    This brilliant video should be treated with caution as following the advice that it contains has improved my mix ten-fold, and the results have instantly gone to my head. I almost feel like calling myself a mastering engineer which I patently am not. Cheers Yoad!

    This is so so gold. It has changed my entire life after this honestly. I learnt proper mastering from here, and after this, suddenly everything has become magical. i knew what was going wrong, it was just the final master. My tracks lacked the right mastering. This is incredible and you are genius. Just so so thankful for sharing your knowledge. Sir. Regards. Best. Ratna.

    For me the best I could accuaried from this video is "Mastering is not mixing" in other words that applies to, don't expect miracles in the mastering process if your mix is badly done.

    • @renevangeenen

      And that is where it goes wrong I think. Sometimes in the dance industry you have to deal with poor mixes and then it's your duty to make the best out of it!

    It makes a noise, like a distortion sound but, it is very subtle and it is produced by all instruments and makes them sound like one, like one harmonious instrument, warm and wide. You can hear it if you concentrate your ear focus. Like a little bit of overload and it last like one second or less.

    GREAT VIDEO!! Question: Why would we want to get "a little bit of clipping on the A to D" ?? Isn't clipping in digital audio bad? Why would we want to clip anything? He says in the video that he did that because he wanted to "get an extra .5 db of level" at 2:50. But then the first plugin he uses specifically to lower the overall gain to get more headroom... which, correct me if i'm wrong, defeats the purpose of having the extra .5 db of level to begin with... right? What am I missing? Is it just that he wanted to get the most sound possible from the neve console badly enough that he was willing to sacrifice the possibility of clipping to get that maximum Neve tone? Anybody have any insight here? thanks in advance. I love this video.

    • @JimijaymesProductions
      @JimijaymesProductions 9 лет назад +4

      He clips it giving him .5 db more because it has clipped .5db at the top meaning the waveform is smaller kinda like hard limiting but different. Not a fan of clipping myself rather have a quieter song then clipping.

    • @samuelzanini5902
      @samuelzanini5902 9 лет назад

      ***** Yep, you're right, the clipping is limited to only a few samples, as he shows, so you can't feel it, but it has some kind of "impact" when the song is mastered (at least i think so, otherwise it would be any useful for him to slightly clip the song)

    • @ThomasPrimeCCR
      @ThomasPrimeCCR 9 лет назад +1

      goldensleeves Hey I may be wrong but it makes more sense at around 17:00 when he's applying the limiters. By clipping or flattening off the edges when recording the audio from the desk, he's still able to use that .5db gain at the end, even after reducing the gain for headroom because the parts are now flatter so it takes .5db longer for the limiter to react and start working, so in turn should then give you an extra half a db gain overall.

    • @Chobed
      @Chobed 7 лет назад +10

    At first you needs the clean mix, that's holly true. If you have just minimal errors or imperfections when you mixing and then comes to master it, it will just multiply these things. Now if your it's clean, you can start working on it, people starting their chains with EQing to make needed cuts. On that I used to insert some bass mastering plugin to right set the bass. There is some nice plugins from PSP guys, and it works fine with your tunes, to go futher you can adjust the parrameters to your actual bass frequencies not simply use the default ones, and it's very strong plugin, if your track have lack on the bass on the the sub, you can use saturator to add some color, and it will sounds more professional and bring particular focus to your low end. Next one I like to use is Multiband dynamics. This one will brings you needed effect in the way of get the track together and bring nice density to it, there are tons of multiband plugins on the software basis, but some are really amazing but you must be aware and pay attention f.ex. to not remove nice highs and let the low end play more than rest of the track. Next one that could be possible used is opto compression or / passive EQing. If your track sounds more "hyperactive" try to play with Opto, and it will brings you needed results. On the other side - If you track is bit dark and needs more life to it, try use mentioned Passive EQ. This one is really nice choice and you will never regret it when it comes to final processing. This rack of plugs maybe sounds bit over-processed but you could maybe need exciting and imaging for you. It will show you how your track could be ornated. Last one is limiter but it knows everybody, you must find that one which will not removes your peaks if you don' wish to, but you need to make good compromise. If you are interested in mastering service for few bucks, feel free to contact me on fiverr: www.fiverr.com/topmastering

    Yoad Nevo This video is GENIUS, lol, great Video... 26 years of experience. One question though, do you use stereo widening on your masters?

    • @HenryMusic255
      @HenryMusic255 9 лет назад

      DamageIncM Well, specifically, I mean if producers use it in general, lol.. Do you produce, & if so, do you use stereo widening in your masters?

    • @HenryMusic255
      @HenryMusic255 9 лет назад +1

      DamageIncM Thanks alot bro. Btw, what stereo widening plugins would you recommend, or is it safer just to widen using panning at the mixing stage? Also have you ever tried mastering in surround (like Dolby 5.1)?
      I think videos like this are important in sharing knowledge. Especially as you said, 'Don't restrict yourself to the rules'.. I've been hearing 'make sure u dither' for years & in this vid Nevo said, the waves analog plugins' hum/hiss noise takes care of that, so he exports with dither off, lol.. I tried a master with dither off it actually sounds better..

    • @djGreenALERT
      @djGreenALERT 9 лет назад

      YOHAN HENRY MUSiQ Sorry to butt into the middle of a conversation, but if you are still looking for a stereo widener (also will mono below frequencies you choose) try the bx_Control from Brainworx. it's not cheap, but you can try it free for 14 days here:-
      www.plugin-alliance.com/en/products/bx_control_v2.html.
      I use it on almost every dance track I Master. (and whenever any track needs widening for that matter)
      I just use the mono-master control to select what I want as mono (usually around 70hz / 100hz)
      and the stereo-width control between 125 and 135
      and that's it.

    • @HenryMusic255
      @HenryMusic255 9 лет назад

      ***** kool bro, thanks alot for the info, I'll definitely check it out..
      Btw, Do you do dance/pop vocals, if so do u know how they get the sharp, bright sort of phased voice tone (I also hear it in Chris Brown songs)?

    • @HenryMusic255
      @HenryMusic255 9 лет назад

      +MBar Music yes, I actually used to only use ozone strictly, but it sounded pretty digital especially when pushed hard... But I find I can get a better sound using waves emulations of analog units like the cla, & limit using the L3..
      I'll try putting ozone's widener in my mastering chain, hopefully it can add that extra uumph, lol..
      Thanks for the advice..
