    The comment section here is 90% ridiculous. Who cares if the radio is on? He's not trying for production value. He's just give step by step on how to put it 4 low and how to put it in 4wd neutral (so you can be towed and not have the drivelines turning). Pretty straight forward. Leaving the mistakes in is actually pretty informative. Shows what happens when you do it wrong.

    17 JGC trail hawk trans issues with jolts when shifting at gears 1/2/3. Live in Silver Spring MD and Took it to local dealer in October. They agreed is a power train issue at 35k miles. I’m pretty close to pass the warranty powertrain mark at 5yr/36k miles.
    They gave my car back after 2 weeks stating they replaced a gasket. And still get jolts especially at higher gears now 4/5/6. Also noticed a leak under the car after it being parked assuming trans fluid because of the location of the leak. Took it back, they reopened the issue and it’s been 3 weeks with no update. Called yesterday they said they are still waiting for a valve body part. Right now I am concerned it getting across the warranty line and something major happening… fingers crossed one of two things happen. Value body replacement and no issues. Value body replacement and issues continue past the warranty and the dealer accepts faulty prior warranty deadline and they fix it for free 😐

    • @SteveRivett
      @SteveRivett  2 года назад

      You will have to talk to the service associate and make it clear that you want a permanent fix and not a bandaid fix to get you past the warranty period. You may need to talk to somebody at the national level...look on the forums to see how people have gotten this sort of issue resolved.

    That should be done in P or in N ?.

      Shift transmission to neutral, shift transfer case to neutral, shift transmission back to park and set parking brake, hookup the Jeep to the tow vehicle then release the parking brake and you need to leave the ignition switch in the off, not locked position so that the front wheels can steer with the tow vehicle, leaving the ignition switch locked will cause damage to the steering wheel lock mechanism, plus cause excessive wear to the front tires as they won't be allowed to turn left or right as you go around corners and make other directional changes as you are towing it.

    • @SteveRivett
      @SteveRivett  2 года назад +1

      They must be towed with all 4 wheels on the ground following the instructions in the manual. If you want to use a dolly you have to remove the rear propeller shaft. The benefit of doing that is that you will have trailer brakes helping you.

      If you are a DIY'er the engine bay looks like a nightmare to work on. Hardly any room and a bunch of wires everywhere (which can be said about all new cars I guess). IMO you could sell it for a loss and get a 4runner or Tacoma with locking rear or center differentials, and Torsen limited slip differentials come standard. (LSD's for Jeeps are in the "quadratrac-II" system, in more expensive trims). This Laredo trim right here behaves more like an all wheel drive than a 4wd from what I've read. Just my 2 cents. That 05 also had oil leaks, valve covers and rear main. Hopefully those gaskets were replaced too.

      Big problem with Final Drive Module Control (FDMC) which has to be reprogrammed by Jeep. If they've already re-flashed it, then you likely have a problem with the transfer case actuator. I suggest you go to the Jeep Forum for the topic as this is a huge issue with jeeps....and likely expensive.

      With quadra-drive or quadra-trac there is no 2WD position, only 4-All Time 4WD, the vehicle is in 4WD all the time, but as far as what many think of as being 4 high, the transfer case has a clutch pack that variably sends power to the front axle depending on traction loss detection, it can send up to 100% of the power to the front axle if needed to maintain traction, where a regular part time 4WD system sends 50% to the front and 50% to the rear all the time regardless of traction. Selec-Trac and Command-Trac 4WD (not found in modern Grand Cherokees only 1st gen early model Grand Chorokees had the Command-Trac option, and only 1st and 2nd gen Grand Cherokees had the Selec-Trac option) both have 2WD, 4high, neutral and 4 Low modes....the Selec-Trac 4WD model adds a 4th position 4high full time, which can be left engaged year round regardless of traction conditions, the transfer case has an open center differential in 4 high full time mode allowing the front and rear axles to turn at different speeds allowing for being able to make sharp turns without causing any drive train binding that would occur with a part time 4WD system.
      Quadra-Trac depending on the year of Jeep had 2 different transfer case designs, early models had a viscous coupler in the transfer case that transferred power to the front axle, and had a 48/52 torque split front/rear. Later models had a clutch pack which gave 100% power to the rear axle until traction loss (speed differences) was detected between the front and rear axles, then the clutch pack would variably lock up to transfer power to the front axle.
      Quadra-Drive used the same transfer cases as Quadra-Trac but in the WJ Grand Cherokee (1999-2004) they had front and rear limited slip differentials, which in theory would keep the Jeep moving with only 1 wheel having traction. In 2005 and newer Grand Cherokees they no longer have a front limited slip differential but rely on the traction control and ABS to apply individual brakes to eliminate or reduce wheel spin and transfer power to the other wheel on that axle.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 года назад +2

      Shift transmission to neutral while rolling forward slightly, pull shift lever into low range quickly and firmly without stopping in neutral. You will most likely hear a slight grinding noise and it is normal. The gears in the transfer case are not synchronized, meaning they are not spinning at the same speeds to easily mesh, so rolling forward very slowly while shifting the transfer case to and from low range helps complete the shift procedure, but the grinding is normal.
