Maybe you could try this out, put borax in a coffee grinder until it is a fine powder, powder the steel in the stack. The idea being that the flux will protect the steel from oxidation before it has a chance to scale. You do want to keep borax dry, in an airtight container if need be, the hydrated form of borax decomposes at 75 C and is worthless as a flux.
What a beautiful knife, love the contrast of the Damascus and other section, as well as the Damascus patterning and handle. Beautiful brother. God bless you Will.
Beautiful work, and a rare talent...on a side-note, I've been carrying, using, and caring for knives for about 45 years, since I was 8 years old. I still pick up new honing techniques from watching blade smiths put the final edge on their work. I don't have anything but mass-produced knives in my collection (so far) but every one of them is shaving sharp. I intend to get at least one handmade masterpiece in my collection before I take my last breath...it's a goal, and you're on the short-list of people whose work I'd admire having.
Pretty twisted design, but it looks real good. It's real nice to see another upload on this channel, especially a forge project. I'm super glad to watch this channel.
Will, you could put out a video every day and I wouldn't get sick of them. Favorite RUclipsr. I'd give anything to be able to afford one of your knives!! Amazing work as always!!
Very happy too see you making a knife again. All the restoration projects are fun and entertaining but I enjoy forging of blades the most. Great blade!
Absolutely amazing, perfect balance of ASMR hammer on metal and music and not some gaudy project but something that is functional and beautiful! Great job!
First off: As someone who loves to cook, that is an absolutely gorgeous knife. And I love how you pay attention to the functionality as well as the look. Secondly: I've been a public speaker for about 40 years--and a teacher/coach of public speakers for about 20. You have come *so far* in your speaking skills for these videos. You are so much more confident, comfortable, and relaxed than when you started (and when you were working with Alec). Bravo.
Wow! .... and I was impressed by the damascus knives I'm giving away to my subscribers.... now mine look like shit! Great work will. I love your channel and antique brand when it comes to tools and shop. Very well put together.
such a beautiful knife Will! Love it! All that stacking and forge welding - glad the billet turned out and you weren't a victim of cold shuts or delams!!! It's a unique pattern that reminds me of watery Wootz! Gorgeoous!
Gorgeous work Will! If I can, I might have an idea to make your final shot even more beautiful - showing the knife on a background that is contrasting both the color of the handle and the blade, that would make that beautiful blade pop even more, in my opinion :)
That is a gorgeous knife! Love to see the power hammer up and running being put to good use! I love the idea of restoration of any sort so it was fun to watch that as well!
I'm glad you got your shop done. You're a very talented young man. I've really enjoyed watching your learning curve with your time with Alec. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing your time and talent! KANSAS
Educational... Actually forging... and it's a gorgeous knife... Video Quality... Sound Quality... Editing... all much improved. All around fantastic and entertaining. I am looking forward to more videos from you.
Omg, you've done so much of the shop projects and other non-forging that i almost forgot that you are an absolute fantastic bladesmith, this one was gorgeous, absolute stunning, the over the top-bit made you show a lot of different techniques. 5 of 5 for the video 👌
Finally!! It's nice to see you back forging. I'd like to suggest forging a Maguro knife for a future project. These are used in Japanese fish markets to breakdown i.e .butcher massive tuna fish , 300 lbs and up. They are a perfect combination of hard wear commercial work tools and high level artisanal masterworks.
The Beaudry really came out beautiful. It's great to see you getting to finally use it. I really love the look of the knife too. It reminds me a lot of a snake molt pattern, especially with the curves.
i love watching Will work, miss him on Alex's channel but glad you weren't gone from youtube completely. can't wait to see your channel grow even more. you deserve nothing but success
Great build Will! The pattern in that damascus turned out fantastic mate, well done, and not at all discombobulated in any way, visible to the naked eye or otherwise⚒️👍 😅
Ha! We've seen your blade craft execution before and expected no less than exceptional results. I have to say, my anxiety level went up a few notches on that outro while gesturing with an extremely sharp object. Hehe. Good job not cutting anything off.
That #10 has a great look on film. I see that it impacts with force like the massive power hammer that you used at Alec's shop, so I know that it is going to serve you well for forging in the future.
Hi Will, was kinda wondering why the mechanical power hammer over the air operated one. I have several machine shop items that are flat belt driven. I am kinda stuck in the early 1900 time period, I started doing a little blacksmithing to help making repairs in my antique engine collection hobby. Wish you could show more of the Beaudery mechanical movements. Thanks for sharing. 👍🔥⚒
Gotta love your explanations of what you're doing and why. I feel like I'm learning something with each video. And I can't forget to mention how amazing that knife looks. Wow!
Great video once again Will. I totally understand the Dog and Toy deal. I buy my Goldendoodle toys with a squeaker and then time how fast she gets the squeaker out. = About 5 minutes. Keep up the good work
Cafe bustello is cuban, also pilon coffee, both made from the same beans, by different family members. Only brew i drink, i also have instant on hand for lazy days.
Really enjoyed watching a start-to-finish project in one video, going back to his expertise in chefs knives. Plus the added bonus of seeing previously acquired and set-up equipment in action. Well done. :)
Dude that knife is sweet!! If you didn’t mention that it was white paper micarta then I would have guessed it was ivory with how it shines!! Amazing work man!!
taking a bunch of raw steel and wood, and making THIS out of it is pretty impressive. im almost in tears staring at the result and cant wait for jimmys reaction!
I'm going to have a go at making a block of my own micarta for the first time. I'm going to fabricobble a press for it. I'm thinking denim jean layered with red and black cotton t-shirt material. Or something like that.
Wow incredible ❤️👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Wait til you get to hold it & use it!
Will Stelter should get in on the current Dagger Challenge going on!
Dangggg I gotta figure out a way for you to owe me a favor ! Slick piece! -Matt
First thing that popped in my head was "cant I print him a bunch of stuff."
Matt- Tyrell Knifeworks is doing a Dagger Challenge for YT makers. I'd love to see you and Will do it. m.ruclips.net/video/9HrabQALtRs/видео.html
The funk factor is off the charts with this blade. Much groove. Such spunk.
So wow. Very twist.
Mmm, yes.
*The spunk.*
Im shocked that he used the word spunk. Since he worked with Alec for so long and he is British. Spunk is Brit a slang word for semen.
@@rastalion1505 Yes. And it's also slightly archaic her ein the US, meaning... I don't know. Spirited, with verve, vigorous. That sort of thing.
so glad you are back forging! love your work Will, and the sound is so much better on this video, good job
Wow…. That knife is awesome.
Absolutely love watching you make knives, actually love watching you make anything, thanks for the videos.
Oh man the sound that beautiful Beaudry makes is so nice.
DUDE! Editing, timing, narration, all came together beautifully. Not to mention that exquisite knife. May you go from strength to strength.
Yo Will! Thx for the shoutout. Nice work dood
Thanks for teaching me all the bladesmithing stuff and letting me bug you with questions for the last 6 years!

