As an Atlanta substitute teacher I get to luckily have my "own style". I work in predominantly high schools and whenever I wear a blazer especially my classic navy one I discovered in my late dad's closet, I receive "compliments" all day long from my teenage female students all the way to my co-workers including the administrative staff😊. Thanks again as usual John. 😊❤🎉💯.
Love it!
I subbed at a small school here in Ohio (I’m in between jobs right now) and I decided to dress up every day. No jeans, only dress shirts, no sneakers, etc.
I dressed better than every man on staff.
They came to work in tee-shirts and school-logo athletic attire. I got compliments from the boys on my watch, even though it was classy looking but not expensive. I rolled up my sleeves on my dress shirts. The kids would chat with me about things I believe because I was professional in my attire and I think that means a lot.
And the thing is, it was easy. It just got me in the rhythm of dressing nice and “up.” The kids were always looking forward to me subbing and I was always the favorite sub. Made my job so much more pleasant and hopefully my attire will rub off on the young men.
I live in Paris France my friend
And even in France
Your comments are still valid
Great video
Thank you!!
Thanks John.
My personal fashion taste have change dramatically ever since I've been watching you from shirt to pants to shorts to shoes trend since 2023. What a fascinating transformations.
Verry sharp styles, everthing you wear you look great in
Thank you!
For shorts, my preference is a cotton / linen blend. They look a little more casual than chino shorts. They also breathe better. I found a couple brands that fit me well, so I wear those all summer as my default "very casual" option.
Love it!
Great video, thanks John!
Glad you liked it!
I'm with it for everything except one: texture/knit polo top. A bit too trendy for me and this isn't the first time they've cycled through stores. I've just gotten rid of several that took me years to throw out. Rarely wore them, and now they're back. I am however, on the suede loafer fever and searching for the right side adjust pants. Nice video!
Thank you!
NICELY DONE JOHN, AS USUAL! I'M DIGGING THE BELTS. STAY SAFE BROTHER
Thank you
Great video John!!! I’ve got the light taupe loafers from Suit Supply - great for summer! BTW I caught your conversation on the Gent Z channel. I found it super informative! Seems like surgery was coming up soon - praying all goes well!
Thank you!
Great suggestions
Back in the day when I was in the Australian navy, the bell bottoms had side adjusters, always thought that was a good idea. Then the tops had zips down the sides which was interesting, made for a tight fitting uniform. A few years later they changed the uniform throwing out tradition but that's another story.
Just also following up on a previous video by John. This is the start of Men's Health Week!!
I enjoyed seeing you on the GentZ podcast. Way to pay it forward!
Much appreciated! Thank you!
Thank you
My pleasure!
I checked out the side adjust pants on Amazon, they look good, but they a are pleated. I did not think anyone wore pleats anymore ? I have not wore pleated pants in a very long time. I am 57 so i have been around long enough to know pleated pants, lol.
I only have to look good for one woman and she doesn't seem to care at all about what I wear. It's pretty annoying. 😂I agree on the side adjusters, very neat look. Great video.
Legend: Really Like 👍 that shirt, you’re wearing 🤗Very Kool 💕John 😬
Thank you!
Since I have never been in a relationship,I've never cared about my clothes or how I look, but this is good information for men who are looking to meet someone 👍🏻 !
Even if you are happy being single, it shouldn't stop you from looking your best or making an effort 🤔
@@davidbowman2035 no way
I recommend getting chinos from Indochino, but ask for a half break or you might get high waters.
@4:23 Just imagine, on a date you say to her: "By the way, you see this beautiful belt? It's vegan!" 🤣
Haha!
Not gonna lie, my wife would love that comment! (Vegan family) and she’s the kind of girl we want compliments from! (I want compliments wherever I can get them 😅)
@@jongurn00 Hm... I wouldn't want any compliments from vegans. That's for sure 😁
@@CheckYourPremises sounds like you’re a blast at parties. So edgy.
