    If your thinking of buying cymbals, don't base ur decision off what "sounds good" on RUclips, cymbals sounds so different (usually sound better) when recorded through mics, put through eq and preamps etc.
    Also coop3rdrumm3r is endorsed by zildjian, he's never going to say anything bad about their cymbals even the z series which, anyone else will tell you sounds cheap

The only downside is the hihats which when closed tightly can sound a bit like they are made of plastic. But if you open them up ever so slightly, they sizzle so much better.

    • @metalliclark86
      @metalliclark86 6 месяцев назад +2

      Good information. For any beginner on a budget reading this, if you don't know whether drumming is for you but still wanna give it a try, go for planet z or any other brass cymbal. Now, if drumming is your passion, go for I series or any other B8 alloy pack and you'll be happy either rehearsing by yourself, with a band or live, since B8 is the point where cymbals start to feel musical. If you know you want to keep playing for years to come, go for S series or any other b10-b12 alloy, this will get you as much musicality as your wallet can handle with not much really to envy higher end stuff, given that premium cymbals are made out of b20 alloy and it does cost premium lol
      It's not necessary for you to buy everything at once, it's not necessary for you to buy brand new stuff, you can browse secondary hand market and keep upgrading as your interest and wallet allow it, besides if you take care of your gear you can still sell it and keep funding the next best thing. This comes from somebody who grew up playing brass cymbals, the first time i got to play B8 alloy cymbals it was like I was an endorsed rockstar lol. That step is perhaps the most noticeable in terms of quality, going higher is mostly for finer tuning and reliability of the materials.

    I just bought the S series and have been playing with it for a month now. I'm still not happy with it I thought it's lacking something until I got to my Guitar Center store and found both I and S series next to each other. Tried both like 5 times to make sure my opinion was steady and I was surprised, the I series sounded way better to me and was even shocked it was like $150 cheaper! Today I'm heading back to GC and will replace my whole S series with the I series pack. I've seen lots of S series vids on RUclips and I thought you should personally check them out and hear them up close. Not only each person's hearing and preference is different but it also makes a huge difference hearing them up close vs on RUclips.

    To my ears, the S sounded the best. I didn't think the Z crash projected very well. The I sounded pretty good, too, but my favorite is the S series. I play mostly K Sweets, and the S sound like they'd sit nicely in that group. If I were on an extreme budget or just starting out, however, I'd still play the Z series. The tones were good, just didn't project like the others. Thanks for another great vid, and for shining light on budget products!

    The crash from the "i" series and the hats & ride on the "s" are definitely my favorites. The ride from the "i" series might be good as more of a crash/ride, but there's not much cut with the bell.
    And I have to say it... I don't like the sound of brass cymbals 98% of the time. They're too flat sounding and have a different tone during sustain that doesn't cut very well and just doesn't have that "pop" like bronze cymbals. I took my first cymbals (a set of Meinl HCS) and modified them all for different uses. Like, I sanded the 20" ride, used some laquer on the top side to deaden some of the lathe grooves, sanded it again, and put some foil tape on the bottom side near the bell. It has a nice, poppy ping to it, is VERY dry, but is definitely a much different sound compared to my 20" A-custom. The other brass cymbals are pretty much all in stacks. I'll occasionally use one of the brass cymbals as my bottom hat, but that's about it.
    The thing about cymbals is that there aren't necessarily any "bad" sounding cymbals, just "different." It's really subjective. But honestly, most people have a similar taste. And it is highly dependent on other factors. It depends on your space, style, mic (or natural) setup, dynamics, and several little variables.
    At one point, I was willing and able to spend good money on good cymbals. There's just something different when you play a polished turd and a professional-level instrument. But it all comes down to your taste. Would I go out and drop another $700+ on a cymbal set in the near future? No. So if I get the desire for more versatility, I'll want to look at the more economical options like these.