This was extremely well done, beautiful, and fun. Love the look of that
Wow my goodness that turned out well! It was also super cool seeing the beaudry smash damascus for the first time!
Damn. Alec really, REEEEEEAAAAALLY needs you to teach him grinding and sandpaper use 👀
Amazing work as usual, Will!
Thank you for putting the whole build in one video. A brisk, finely edited, very entertaining video at that. Good work Will.
You are the best blade smith on YT. I love your work.
What a beautiful knife, love the contrast of the Damascus and other section, as well as the Damascus patterning and handle. Beautiful brother. God bless you Will.
wow that knife turned out BAD ASS. i love it
Gotta say, the editing in this video was great.
Now thats a knife! So cool to see how far you’ve come since you left Alecs shop. Wish you well and looking forward to the next one Will!
Good to see the workshop in action!

Pro-tube-rance!
Great job on getting all that out in one piece, Will! 😁
Absolutely fantastic work as per usual!
This production was perfect. Looking forward to more of these. :)

Will! You are really coming into your own.
Glad you are able to produce this kind of programming.
Love your face. Best of luck!
That is one of the sickest knives I have ever seen!!! The damascus is ridiculous!! The handle is perfect. Nice gift!!
Will that knife turned out AMAZING. That's master level craftsmanship
That pattern is incredible, Will!
Very happy too see you making a knife again. All the restoration projects are fun and entertaining but I enjoy forging of blades the most.
Great blade!
I love the handles you make. They are beautiful and very distinctive.
Great knife sir.
Absolutely amazing, perfect balance of ASMR hammer on metal and music and not some gaudy project but something that is functional and beautiful! Great job!
For some reason I absolutely love the filming style that you opened the video with. The dirty work bench over head shot.
First off: As someone who loves to cook, that is an absolutely gorgeous knife. And I love how you pay attention to the functionality as well as the look.