@@jongurn00 Sounds like you are one of those brainwashed scrawny pencil-like simps 😁
good video on summer styles... One question: When wearing a knit shirt with small perferations (like the black one you are wearing in this vid) should you wear something under it to conceal exposed skin or doesn't it matter?
If the holes are small, no undershirt is needed.
Hey john, I heard that the sans-a-belt polyester pants are making a comeback… thoughts? 😂
I like side adjuster pants but I'm reluctant to order clothes online just in case they don't fit properly. Also, as someone else pointed out, the ones on Amazon are pleated - I haven't worn pleated pants since the 1990s, which was the last time they were in style. But side adjuster pants are very difficult to find in brick-and-mortar stores in the US/Canada where I can actually try them on first. Any suggestions?
I got a pair from suit supply. Granted, they are on the expensive side.
Where can you buy the light tan collared knit polo at 5:30 in the video?
I put links to everything in the video description.
Hey John, love the content. What about polos with a 1/4 zipper? Just curious, thanks.
Love them! I have one!
Hi John, whilst this is a great video for you chaps on the Northern side of the equator, is there any chance you can cover off a Winter Video for us on the Southern sie of the Equator. Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Southern South America?
Great points here John! As men being well dressed should be a staple. However, it doesn't seem like there's that much competition for the most part. Once outside the larger metro areas mens style terribly lacks. However, for women, fashion/style is paramount regardless of location for the most part. I live in a rural area now and still dress with modern men's style. I'll get complements on my style from time to time. If these rural area women are paying attention I'm sure they are in the larger metro areas too. Can't go wrong with staying on top of style no matter where you are.
Well said!
I would argue that even within metro areas men’s general sense of style is pathetically lacking. As John has pointed out before, the current bar is set incredibly low. Be half way decent and you will dominate the competition.
@@DougHardy541 I agree. My social circle is pretty much working professionals so those metro area guys are typically squared away and could do better. However, my brother in law who is a w working professional still wheres baggy cargo shorts and jeans with a graffic t-shirt and flip flops, gag. His wife/sister in law, is always dressed in a stylish seasonal outfit. It doesn't make sense at all.
@@DougHardy541 "Halfway decent and you will dominate the competition". That's it in a nutshell. I've lived in the Minneapolis area for almost twenty years, and it doesn't take much effort to be the best dressed guy in any room. Around here, dressing up a little is wearing two hoodies, cargo shorts, wrap around sunglasses, some kind of "sport" watch, and NB tennis shoes that you wore while mowing the lawn. 😉
I don't consider my effort to be uppity, or snobby at all. Just solid well coordinated colors, clean, neat, understated watch, a tiny bit of good cologne, and polished shoes. Oh, and good manners...and a smile! 🙂
Just wear red and see how women react.I once thought this was a joke until ❤
How is the surgery recovery going? When I had mine done a few years back, it was hard to sit still and not over do it.
It’s a long story, but it got rescheduled to this Thursday.
Dress for yourself, to feel well and nice for yourself! To dress to "impress" women, men or anybody else is to have low self steem and to have the need for other's approval.
What eould you wear to a summertime funeral when you'll be outside in the hot sun? I for sure don't want to wear a black suit.
Do you have a favorite chino brand?
Not really, there’s a lot out there. Banana republic, express, John Henric, bonobos just to name a few.
I'm 10 hrs late 🤦🏻♂️
Haha!
Oh and don't forget to drive a mid-engine black Corvette for that mid-life or end-of-life vibe you're projecting! LOL.
Lol have you washed that T-shirt lately that makes you feel “edgy”?
@@noName-kn1lx Funny, I'm just jealous bro!
I notice that all of your models have rock hard bodies. Of course they look good in those clothes. But I don't think your viewers have that kind of Physique.
Understood, but maybe you can help me find visual examples of stylish guys with dad bods. It’s not as easy as you might think.
