@@imokff2516yeah. We had to do two plaited braids😅 but that would still "expose our necks" so I don't know that is the real reason.
And in America, it's the don't expose your shoulders or wear skirts or shorts too short lest you excite the boys. I think its fine to be modest. I dress modestly actually for religious reasons. But it is not okay to say modesty is to deter the eyes or actions of men. They are more than capable of controlling themselves. If not, then they should be caged like the animal they are. 🤷♀️
I didnt grow up in uniformed schools though. And didnt have any restrictions on hairstyles that I can think of. So its weird to me to dictate whether someone can wear a ponytail or dye their hair. I can maybe understand hair dye because its practice for a professional work environment. But hairstyles?

One thing I vividly remember from high school is one of our teachers explaining why girls couldn’t wear tank tops (and mind you boys could), and a guy was like, “Do you think we’d look at a girl and go, ‘mmmmm, shoulders’?” I definitely understand some dress code policies, but having unequal policies because “all boys are horny” is such a weird take. The fact that its the TEACHERS who are seeing girls with ponytails and saying they are sexually suggestive shows those teachers need to be investigated and away from the children

it is, however, nonsense to sexualize children in such a way and subject everyone to rules created to appease those who can't control their own sexual fetishes.

“Necks on women” Almost every living thing has a neck bro 💀💀💀💀
It stems from the traditional dress. The back of the kimono is pulled back to expose the back of the neck. On geishas, that area is only half painted. With a full face done, and the paint going all the way down to under the front edge, hands and that spot back there were all the skin you would see. Granted, modern geishas are more than what most think of them as (they're entertainers, musicians, conversationalists, etc), but that image is still there. Pair a high ponytail with a school uniform shirt that has fallen backwards, and it creates the same image. That is where the logic stems from.

Tbh, I hate that mentality. It's reductive for us all.
If they're in school, anything sexual should be off the table, they're kids, just let them learn, and stop punishing girls for simply existing 😭

The problem is the boys who allow themselves to get distracted by such menial "nudity". It's like in the western times in America when women were forced to wear layers and be covered from the neck down. It's to avoid sexual thoughts and actions. BUUT.. that doesn't make it right at all. It is no persons fault if the opposite sex is aroused by exposed skin. Kids ARE trying to learn and adults are trying to make that happen.. but a ban on a hair style sounds like they need to have conversations with the boys about not sexualizing everything..
You can’t really control when you have a sexual thought and during adolescence, it can be difficult to control when and how you become aroused. But that isn’t the issue here. The issue is that adults think that young girls are able to control themselves in a public environment while young boys cannot. This is disrespectful to both parties as it’s putting all of the fault of the situation on the girls while actively infantilizing the boys. Girls do need to stop being punished for simply existing. But part of the way we do that is by acknowledging that boys are responsible for their own behavior.
They’re like “stop being sexy 😡”, well stop sexualizing them!
Yeah if he boys are being inappropriate then deal with them and their behavior, dont make the girls have to chage their behavior for simply existing
I wear a ponytail to school everyday or school, and I live in Scotland. We are actually told to tie our hair back if it’s long in certain classes such as science, home economics (cooking), and Design and Manufacture (woodworking). Well it depends. It’s a gray area between perversion and normally “exciting” things. But this one is black and white, so I can safely say this is weird.
Exactly
Stating that men who get sexually aroused by a lady's neck are perverts isn't backward? Perverts are not defined by what they feel but by what they do. You can get sexually aroused by many things and learn to control it. Indeed many men are easily aroused and learn to control themselves since they are teenagers which requires self discipline and takes a lot of energy. I believe male sexuality is a tabu, usually we experience arousal in a more violent difficult to control way.
Your erection is not her fault, her responsibility, or her problem. If your boy can't stop himself from venting his sexual frustrations by harassing girls because he blames them for his lack of self control, and he can't focus on his schoolwork because he can't take his eyes off of her body, then it is his parents' responsibility to keep him home from school until he can tell the difference between a sexual setting and a non-sexual setting. His sexuality is not for her to manage, she's not obligated to endure inconvenience and discomfort just so that he doesn't have to govern his own behavior. Every girl you meet is not your mother, dude.
I wouldnt say its a truth bomb at all but it can be applied to this situation perfectly. If you cant control yourself over NECK than you need to be assaulted until you dont get excited by neck.

