All song information below: Chariot Chariot was the first track I ever released. It was written about my partner, Nikki, a month after we first met. Skipping forward 7 years, we now have a son & a house together. Even after such a long period of time, people still request Chariot frequently at shows. I honestly don't think it's a song that'll ever grow old. A few months before, my mum asked me to write a song to sing at their reception. Even though I’d tried for months, I couldn’t seem to come up with anything convincing. Everything I wrote seemed cliche & forced. That was until four days before the wedding where ‘I Belong To You’ emerged out of nowhere. The sentimental value of this song is still potent to me, & seems to be potent for others, as it’s almost hit 100 million views on RUclips. Still hard to fathom. Demons (Philosophical Sessions) The song which started it all. ‘Demons’ is a track I wrote in my father's garage about an unfortunate case of betrayal. Being my second most popular song I get asked pretty often what provoked the story, & whether I was in a healthy mindset at the time. I was, although it’s sad to see so many people relating to a song with such a dark narrative. I’d say the creation of this song came down to a mixture of three things: empathy, imagination & the digestion of past experiences. Cursed (Philosophical Sessions) ‘Cursed’ is a song about Schizophrenia. Which is odd because I had no intention to write about such things when I sat with my guitar that day. My intention was to write about the mind & accompany it with a blues style chord progression. The subject matter that followed was unexpected, although I’m glad it happened, as this is one track I regularly hear people discussing after my shows. It’s a song which can be interpreted in a multitude of ways, & I think it hits a little harder than most other songs of mine. Breadcrumbs Breadcrumbs was written from the perspective of a young boy or girl who's been kidnapped. It's arguably the saddest song I've ever written, though has still resonated with millions of people under different interpretations. Sorrow This is a close one to me. I wrote it after the most significant breakup I’ve ever been through. I remember sitting in my old bedroom trying to come up with something a few days after the split, though everything felt too raw & I was unable to properly articulate my thoughts. 3 months later, as my subconscious digested the experience, I was able to place the entire experience into a song. It helped - though it wasn't enough, so I went & wrote my Sorrow poem which we filmed & released on RUclips You Were Right The most conversational song off my most recent EP, ‘No Longer Hollow’. This track asks questions to an ex lover without actually wanting to know the answers. It expands upon that odd broken-hearted paradox of desperately wanting information whilst immediately wishing you never asked for it. This song is a representation of that experience. Reality I often find when I travel alone I get pretty introspective. I was traveling through the US at the time, stationed in LA to meet a potential artist for Philosophical Records. I was reading the Bhagavad Gita, & like the scripture does for most, it put me in a surprisingly deep & reflective mindset. As I waited for the artist, I sat by myself on his couch with my acoustic guitar & conjured up the first verse. It was immediate: I loved the direction, the calm melodies & the content of the lyrics, & so I slowly finalized it throughout the remainder of my travels. Originally, ‘Reality’ had 11 verses & no chorus. It was only once I jumped in the studio back in Australia that we made it more concise so it was palatable for a wider audience. Break My Heart Again (Acoustic) This is one of the only songs I’d ever written for myself in a scheduled co-writing session. I was sitting on a super yacht with an inspiring man who’d accomplished quite a lot in life. The environment, landscape & inspiring conversation pushed us to develop this track, & I’m relieved to say I no longer have to keep it a secret from the world. ‘Break My Heart Again’ is also the first single of my third studio album. Only a select number of people have heard the fully produced version which will be released early 2022. With You This song was written just before ‘I Belong To You’, as an attempt at my brother's wedding song. It begins with the line “I’d travel the world with you, ‘cause I know where you’d go”, which is derived from their never-ending desire to travel. As I continued writing however, the song naturally shifted to touch on advice I’d give to a daughter of mine. At the time of writing I didn’t have children, so I’m uncertain as to why or how this topic arrived. Though just like ‘Cursed’ I’m glad it did. As now those who have young daughters can relate to this & potentially create memories with it Nevermind I’ve quite recently brought this song back to life. I sing it in Twitter Spaces most days for those suffering from mental health issues. I originally wrote ‘Nevermind’ for a friend of a friend who was going through depression. I never actually told her it was written about her as I didn’t want her to feel exposed. Even so, I sang it for her, & I’m glad to say I believe it provided solace for her that day. one most talented musicians on earth Jacob Lee
His voice is like a cold breeze that hits you in a spring morning. It makes my heart ache.
That's such a great analogy, and I 💯 agree - it's crisp with this undertone of mellow warmth: like dreaming with your eyes open and mind aware. 🙂❤
I belong to you and Demons are my favorites tracks. Grettings from Buenos Aires - Argentina ❤️
Estoy de acuerdo contigo. Son las mejores. Yo las escucho con los ojos cerrados, y siento como si flotara.
Beautiful music 🎶takes me some where far away. My soul is calm 😌
What a beautiful song you can hear the kindness and humility in the vocals ~~♡
