Eva takes us on a journey with this tune where Cyndi Lauper could not. We are a participant and not just a listener. So many emotions and energy and softness - all captured into her voice. My most favorite female singer - ever.
One of my favorite vocalists and voices. Her rendition of Fields of Gold elevated that song, for me, from "I really like this" to "this is one of my all-time favorites." I always get what can best be described as a comfortable melancholy from her music due to her passing so tragically young. Karen Carpenter makes me feel the same way.
I thought no one could match Cyndi Lauper singing 'Time After Time', until I heard Eva Cassidy sing it. She makes this song her own with sadness and despair. Cyndi would be so pleased and amazed to hear Eva sing this
When I need to explain to somebody what phrasing is all about, I just point them to Eva Cassidy. She was an artistic genius with incredible musical intelligence.
In these videos I always thought that she had a absolutely masterful realisation of how far away she was from the microphone, constantly changing it versus how loud she was singing. Like, within millimetres. It's like she's balancing the sound in real-time, doing the post production at the same time as playing and singing.
Thank you, Nina. I have all her CDs and videos in my library but still have a hard time putting them on because it always breaks my heart. It was so unfair that she was taken away from us so soon.
I am blessed after listening the last three hours of reaction videos of Eva Cassidy. I had never heard of her before tonight. So sad she passed so young and already 27 years ago. Believe me when I say God has perfect timing. When I heard she died of cancer. She had apparently had more than one surgeries to remove it, but finally lost her battle. Why this touches me is that I will be going to the Tampa VA Dermatologist in the morning to have day surgery to have a sore on my back that tested positive for cancer. They only need to numb it to remove it and hopefully it won't be very deep and they will get it all. In and out in an hour. But the Lord has blessed me with an evening of her singing and guitar playing that has blessed me so. Thankyou for this reaction
I would like only to point out - Eva is actually performing LIVE and accompanying HERSELF on guitar --- a very competent player - and not studio worked out rendition or more common - a final copy in the studio being lip synced in a video .... this is important as she is so phenomenally gifted in vocal ability, control, natural quality to her gorgeous vibrato in hushed or power pushed for effect - just no one near her God given talent ! Not then (1990s recorded material ) or even since .... that's how good she was !!! GBjj
I always loved this song, thanks for analysing it! I'm always amazed that Eva actually had a cold during the recording of this session and almost cancelled it... so glad she didn't ❤
Well done, Nina, spot-on analysis. One of the things to check out with Eva is how she often alters the lyrics of the original that she is covering. In this song, she quite changes an important line. Eva sings "I'm wondering if you're OK"; the original line from the Cyndi Lauper hit is: "You're wondering if I'm OK". Quite an alteration! Eva does this a lot, and a songwriter might not much want someone to change their creation; but Eva was a stubborn person and did things her own way! Thanks again for your work.
there's actually a documentary on RUclips about this live session. It was her best performance. She passed away less than a year after. If you have the chance, check out the full set also on RUclips. Her performance of Autumn Leaves at this show is my favorite of hers.
Very enjoyable reaction and commentary. I don't know if you are familiar with Angelina Jordan but she and Eva are my two favorite female vocalists. Eva has a timeless voice and so does Angelina in a different way. Angelina has an incredible history and is still only 16 years old, as she began singing at 1 and 1/2! She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only seven! She can sing any genre but her normal wheelhouse is jazz and the classics, even at that young age. Here is a link to Angelina's young years and you can decide if you'd like to react. All I can say is that it is a deep rabbit hole from which you will never want to escape! There are almost 200 performances online.ruclips.net/video/jE6x9V8Cnyw/видео.html

Adore Eva. What a sad loss.
Even the thousandth time, it's stunningly beautiful.

Try Friends of Carlotta version of it
For me, listening to whatever song Eva Cassidy covered, it was like hearing it again for the first time.

❤️❤️❤️Eva Cassidy. More of her please. Fields of Gold or Over the Rainbow would be good...

OMG! I did not expect to see Eva Cassidy on your channel. She left us too soon but left us her heart and soul in her music
A breathtakingly beautiful cover of the song as usual by the songbird, Eva Cassidy.
Eva was an angel singer.
😢🙏⚘️🌹🕊

This performance was 1 year to the date she passed on, it was all her soul, talent and strength she displayed to us all.
I’m glad I found this. Loving her was a tragedy. Her cover of Time After Time is a top 5 song all time for me

Many thanks - took the liberty of tweeted this #evacassidy_talk
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your support 😊

Excellent reaction!
Thank you for this reaction.
a great reaction/analysis--hearing about your grandmother is so touching and if you react to fields of gold i'm HERE for ya buddy!
Eva Cassidy.., i want her rendition of “Autumn Leaves”, it’s so emotional and unique to others cover..,❤️❤️❤️❤️🇵🇭
Eva had a cold the nights she did the live recording. She wanted to trash "Over The Rainbow", but the band objected! She was a perfectionist.

She was a vocal acrobat.
Are we even?!……Thank you Nina…☺
Would respectfully request a reaction to Eva’s Danny Boy or People Get Ready. Thank you.
how can you sound this good playing live in a blues club with just a guitar for company.....
Don't know her but man I miss her.
Have you seen Prison Break? Because your surname was made famous by that TV show! 😅
I’m not sure the creator knows the story behind the performance.
Eva no need of idiopathic linguistic gymnastics ....pure
