  • Anyone who follows my channel knows I'm a fan of Lee dies. They are 95+% of my dies. Exception being dies such as a lockout or combination seating/crimp which Less does not currently manufacture. So naturally when I put my Dillon XL750 together in 2020 my intent was to use Lee dies. Due to my configuration, I soon realized I would only need a decap/resize die (the other dies being "specialty" dies) and decided not to buy a set of Lee dies and instead opted to try something different, an RCBS decapping and resizing die.
I had a number of issues with primer pull back running the standard RCBS decapping die on my XL750. Tried all kinds of solutions like adjusting the die depth, rod/pin depth, polishing the rod, etc. Nothing seemed to work consistently. Did some research and decided to pick up the RCBS Power Punch (I think it's spelled differently) rod for the RCBS body. Found that worked initially, but the spring inside the pin assembly kept getting compressed/deformed. Tweaked the spring as well as ordered replacements. Then got tired of that and just went with the Lee decap/resize die. Challenges there as well considering the thickness of the XL750 tool head (nearly 1"). Not enough threads on the Lee die to do the job I needed.
I had thought about a Dillon decap/resize die over the years, but due to the cough and other supply chain variables, the backorder time was something like 9 months and prices on auction sites were 200-300% retail price. So I waited. Finally found them in stock online and picked them up. It's been a while, so this is the video I finally install and test the resize and decap die on my XL750.

The Lee (6) station press has caught my eye.
Room for both a bullet feed and a powder check die.

I was thinking (but last thing I need is another press) same...actually got one for my son for Christmas last year.

Great idea! I think I'll have some tea when I make my "how I run my XL750 in 2024" video ;-)

You should get parts for your decapping die on order from Dillon ASAP.

No doubt...with a 9 month wait on backordered parts!

    I understand why the Dillon 750 is only (5) stations. I can’t say I like (5).