for boys its a mere insult, for girls its more than just an insult bc they're the ones ACTUALLY getting affected by it. its not the same.
Yeah I liked her as well. A very matured individual.
Exactly, men aren’t wild animals, they’re people, so they shouldn’t hide behind the excuse that “they can’t control their desires” because they very well can, people just let them get away with it. The men who hide behind it just degrade their entire gender
The feelings of the men who can control themselves is the least of concern right now, they’re not the ones losing basic freedom. I don’t get why every problem that directly impacts women have to be made about men too.
Edit: plus, there’s no one else to blame for the precautions taken around dangerous men, because there have been, in fact, many dangerous men. If it insults you so much, why am I not seeing that many men fighting against creepy men? In fact, all I’m seeing online are women sticking up for themselves, or men trying to justify the actions of the creepy men one way or another.
When a man harms you, you best bet people will say it could have been prevented had you taken care of yourself more by taking meticulous precautions. They will not directly victim-blame you (to avoid getting called out for it), but they sure will insinuate that your actions ultimately led to yourself being in that situation. These people are often none other than men.
Though this is not to say banning women from basic freedom is the solution. If you ask me what the solution is, I’d say it’s for the world to end. Because there’s absolutely nothing that can be done to stop men from being scary, dangerous, and destructive. Crime stats do not lie. We’re all just waiting for the next person unfortunate enough to get assaulted when you’re just trying to live normally, especially if you’re a girl or a kid.
Because the problem for women was explicity created upon a generalization of men by japanese schools
If the guys can't control themselves, kick them out of the school. They are a danger to the girls.
I think you over - interprated what they said, they just mentioned that it was apparently one of the reason, it's an hypothesis, there is no need to go extremely strict and to ostracize every boys just because they are boys, anger solves no problems if there is any, global cases and specifics cases are to be considered with reflexions about this kind of subjects

That guy deserves a trophy. Love his funny, brutal honesty
I once attended a school that had the exact opposite rule. Girls were required to tie up their hair because having your hair down naturally is seen as “dressing up” and “caring about your appearance too much” and that might “distract you and everyone else from studying”. It’s just ridiculous. If students are so easily distracted by normality, such as exposed necks or people caring about how they look, then the school has done a terrible job educating the students on sorting out their priorities
Edit: I didn’t talk about this from a sexism POV because this particular school had other rules that were equally ridiculous but applied to both male and female students. Example: no sneakers more expensive than $100 (USD) were allowed to be worn
I’m aware that many dress code violations are unfair to females and as a female I feel that. But the point I wanted to make in this specific comment is that, if schools want students to learn self control, then they should educate them on what’s important, instead of fanning out normality masked in alleged “distractions”.
True. And when those kind of rules show up, it has often been shown to lean heavily in favour of dictating feminine dress which, you know, is unjustifiably discriminative. And in more ways than one! That person at the end was very insightful saying that it's disrespectful to assume a lack of self control in boys. It's disrespectful and it sets a low bar. And, of course, it's even more disrespectful to imply that girls must adjust their appearance for the comfort or convenience of boys.
The fact that this is such a binary system betrays it's weakness. At least if we tried to apply these rules across the board, I think it would become apparent more quickly how useless the whole endeavour is.
that doesn’t even make sense. having your hair down means you *didn’t* dress up, you did literally nothing with your hair it’s just natural like that. i’m just so confused.
I disagree.
Kids in the teen years can easily be distracted when it’s a mix of both male and female in the classrooms.
It has nothing to do with the school not doing it’s job.
That is ridiculous.
This is the time when hormones are revving up in young people and it is only part of the natural process that boys will start feeling more attracted to girls and vice-versa.
It’s the time when each is trying to get the other’s attention even if they are unaware they are doing it.
I don’t think it’s right to “blame” anyone or the school.
Different cultures may focus on different things that are considered distracting to the opposite sex.
Whether we agree or disagree is not the point. It is what it is.
Being female, I am all for female emancipation, but you can’t be foolishly blind to human nature either.
Maybe it is a good idea after-all, to have high school age boys and girls in separate classrooms so they focus on learning and not get distracted by each-other.
Then girls do not have to be needlessly and unfairly subjected to certain rules and boys don’t have to be either.
Grade school and college age kids are less likely to be affected so it seems ok to mix males and females without them distracting each other.
Which again, is normal and natural.
The concept of schools is what is not really normal or natural (to lump together a huge mass of young people), and expect them, at the ages when hormones begin moving them towards adulthood, to not feel or experience some distraction, even if they don’t act on it.

