Honestly, this is one of the coolest things I've heard young men create! I felt years ago when I first saw this that this was really the highlight of the whole program (this, and seeing scouts come into the conference center on Ziplines!). Seriously, I think this was really well-done! As a mom of an Eagle, I really appreciated it!
Mom was a Den Mother when I was a Cub Scout and continued. Can't count the times she would drive us to loations to get a merit badge in some nature related badge. Don't know how many times she sewed merit badges on my sash and uniforms. Became an Eagle about 65 years ago and never would have made it with out her. She was the wind beneath my Eagle wings.
I heard this song a few years ago and since then planned on sending it to my momma. I finished my project tonight and sent it to her. Board is in the next month or so. Depends on football season
Last night we held a joint court of honor with two other LDS Troops. Four Eagle Scouts were recognized. My son noted that all eight parents were either in uniform or had a Scout uniform; he understood that yes, he did all the work to become an Eagle (including starting Personal Fitness every year for five years!), but his accomplishment came because both of his parents understood the importance of it and sacrificed time and energy to help him make it happen. No boy ever truly accomplishes it on his own; that's not what it is designed to be. We watched this program when it originally aired and this song has been a running joke in our family. During the final moments of last night's celebration I was whistling it to myself... and one of the other moms sent it to me this morning. Happy memories.
My DAD, Allen Peterson, earned his Eagle twice, once when the gave the Badge to me his son Don and the other when they gave the Badge to my brother Craig!! and was the proudest father in Franklin Park, Illinois for 60 years!!
My dad is a eagle scout and I'm in the same troop that he was in and i am on my way to getting my eagle i am second class and I'm in troop 75 of hendersonville Tennessee
I thought this was a great song idea because in our troop, it was the moms figuratively kicking the scouts in the butt to keep at it, stay motivated, but the boys still had to do the work. I didn't realize this was an LDS event....but I didn't appreciate the "Eagle Mill" comment either. Yeah, our troup proudly boasts that pretty much every scout has made Eagle because we're supportive of the boys and this is a major first step to success. Yeah, I also know a few get by with some simple projects mostly because of money issues but if there's a "mill" which I assume means the parents are doing all the work, that's unconscionable.
Google "LDS Mormon Eagle Mill". Very few Mormons have really "earned" their eagle. It's really not a secret, most of the scouting world knows it... but them.
Roger MacDonald yup. I can honestly say the only reason I actually did a real project is because my parents pushed me to do a bigger project. I hate being in an LDS troop. Venture crew all the wasy
As an Eagle Scout myself, I can attest to the fact that families make earning Eagle possible.
