Shame you missed Whitley Bay station!! It's got one of my favourite watering holes up here, the Ticket Office. Lovely folk who work there, can play board games while you wait, and occasionally catch some live music!
i will answer some questions that you asked in the video as i am local to the area. -the reason why there is a Station Road but no station there is because formerly, there actually used to be a station located under the road, named Backworth, it Closed in 1977, and a new station near the site wasnt opened until 2005. -Haymarket's Platform 2 is so long because, originally, it was planned that the trains would be 3 units long, but due to financial constraints, it was decided that the trains would run in Single or Double units opposed to the original Triple Unit operation that was planned.
The reason Haymarket is soo long as it used to be a terminus platform when the system opened and could hold a second train. The stations have an extra cut out each end underground ontop of this for the original 3metrocar length plans.
@@rafedragonwolf5105 thats not true, Platform 1 was the Terminus Platform, then trains would run to the Monument Crossover before heading into the Long Platform 2
Fun fact: this fleet is still the original fleet! They're planning on bringing in a new fleet next year, they were planned to have the fiest couple enter service this winter but... Apparently they didn't consider the dact that they need to train the drivers how to drive the mew trains...
Shame you missed out Wallsend with its Latin signs. Haymarket is long because it was a built as a “demonstrator station” before the rest of the system, in order to evaluate the design. The rest of the system was built with shorter platforms because of the costs.
brilliant i used the Tyne & Wear Metro when i was holidaying up in Newcastle last year its a brilliant network i love Tynemouth station as its a lovely station and i love the 80s retro feel on the underground station keep up the awesome work
I kinda enjoyed living in Newcastle metro was usually on time never full overall a pleasant experience and for £6 (at the time) you could get an all rounder ticket that you can use in tyne n wear area on anything metro/trains/busses/ferry(from south to north shields) it was great
Can’t wait to see the new Class 555 Tyne and Wear Metro trains coming into service from next year. I never been on the Tyne and Wear Metro but I would love to go on it before the new trains do enter service next year.
@@andrewphippsphillips1455 hope you don’t mind me asking, I’m going on the ferry from South Shields to North Shields in a few weeks, why is it a lot of work?
Glad to see you finally doing the Tyne and Wear metro! When I visited Newcastle in October last year, I loved it! It’ll be interesting to see what you think of the new Class 555. They have a similar exterior to the Class 777, but they’re different on the inside. Anyways, extremely well-presented video as always!
Glad to see you finally made it to the Tyne and Wear Metro, I had a ride on it at the end of last August and I can safely say it's a good metro system. :)
@ 1:33 When you got off at walkergate, if you had turned left and went into the industrial estate behind the station, you would have found 2 brewery/taproom/street food vendors. (One of which was on an episode of the hairy bikers). An arcade/fun shack place. And various media offices.
By coincidence I visited Newcastle a month ago and decided to take a Metro without a particular destination in mind. I also ended up getting off at Northumberland Park
Indirectly replaced it. They didn't build one originally as Shiremoor would do but then built Northl Park in 2005 because someone decided to build a few houses there.
did you know a tv program that was made by tyne tees called supergran was made in tynemouth and i still got to the market at tynemouth station even before the tyne and wear metro started when it was british rail running dmu's 101's
There are so many light rails called metro out there to name a few (metrolink) but the tyne and wear metro is the only full metro that brands itself rather hilariously as a modern light rail.
northumberland park metro station is built on the same site where the british rail station called backworth railyway station used to stand this is why in the video he pointed to the sign station road
Northumnerland park will have a BR station when the Blyth and Tyne opens as the Northumberland line between this year and 2026 but they are making fairly good progress the idea is to merge train times with metro and tickets so time will tell if it all works! Though I am fairly sure there would have been a station there many moons ago though before long iroically there'll be one again!
Thing with the tickets is that they may seem cheap, but that's how the metro can make money. I once forgot my pop card and spent an extra £3.70 on the ticket. Its only really good value if you use it a lot as a visitor like yourself.
Have you ever done the York Tube line? Or do they even have one? I just recently found out (through genealogy) that I'm a Yorkshire girl! Would be awesome to see where I may have long lost family
Big missed opportunity, you should have used the Metro to see the name sake rivers. Also next time you should go to Monument, it has some cool history, like how the Metro saved the monument the station is named for.
There are new metro trains on the way which will improve accessibility. You’ll need to visit the . So jealous, every time I’ve tried to visit they can’t get the wheelchair ramps out
@@Macrowa they have a mobile unit that goes to stations to provide ramps. Majority although say step free, this doesn't mean wheelchair accessible. Many stations the train is higher than. The platform of the gap is too wide. Calling the mobile unit to get access is hit-and-miss.
The Metro is brilliant for what it is but its such a shame that the cross-North-Tyneside line isn't there (although the Test Track is part of the George Stephenson Railway Museum) & ends near Percy Main. Arguably the Metro should have used the old Tyne Electrics layout with updated signals etc. A bit like MerseyRail seems to do. Gateshead station when taken in the round of the former architecture of the area is far more understandable than it looks on its own. Brutalist magnificence.
You pick a number and end up in the dodgiest area of Newcastle. Shame you had to wait 19 minutes. They *should* be every 12 minutes or so but now breakdowns are becoming all too common. Note to self: Make sure there's no Tesco pain au chocolat pastry on your lip before pressing the record button..
@Nick Badley I think you should do a pointless journey from Farringdon Tube station to Farringdon national rail station
Honestly didn't see it until I saw this comment 2 min in and went back to the beginning to see what I missed 😅
Once seen can't be unseen! 😂😂😂

There's some places on the Tyne & Wear Metro that I would be inclined to avoid in daylight, let alone at night
Meadowell has no meadows and no wells . . . .
Fun fact, a new station is currently being built at northumberland park to accomodate the new blyth and tyne railway.
To accomodate the northumberland line its officially called, however i see why people call it the B&T due to it being used in parts.
Glad you finally got the Tyne and Wear Metro ticked off, great video and Tynemouth is a beautiful station.
Station road at Northumberland park did lead to a station (Backworth), which closed in 1977

Something you should give a go next time is the Shields Ferry as it is valid with your day saver ticket and can be quite an interesting experience
