Hi h, If you don't need the extended feature set of the AKU Pro the regular AKU scale might be a better fit: www.wholelattelove.com/products/varia-aku-scale?variant=42828887064630 Marc
@@bhagmeister what @aernimusic is asking is specifically about the auto timer as soon as it detects a weight, not a flow. the thing is there are just a very few scales that do this: auto-tare and auto-timer as soon as a cup is placed on top. My hope is that when you set the delay timer on the setting to "Off" as seen at 5:04 then it will do just that, not having to wait for a flow but just immediately starting the timer with the first weight on it.
They don't clarify it in this video, but based on the manual it seems that the "auto delay timer" setting does what you want. If you set the timer delay to 0 then the auto timer will start after first drop. But if you set it to a value greater than zero, the timer will start after auto tare completes with a small delay in between. So if you set the value to 2 and place your espresso cup on the scale, it will auto tare and then wait 2 seconds before starting the timer.
@@JonatasSantiagotbh even if it didn't have those features, both are gimmicky and entirely unnecessary. I'd much rather have explicit control over when my scale tares. Nothing's more annoying than accidentally taring your scale when you didn't intend to.
@@LimitedWard I beg to differ. Extraction occurs as soon as water hits the coffee puck. I know there are people from coffee world saying that it is just a reference and you don't need to worry if it's after first drop or not. However the drop hits the cup very different from machine to machine, from setting to setting, and you can't pretty much share info on how long your shot is taking to help others with, let's say, similar setup. Reference is good and should be sought after when you are in a community. If one is just doing for itself and don't care about others, fine. But even so, what matters to everyone, regarding extraction time, and independently from setup or setting, is that as soon as the water hits the puck, one should count the timer - if they desire to time the extraction technically properly. Just to make myself clear: all I'm talking about is auto-timer, not taring. Pretty much all coffee scales from the cheapest to the most expensive have auto-tare. But auto-timing to any weight on the scale (not just a liquid flow) I know just a few: Acaia and Felicita. Hopefully this one will have this option, like I said, 'cause I like to time my extractions from water-to-puck not coffee-to-cup,
Please, Varia, update the firmware to add the Acaia's Mode 5: Auto-Tare Auto-Start Timer Mode. PLEEEEASE! 🙏🙏🙏😅 I want to be able to put the cup on the scale and start brewing without having to press another button - me and many colleagues prefer to measure extraction with pre-infusion, not on first drop. Don't wanna think on buying Acaia or Felicita. Loved what you guys did to AKU PRO, just this little very important thing is missing. Hopefully someone from Varia will get to read this.
@@Jtstien I've seen two different answers, one saying it has this feature (Instagram), and another from e-mails I've sent them where they told me it doesn't have it. I'll make myself clear about what I'm asking: set a mode, put a cup on the scale, then the scale will automatically tare, after it tares it will automatically time right after it tares, meaning it will not wait for a drip or flow, it will start the timer before, letting you time your extraction with your pre-infusion. Most scales only start timing on first drip. From the video and manual, all I could understand is that it has auto-timer but only after detecting flow rate (not just a solid instant weight, as a cup). Plus it has a delay timer after it detects a liquid flow.
This thing rips, I can't wait to have the red match my Gaggia.
Great review. Nice to see the Pressensor mentioned. A great piece of kit.
It really is!
please make a review on the Varia Aura Flux
when navigating thru the AKU FLOW MODE you always need to HOLD the tare button? is there anyway to just go to AKU FLOW MODE in one HOLD only?
Is pro worth it if all I do is espresso/milk drinks?

Does the spro mode have an option to auto tare and start the timer immediately and not only after first drop?
yes: 2:42 into video. Again at 4:23

Awesome scale! But would it fit on the drip tray of a Linea Micra. I am concerned about the depth. Better the mini then?
How does it compare to the Acaia Lunar?
It might not have the auto tare + instant (not waiting for flow rate) auto timer. waiting for this info as well as some others here.

Nice review! Can it show flow rate while on flow mode?

It sounds like this already has that feature? What am I missing?
