 17T.
Happy New Year Keith 🎉 lots of love to you and yours buddy
Happy New Years, thanks for sharing I can’t wait!

I like the idea of the compound at 90 degrees. It gives you that little bit of adjustability that you need. Good work.
Happy new year Kieth and Lisa, nice job on the acme nut and leadscrew, best wishe's to you both. Stuart Uk.

Enjoyed a lot. Happy New Year!
Wow! I thought I knew something about threading. Good one Keith,
Happy new year !!
Interesting approach to single pointing an acme thread.
That's the way it's done!
I use the same paint. Good stuff. I add a little hardener to the paint but maybe the japan drier is better?
Poo on the Tang screws. LOL!
Great stuff, Thanks for sharing…Ric

I wish Happy new year to you and your family . Greetings from Germany.
Olá amigo Keith!!!
Muito bom trabalho!!!
Feliz Ano Novo!!!
Happy New Year to you and yours!
Great job, Happy New Year Keith.
Another good reason to paint Rust Oleum with a brush is that you avoid their CRAPPY new spray nozzles!

I love his different slang words. The best one is “boy butter”.
Pearl is looking hot!
Kieth, You installed the clutch springs on Pearl backwards on a video 2 weeks ago.
No follow rest? Nice job.

Your mic sounded clean is that the one you washed? LOL Thanks for sharing.
Happy New Year Keith! MAGA to you as well.
What kind of camera do you use? You are getting some nice clear footage. 🤔🤔

Yep it is, and the original thread dial was also on the front of carriage
Not Bad 01-04-25 ^^
Keith, what type of paint do you use,as in enamel or?
Rust -O- eum
Why are you cutting both sides of the thread? Cutting only one side is still widening the root is it not?
glossing the threads
👍🇺🇲
merry xmass happy and healthy new year go trump
First!
Keith, Great video! Can you contact Don and ask him to bring back the 🪑 please?
Nice. Ron W4BIN
