They were foul asf for adding Amber Benson in the credits just for Seeing Red.
they wanted to do it for jesse back in season one, but didn't have the money.
And for not having Jenny in the intro
It's the most whedon thing that whedon ever whedoned.
I think the reason that this theme song works so well is because it's basically a superhero theme of some kind. It starts off ominous, almost horror-like, but then the guitars kick in and the tone becomes far more defiant, brave, and fearless.
I guess that's why this theme is so good.
Was I the only one that was hooked with this and charmed? I remember just buying the dvds for these and it was the best thing in my life. I would watch two episodes of these everyday and watch it from the beginning till the end. I still remember when season 5 dvd just came out and season 7 dvd promo
You're not the only one. I just turned 30 and I still love and rewatch Buffy and Charmed when I can. They're so good. And they help fill that nostalgia itch when I need to get away from modern day.
At first I was like wtf is Jonathan doing in this intro.. and then I remembered the episode it was from. Classic!

Anyone else remember watching this LIVE back in the day? I'm talking 90s people. When we used vhs recorers to record these episodes. Ahhhh the first version of "dvr" lol. I loved fast forwarding the commercials. I watched the theme song EVERY episode. "Buffy" was a year older than me at the time it aired and she basically was like a big sister to me. This show was the first "adult" tv show I ever got addicted to. (Meaning no cartoons) No other show competed with my addiction since.

I always found it a little funny that the final dramatic shot of Buffy in the season 6 and 7 openings isn't actually Buffy.
I find it annoying.😣💢

I'm writing that because Hulu and Disney+ have merged all 144 episodes from all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is available to stream on Disney+.

It's interesting that the start of Season 7 is the only season without a cast change.
so I was curious about the theme music difference. at first I thought the season 1 and 2 themes were different recordings, but I think its the same with EQ and mastering differences. Season 3 is definitely a different recording of the music. It's hard to find information that addresses that.
So I used to watch this live back in the day and I first noticed a difference in the theme song in season 2. The guitar is more electric and lasts a tiny bit more each rift. They remastered it for all of the blu rays way back in the day but when it aired back in 97 and 98, you could hear the difference on your box tv. Back when we had to use a vhs recorder and stop recording once the commercials came on and statted recording once they were done and the show returned. The good old days! :)

I'm currently on season 5 with my family. And I cannot help but see spoilers for what's up next! Back when we were on season three, I found about about Joyce's fate. Then, just now, I see "Season 6 version 1- Removes Giles".

Don’t worry. Nothing major has been spoiled that would reduce the enjoyment of seasons 6 and 7. Enjoy the show!
Giles is removed from the credits but he is still very much a major part of the show for the rest of the run.
Willow Dies
I hate how Amber Benson was never a part of the opening credits until the episode she dies. Literally everyone else in the scoobies has one. Even in the musical episode where they have to create a variant and she sings a solo shes not given a billing.
Joss Whedon specifically wanted to kill off a character in the first episode they were featured in the credits of. Originally, he wanted to make it Eric Balfour (Jesse) in the pilot, but they wouldn't let him.
And while it’s a fun idea, I wish they had been able to do it with Jesse, because at that point it would have been surprising and not really impacted anything. Kind of a bummer for Benson, who by all rights should have been in the opening credits since the start of Season 5, and had to wait until 3/4 of the way through Season 6 to get her due. Hopefully she was cool with it. I still remember the shock of that episode.
It was actually Amber’s choice not to be in the credits. She didn’t want to be classed as a regular and instead decided to be classified as recurring
They added her in on the episode that she dies to give you a false sense of security. You see her now in the intro and think she's now in the show for a while which makes her death all that more shocking in the show. In a way its genius.
You missed the variation from the pilot where the intro in slightly extended and enhanced.
There was also another variation from the first 2 episodes of season 4 where there's a clip of buffy hitting Sunday across the room and one from season 7 episode 1 that show willow flawing warrens body that were only aired on TV. Just an FYI!!

On my copy of the season three DVD, the first episode or two plays the original first two seasons theme music with the updated theme credit format. It's kind of awesome.

I liked the first version most from season and 2 but i may just be biased as seasons 1 through 3 are my faves but the music is better. Theme song changed season 3.
