Thanks for the vid - I do get the submix concept to allow groups effect implementation. Unfortunately for me it just made things more unclear (it's not the first vid to do so it's probably me as I have a hate relationship with the MPC interface, hardware and software). I don't understand the difference between inserts on programs, submixes, returns and what each of the 4 dials controls on each one (MPC 2.0 software that is). Your vid had you moving the program dials and you said you were controlling the submix. I put a distortion insert on track, program, submix and return level and tried various things. The program controls did not impact the submix or to my evaluation anyhow. On inserting distortion on the program level, the distortion got through despite all 4 levels being turned down ( I assumed this was the level of "send" I wanted to the destination output selected on "output" of the Program. I did the same for submix and the 4 dials under the submix appears to make the distortion louder but reducing all 4 did ont stop the distortion. Then I tried on the return where distortion did not appear to work and there was no 4 dials to control the apparent levels.....man was I confused in the end. Which dials control what and in MPC2.0 software, are "sends" the actual hardware devices (where there is no real physical panel for them, only the returns that are similar to the outputs coming back into the system for external hardware but in this case where I just had my laptop there were no destinations for the "sends"? How are sends linked to returns? Does send 1 always come back on return 1? .
So the 4 knobs is for the 4 return. Not for the submix. The 4 knobs is LABLE 1-2-3-4. That represent the 4 return track. So if you put an DELAY on ( RETURN 1 ) . Then only the knobs that is LABE 1 will affect RETURN ONE. No matter if you are in a program track, Audio track, Submix track, a Pad track. Only the number 1 knob you need to use. Let say you put a reverb on RETURN 2 the you will use knob 2 to get reverb. And knob 1 to get delay. Let me know if this helped you out 👍🏾🙏🏾
They are similar but have different functions. For leveling volume of a group of vst I use submix. For adding effects to multiple vst I use return. But both can do it but that’s my preference it’s more difference but that’s the main idea
Unfortunately you can’t automate the effects that is in the return. You can only effect the knobs that’s und the mixer of the program the knobs that’s labeled 1,2,3,4. Put the effect on the return mixer and set the effect how you want it. Then automate the knob that the effect is on to turn it on or off. Let me know if that helped you out
I guess im not fully understanding submix and return. If i add reverb to my sample i just do it and it works and i leave it be. I dont mess with submix or return. What is the purpose of rerouting it to a submix or a return.
The reason for submix and return is if you have multiple sounds that you want to put a reverb on. You just send them to one reverb on the submix or return. Instead of adding a reverb on each sound
Great video thank you sir. Question 🙋 how do you get your laptop screen to be the same as your pc screen. So for instance if I’m working on a beat and wanted to use my laptop to mix that beat but it’s on my pc screen
+David Hendrickson your laptop screen can get sent to a monitor screen. Not to your computer. you will have to save the file then open it up on your laptop.
1- I use fabfilter pro Q to do the midi side EQ. 2-The MPC beats is the free software. You need the mpc 2 software to get all the track you want . Check their website Akaipro.com . For the price.

Yo doswell bro which one is better to u? Submix or do u use the return ?

Ayo Dos, how would you go about AUTOMATING THE RETURN WETNESS in certain parts of the PROGRAM and/or TRACK.
Unfortunately you can’t automate the effects that is in the return. You can only effect the knobs that’s und the mixer of the program the knobs that’s labeled 1,2,3,4.
