    Hello Green T Garden. My name is Annette. I have a garden, and my cantaloupe is putting out all male flowers. I was looking on RUclips to see if anyone else had this problem. Your channel was the first one that came up. I will be trying your suggestions. I just subscribed to your channel. My channel is Kitchen Garden Farmhouse. Thanks for your helpful information. I have family in Long Island, New York. God Bless - from Florida.

    • @Greentgarden

      Sorry that you're having a problem. It's basically common in certain plants , what to do is pinch off some of the male flowers and do a light pruning. It does speed up the growing process bringing in female flowers.. It's always good to plant more than 2 to 3 plants so this way you could cross pollinate too.. Thank you so much for subscribing to my channel. I do appreciate it and I'm really happy that you're a gardener to love my fellow gardeners and super excited to hear you have family in Long Island. It's a beautiful place out here.. Have a wonderful and blessed week ahead and enjoy the gardening

      Sorry to hear about your pumpkin, So with the watermelon you do wanna to put something underneath it to be protected rotten at the bottom there. Something like a basket or a piece of plywood.. also increase your fertilizer , and Keep adding every 2 weeks.. Try to stick to a water schedule. I normally water every 2 to 3 days but as the weather is hot , I water everyone 1-2 days.. and thank you so much 🙏🏾🌱

      @@Greentgarden thanks so much I will do these things, I used cardboard under my pumpkins that's didn't make it, is that possibly why they didn't? Is cardboard bad, when rained I even switched it out so would stay dry.

    • @Greentgarden
      @Greentgarden  Год назад +1

      So with cardboard when it rains the cardboard will get wet and loose apart and if it's wet and underneath your pumpkin it may cause rotten.. definitely don't use cardboard there

      Sorry to hear , I would leave the male flowers at the moment and prune out some of the lower leaves. Do not add any fertilizer. Just add some calcium to the plant..
      And give. It time... The calcium will strengthen up the fruit that's come in and the pruning will speed up the growing process and the only thing after it's time...

    • @Greentgarden

      I am so sorry to hear that. Sometimes it's okay to plant a bit close , once your puring some leaves off , increase the fertilizer and maintain the water it'll have no problem growing..
      Right now I'm guessing it's probably the weather. If it's too hot it might stress out the plant which will affect the flowering and fruit..
      I would say increase the calcium..
      Keep applying fertilize every two weeks. Water every 1 to 2 days. Add the calcium once a month or twice. And just give it a couple days after..

    So do we start pruning off the first leaves and males when we have about 10 leaves? Or do we do it sooner? I’m growing watermelons and haven’t had the best yield. My pumpkins never grow, maybe one female and it always falls off when it’s about 1”. Hoping this helps!

      Definitely prune when you have about 10 leaves... The other thing you have to watch is your water. Try to stick with a water schedule.. , do not water too much or too little ... Also I recommend adding fertilizer every 2 to 3 weeks ... Pumpkin plants need more water and fertilizer cuz it's a bigger plant... You got this ! 🌱

      Thank you , so I use home compost, but getting one soon may be a bone meal ,or organic garden tone ..

    Do I have to cut off the first WATERMELON that grows??

    • @Greentgarden
      @Greentgarden  11 месяцев назад

      Nope ! I wouldn't do that , depending on the type of the variety, some watermelon plant. The plants would only produce about 2 to 4 watermelons so you do not want to take a chance to lose one..

    Will this work for cucumbers too? I get one female for every 30 or so male flowers.

      Yes .. I would also increase the fertilizer... You have to keep the plant healthy

    My pumpkins and ayote green squash keep "aborting" it's females shortly after pollination or even before the bud even opens. Is this because of the crazy heat? In the high 90° low 100°

      So sorry to hear and yes With that type of temperature it will stress out the plant..
      The plant normally will try to stay alive. Stay hydrated so this could cause a lot of problem..
      Just increase your fertilizer and keep fertilizer every 2 week. Keep watering in the morning or the afternoon and you want to water everyday lightly to keep the plants hydrated..
      Hopefully the weather gets better and it gets better. It will start to produce more for you..
      Happy gardening 🌱

      @@Greentgarden thank you so much for responding and the advice. It's kinda heartbreaking but I will follow your advice. I have been using Fox farm and doing it every other day with watering. 🤞🏻 Best wishes to you and yours

    i have a plant and the female squash dies , they get yellow and fell off , can you tell why?

    • @Greentgarden
      @Greentgarden  18 дней назад +1

      Sorry to hear that but it means the plant is under stress..
      Try to increase the calcium. Lack of calcium could cause this problem..
      The other problem will be you're watering either your watering too much or you're not watering enough..
      Try to water every 1 to 2 days. Lightly hold the hose. Maybe 15 to 20 seconds only.
      Also make sure you're increasing the fertilizer and keep reapplying every 2 to 3 weeks. The squash plants are big plants that need to be fed well...

    Another tip. Dont prune lower leaves or shoots before the first male flower. Did that and had more females than male.

    My problem is the opposite. I have like 8 females and zero male flowers. How do I get more males?

    • @Greentgarden
      @Greentgarden  Год назад

      So if you have any other plants like squash, zucchini, pumpkins, you could take pollen from the male flowers and apply it to these female cross pollination , and I will definitely do a light pruning