You're right. Perverts also hide with this mindset that this is the normal mentality of men. This is not the norm. There are more decent men than there are perverts and maniacs. It's just that society has allowed it to be catered more to the perverts.
Not to mention that structuring society off that sexist and misandrist assumption WILL eventually create more mindless sex machines. It’ll become a self-fulfilling prophecy
@@jasminespencer2872 wut
@@animefans2420 I agree, that person was speaking the truth
“Why do we have to accommodate to perverts?” Say it louder. These men and little boys need to learn self control. That is their own fault.
Ppl rlly do be victim blaming so much
Youre acting like all men are perverts and are attracted to necks and will do something inappropriate because she has a ponytail out. Grow up. Men arent monsters. Stop being so scared of the thing that protects you.
No, it's the lawmakers' fault.
speak louder chief
I feel like someone just assumed that's what all boys are like and made this rule. Pretty sure it's 100% whoever made the rule projecting their own weird fantasies
うちの学校はポニーテールしないといけなかったな。というか、結ばなくちゃいけなかった。
“we shouldn’t have to accommodate the perverts” EXACTLY END OF DISCUSSION
It goes back to a point I read in a book once, that the moment you accommodate to a minority who wants to step in and make things worse for society, it's the moment you burn the majority, a majority that is beneficial, the whole that is the whole world. It creates a dystopian reality where we live as if we aren't burning and angry or hurt, even if the world is on fire right before our eyes, cascading down into a bottomless pit of systemic unhappiness.
This reality has already started and has been a thing for centuries. Some come have come in and "put an end" to the burning, and it seems all fine, after the fire, even if a lot is still burnt. Sometimes the fires come back, or maybe they were always there, ready to be ignited with a bit of air, a slight shameful breath whom wants to see the world burn.
This is just a big metaphor relating to what she said.
As a dude, it is kinda messed up to make some guy's neck fetish into every lady's problem. They are the common denominator. They are the ones that need to control their own urges. Not only as a matter of fairness, but to teach him how to properly behave himself in society widely. It also gives these kind of boys the wrong lesson, that their fetish is some one else's problem. When it is their duty to watch their own behavior and they really need to be taught self accountability for their own actions.
🔥💯💥
I stand by what you said.
There are really messed up regulations placed on girls, and not a lot of meaningful effort in teaching boys proper sexual functioning and management, it's usually a one dimensional stories of, Girls have to cover up, because boys are sexually obsessed machines.
However, i don't think that schools are a place for sexual flaunting, however that should be rigidly defined and constrained to secondary sexual characteristics and common sexual display present in the animal kingdom, and it must be applied to both sexes, if a girl shows up showing cleveage, it's a no go, if a guy shows up with a tight shirt to show off his muscle, it's also a no go.
That's my idea.
YES
That’s the thing, they know what’s going to happen to them and they do it anyways
The last girl is so kind 😭