Yes! Back to making knives! You have mad skills, can’t wait to see more.
Stunning piece of cutlery. It was definitely worth the wait.

I don't post comments often, but this knife build is so good that I had to this time. That knife is absolutely perfect! Nice work. I love it!
That is a gorgeous knife! Love to see the power hammer up and running being put to good use! I love the idea of restoration of any sort so it was fun to watch that as well!
i like how you just plopped that out like it was nothing but it's one of the nicest knives i've probably ever seen. Gorgeous!
I'm glad you got your shop done. You're a very talented young man. I've really enjoyed watching your learning curve with your time with Alec. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing your time and talent! KANSAS
You never fail to impress. Well done!

That power hammer really does move some steel!
Wow. you got it, kid. You're gonna be a legend, as long as you don't let it get to your head.
Very beautiful knife Will! Well done! 👍😁
The Beaudry really came out beautiful. It's great to see you getting to finally use it.

Beautiful blade Will. Great job.
I am sooo happy that this tripped onto my RUclips page. I enjoyed you when you were with Alex. Already subscribed with a big smile

That is a work of art! Nicely done. I did love the dog ball amongst the tools on the table too.
Beautiful knife. Can't wait to see more.

Glad to see you back to work now that the shop is built out. Your work is always great to see.
Thanks for the great video.
Great video once again Will. I totally understand the Dog and Toy deal. I buy my Goldendoodle toys with a squeaker and then time how fast she gets the squeaker out. = About 5 minutes. Keep up the good work
My dude, you make art look easy
Beautiful! The wave really sets off the Damascus pattern.
Boy, you really are an artist. What a beautiful piece.
Wow, beautiful knife. Amazing craftsmanship.
Good Job Sir 👍 this will bring him joy to the kitchen. It's a blessing to have a good knife while cooking. Thx for sharing!
Absolutely fantastic. It is simply the best work I've seen you do!
Amazing work as always! And that way you protect the blade while stone sharpening, well i'm gonna steal that cuz it's freaking genius !
Been a while since I've seen you forging a blade! Awesome work. I so love Damascus steel.
Just WOW!! Such an incredible knife. Such beautiful craftsmanship!!
I really like the carving in the handle. Definitely a great piece.
Ha. Marty's not a squeaker dog either. Mine do the same thing! Beautiful knife. I bet Jimmy will love it! Great work!
This felt like an old alec video from 2016 and I loved it! great job Will keep it up!
Cafe bustello is cuban, also pilon coffee, both made from the same beans, by different family members. Only brew i drink, i also have instant on hand for lazy days.
That is one impressive end product! I am sure Jimmy Diresta will love it; heck anyone would. Good work!
Really enjoyed watching a start-to-finish project in one video, going back to his expertise in chefs knives. Plus the added bonus of seeing previously acquired and set-up equipment in action. Well done. :)
Video production value is going through the roof, and that knife rocks!
Production value much improved. Glad to see your doing well.
That thing is a work of art! Absoloutly stunning, great work 👏
Beautiful Knife Will much as I have enjoyed you workshop build I am looking forward to watching you get back to forging knives & other stuff.
It's great to see you heatin and a beatin again. It's been a long minute. The knife is beautiful. Keep up the awesome work as usual.
Hot coffee probably etches a bit faster, since heat typically makes chemical reactions happen faster. So if you're in a pinch keep that in mind!
Love the "pre-narration"
Camera work gave original Alec at the dirt floor forge vibes too.
👌
Dude that knife is sweet!! If you didn’t mention that it was white paper micarta then I would have guessed it was ivory with how it shines!! Amazing work man!!
taking a bunch of raw steel and wood, and making THIS out of it is pretty impressive. im almost in tears staring at the result and cant wait for jimmys reaction!
Wow. That's a thing of beauty Will. Bravo.