    Looking into a drum set, one on the short list, is the Ludwig Element Evolution set that has the i series cymbals with it... almost think I like them more than what the S series sounded like, with exception of POSSIBLY the S series Hi-Hats....
    Maybe eventually some better heads and hats would be the most sensible upgrade to take a beginner kit further.
    This kit will be for myself, as well as the kids , so don't want stuff I'd be afraid to let them play as well.
    Thoughts?

    to anyone looking for budget cymbals, i would also recommend the Zildjian ZBTs, altho they're aren't on the list. i got hi hats, 2 crashes and a ride for £250 (about $275-$280) and i really like playing them. The ride is more pingy and less washy, but if u like that, it's great

      The ZBTs were just replaced by the i series which is why I didn’t include them.

    Best is the I series in my opinion. But I’m not giving up my A’s & K’s any time soon! Lovin my cymbals

      Certainly not suggesting anyone switch to any of these over A’s or K’s, just showing what each series sounds like for those who want to buy new cymbals but don’t know what they sound like and don’t have a higher budget.

    Man new ZBTs/I series sound so bad but when they dry up, lose their shine, and start to patina, they can rival K custom darks. My decade old ZBTs sound nice even when they're all banged up

    For the price of the Zildjian S Series you can get real professional cymbals from Istanbul Agop: the Xist Series. I would compare them with the Zildjians A's).
    If you are in the market for good value cymbals search for Diril, Istanbul, Aegan, Anatolian and other turkish brands. The Wuhans from China are good as well.

    Do what you gotta do to set a budget and save cause in the long run, getting a decent set of cymbals is the way to go cause you’ll appreciate the sound in the long run, not only for gigs but especially in a studio

    I think,why i should throw my money for A customs when i can get really BRUTAL cymbals from Zildjian S series. It's perfect for heavy kind of music like metal and rock. I have Zildjian S series 16" medium heavy rock crash and medium heavy 18" rock crash..it sounds amazing! For the price of 120 and 150 dollars i can get S series cymbals for affordable price. Now i save money for 20" medium heavy rock ride and 14" mastersound hi hats.

    Cool video the S series sounded the best in the group. I'm in the mindset you could find much higher quality used cymbals rather then shelling out $350 - 450 for these packs ( i know planet z's are way cheaper but those were rough). That would be a cool video idea. not sure if Zildjian would approve of that though :P

    • @COOP3RDRUMM3R
      @COOP3RDRUMM3R  4 года назад

      Yes, buying higher level cymbals used is always a great option, but if you’re going to buy new cymbals and want to hear how they each sound, that’s what this video is about. Most people don’t ever get to hear them side by side before making a decision!

    • @Zildjian242

      @@COOP3RDRUMM3R Gotcha man. Thanks for the reply. It's great that you posted something like this. I still stand behind going used over these. Though if you have a kid unsure drums are right for him, planet z or any cheap alternative is a great idea. It's been proven any cheap drum kit can sound great (you have multiple videos of this), cheap cymbals don't have that luxury.

    The planet z 16” crash sounds like a meinl HCS 16” crash, but the ride sounds ok and the hi hat sounds amazing. The Zildjian I series sounds amazing the 1st place cymbals I ever heard the crash and ride sounds amazing Evan hi hats too. The zildjian S sounds ok, but the ride and crash sounds annoying, except the hi hat it sounds fire like omg what did I just hear.

    I just bought a not really a drum set but a not toms but drum heads, a very flat bass drum and a piccolo like snare drum. It's the Traps Drums A400 and for it's size and cheap look I can't believe it cost $800. But I need cymbals that won't break me till I can buy a real drum set

    So I joined a band a couple months ago and soon we’ll start doing gigs once corona dies down. I need some good cymbals that are good for live gigs and possible studio recordings but I’m not sure what to get. Tried to get cymbals for very cheap and ended up buying Meinl HCS series, which sounds like a toy. Anybody know what kind of cymbal I should get?

    I recently got a mapex tornado, and the cymbals, are....well close to paper quality. Since christmas is coming up but I dont want to ask for too expensive cymbals, Im looking for cheap cymbal sets, and from what I have seen Im leaning towards upgrading to the I series, Any other options I should consider?
