      The V scale is common in North America. The system they’re using here is based on a French scale that goes from about 3 to 9 (don’t ask why). The a b and c are subgrades. So a 6c is tougher than a 6b in theory but it’s sort of esoteric. So yeh, an 8c is a V15, a pretty advanced route. V17 is the hardest on tat scale but many gyms don’t set that high because only pros climb at that level and the people that work there generally set problems at least one of them can complete.
      Many systems are used and location isn’t always indicative of which system will be used. While comps in the UK use the French system, my gym uses the V system.

      @@rustycr0w misleading info there. V scale is for boulder, French is for lead. There is no real way to compare a lead climb and a boulder. Check for yourself en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_(climbing)#Comparison_tables

    • @rustycr0w
      @rustycr0w 5 лет назад +1

      @@psybigz My mistake. We call Fontainebleu scale French because we only climb boulders and Fontainebleu is in France. So when I said French I meant the Fontainebleu scale which is why I said 'a French scale'! You're right the proper 'French' scale is for lead and I can see how it would be confusing for a newcomer.

    There's certainly a few body types that work best for climbing. It's all about leverage strength / body weight. I've never seen a tall guy with naturally muscular legs but skinny upper body in these climbing videos. If that's what nature gave you, it looks like this sport is a pass.

    • @dailyclimbing
      @dailyclimbing  Год назад +1

      Eric! This sport is for everyone!

    • @ericastier1646
      @ericastier1646 Год назад

      @@dailyclimbing no, What i meant is that climbing favors certain anatomies and not others. Of course any bird can try to fly but some birds are flightless . Those with naturally incompatible body types for climbing will get frustrated with the sport. Attention i do not mean level of fitness, but the body type factor. If you survey all the climbers anatomies who reach an intermediate level, you see no people with long limbs because that reduces leverage strength (physics) and increases weight, those attributes might give an advantage in other sports but not climbing.
      And so for climbing one predominant anatomy is short or middle height. Long limbs people are notoriously absent unless they're also proportionally stronger to offset their lower leverage disadvantage with massively more muscles but that quickly becomes incompatible too because fingers are also limited in supporting the whole body weight in transition moves.
      Gymnastics is another such naturally discriminating sport for anatomies. You only see short limbs people.
      You could still try the sport with an incompatible body but i think you will reach a hard plateau at the lower wall difficult grades. It would be interesting to hear your response on this.

    • @johnshipley1389
      @johnshipley1389 Год назад

      Dude there’s loads of lanky weak people crushing it , climbers come in all shapes and sizes but a more important attribute is perseverance through failure, get mediocre at that and you’ll become a good climber regardless of your physical form
