What are collinear points

👉 Learn essential definitions of points, lines, and planes. A point defines a position in space. A line is a set of points. A line can be created by a minimum of two points. A plane is a flat surface made up of at least three points. A plane contains infinite number of lines. A ray is a line starting from a point but extending infinitely and a segment is a line joining two endpoints.
A point is labeled using a capital letter. A line can be labeled using any two points on the line. A plane can be labeled using any three points on the plane. Two or more points are said to be collinear if the points lie on the same line. Two or more points are said to be coplanar if the points lie on the same plane.

@@joytinath160 To be honest, not all teachers teach the same. All teachers have different techniques but i think you'd have to either adapt to your teachers way of teaching or tell him/her to slow it down and teach you. They do have a degree after all.

I have got a question in my book on coordinate geometry which goes like this check if the points (1,5),(2,3)(-2,-11) are collinear how to check?

First, take two of these three points (doesn't matter which) in order to find the equation of their common line. Since any line can be expressed as y = k*x + n (explicit form), and let's say you took the first two points, you will need to solve the system of the following two equations: 5 = k + n AND 3 = 2*k + n. The answer is k = -2 and n = 7. That gives us the line y = -2*x + 7 Now check if the third point fulfils the found equation: -11 = (-2)*(-2) + 7 ← this obviously isn't true, so the three points are not collinear.
The approach above should be used if you're only allowed to use algebra. Otherwise, drawing a coordinate system and constructing the points and then manually checking if they lie on the same line will probably be faster.
