Nitro is right - it can't be used inside or at either of the poles: you need line of sight to the satellite in geostationary orbit above the equator to use it.
Data is much less expensive than $5 per MB but it depends on what plan you subscribe to. You can get 10MB for $10 on an airline which uses Inmarsat kit and that allows for their mark up too.
That is the Explorer 500 (now its the upgraded to 510) which he is showing which gives a download of up to 464 kbps for standard IP and can do 128 kbps streaming. Found most of this in their website!

What model of BGAN Terminal was that he put on the hood. Model Number?. What was the "standard handset" that he mentioned ? Make? Model?
Opera might save you data with Turbo.
Their website says it's like $2500, and you'd probably have to pay per MB as well.

Inmarsat probably only has 30 billionaires and 1,000 millonaires who use their sats for phone calls and internet when they're in the middle of nowhere. They charge about $12 U.S. dollars per MB used. Why don't they make it $100 for 100 GB and get 200 million customers instead of just 1,030 customers?