You don’t need to! But like me, John inspired me to lose weight. I’m down 41 pounds and my clothes actually fit me to the point I’m close to having to get new clothes. Everything is baggy now.
I’ve got 20 more pounds to go, and I will never be a rock hard model, but close enough and I feel great. Just being able to run three miles at 59 gets me excited. The ability to look really nice in my clothes is an added benefit. Don’t sell yourself short. If you have the ability, get in shape. I’m blessed with excellent health so I’m taking advantage of it.
@@40OverFashion most of us over 50 to mid 60's don't have that nice tight waistline anymore. We used to when we were in our 20's and 30's, but not anymore. So we would probably not look good in those clothes. Especially when we need to tuck in the shirt. That really shows the barrel.
He shows himself in many outfits. He's decently trim and fit, but doesn't have a rock-hard body. I think the point is to pick the right size for your body.
The belts you are promoting are ugly 🤮. They look like something I wear when I was in the military.
Your 'fashion' channel has deteriorated into one paid ad after another. You've lost credibility.
Sorry you feel that way. I’ve been 100% transparent with the reason why I take on brand deals. If you don’t like the ad read, feel free to skip past it. The rest of the video still provides value.
I'm not much into pleasing other people but if you are able to get some looks then you are doing it correct.
Exactly!
Hey John, another solid video, I have at least 15 Anson belts and just picked up another 3. I can't find a solution for wearing loafers, as it doesn't lace up, it slips off my heel, the only other footwear exception is chukkas. Here in rural SW WA all quality clothing purchases must be made online, so I'm very particular about what I purchase. Esp. since everybody arounds me dresses like a slob, no sh*t.
And more on topic. Alan Flusser's book "Dressing the Man" so much backs up John's videos!!!
here in summer, in the desert SW, it's too hot to wear much.. so one thing i've found that's basically affordable for anyone in a dept store is a well-fitting T shirt.
the boxy, straight cut shirt with baggy sleeves are gone from my dresser. the difference of the goofy box shirt and a well fitting t shirt is like.. $3.
worth every extra penny.
cotton, no logos.
good example can be seen at @1:05 in vid
Thanks for watching!
Great video John! Anything one can do to get more admiring glances from the opposite sex is always a good thing! Plus, looking good adds to enclothed cognition! (Okay, I got that from Antonio at RMRS!)
Thanks for watching!
Nice to have a little room to breathe, but not sloppy. And agree, dislike those plaid shirts
I echo your sentiment about side adjusters-they’re just awesome. The lack of belt loops creates a fantastic style. Also, concerning the chinos, recommend lighter colors for summer to help keep cool. I often wear white and receive compliments from women (of all ages) on how “dressed up” I am wearing simple chinos.
Yes. Exactly!
I'm a dude who just loves buying nice clothing that compliment my specific body type, and my complexion, but have fallen back on exercising and now I have somewhere between an A & B cup tits and in my first trimester 😂😂, but I'm gonna invest in some athletic shoes this week, so I can once again not look sorta ewww. 😂😂, great video, love it.
Do your style advice apply for Europe or do you agree that there could be somes cultural differences ? I live in France and it's not easy to find the styles you mention neither in trousers nor in polos or knitted shirts...for the belts ok, it seems Anson ships internationaly...
I live in the US, so yes, there may be differences in other countries.
I rarely see vest mentioned in many of the videos. Are vest acceptable for a male over 40 or is it to hipster?
It can work in the right setting. It’s a bold move.
Hello sir
Where did you get that cool black polo ?😊
The link is in the description box.
What you want are giant oversized jorts that hit midway at your calves. Wear with confidence like all the cool kids with a midriff baring vest
Good one.
Surprised you're not shilling just overpriced stuff as everyone else. Then, everyone keeps wearing tbesame old stuff to avoid the cost. Cheaper options may be enough for little wear or to test new stuff. Or may just be hood enough! 👍
