- Leon Bridges’ debut album came out of nowhere with a distinctive retro sound that won him a massive following. His ambitious follow up, Good Thing, shows a whole new side of him. While in town for a sold out show at the Greek Theatre, Leon Bridges played a live set at Apogee studio

Rhythm section killing it
Came for Benson/Montgomery-esque solo.......and cried
Same
Leon Bridges is writing so many good ones 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Lol what was that guitar solo. Needed the jazz freak out one
Agreed
The rest of the band was setting it up so right, lol. Bro! Come on!
Yes. I kept thinking he was about to get busy
this band.....
best freaking song in so long. I don't know. but, let me slip through. aight. I made a good good thing outta bad bad news. Damn. freaking awesome.
LOVE this song!!!!
So groovin. Nice to hear something from this talent
This is a pure example of how a solo can lift up/ruin a perfect tune. hands down
That was bad on so many levels. My lead playing is better and I’m not very good. The solo on his record is bad ass though.
@@crespo1965 I guess you can say it was bad bad ass
yeah the solo on the record absolutely makes the song. Serious jazz chops. This one... well... it just didn't go anywhere...
Sounded like one of those Ramones solo...
Worst jazz solo ever!
The guitarist in the video is Kenny Wayne Hollingsworth, who played on Leon's first album. The first album has a pure blues sound. The second album moved towards jazz, produced by Nate Mercereau. So Nate played the jazz solo we know and love, and Kenny the blues guy, couldn't quite adjust to jazz... as we see here.
OR they just needed a guitarist last minute and the local small town guitar teacher just jumped in to help out.
The solo aint even good blues or rock tho lol
That's an interesting observation! It sounds like the transition between Leon's first and second albums brought some notable changes in the musical style and personnel. The shift from a pure blues sound to a more jazz-influenced direction likely required different skills and expertise. Nate Mercereau's jazz solo is certainly a highlight, and it's understandable that not every guitarist could easily adapt to such a shift in style.
Whether Kenny Wayne Hollingsworth struggled with the jazz elements or they just needed a last-minute guitarist, it adds a unique story to the music. It's fascinating how different musicians contribute to the evolving sound of an artist's work.
Those awesome players on keys and the bass and it's the guy with the guitar that gets the solo...
The drummer was putting down a tight pocket too!
This happen when the producer record the solo
Leon!.....Bridges!
In Lights
All day all night... alright alright.
Man he needs better musicians. Guitarist is just noodling. No jazz to be found anywhere. Keyboards are driving the song. Such a shame
Agreed! The recorded guitar is memorizing! What was that?!
Terrible solo. Especially compared to the record. Jazz/Rock/Soul/R&B, doesn't matter much to me, as long as it is good. I watched this video to see the solo played live ... I was deeply disappointed. To my ears, the guitar sounded out of tune, or he was playing in the wrong key? I don't know.
Yea you can hear the Keyboardist try to save the guitar solo when he noticed he was fkn up the vibe 😂
So talented
Where's Kevin Lincoln ??? Put him back on plz. Good Vibes!! Good Music Choices.......KCRW !!
What the fuck was that solo my guy
bit slow, eh?
Tony Martello it was so slow. Like half of it was off time dude
🔝🔝🔝
I can play that ending guitar solo, so that's not a good thing.
Hahahaha! That was awesome, but be nice to yourself. ;-)
Sorry, but that 4 on the floor drum groove NEEDS to be there....it's missing! That's what gives the song its danceability. Don't get me wrong, drummer was good, but the song just isn't the same without that driving pulse. That's what the bassline sits on. It's the whole backbone of the rhythm of the song.
Yeup I kept listening feeling like something got removed it's like the cherry on top of it all lol
music4life oh my word! Well said!!
W🙌W
Pentatonics nothing else
Whenever I see your man with the beard I know it's not the version I'm looking for
Has lost all of its magic, this live version. Sorry, Leon, I love you to bits, but this one was not what I expected.
Sounds like half the band is missing! What was that guitar solo?! Leon's voice saves it from disaster!
This guitar solo is a major yikes from me dawg. I cant tell if he is intentionally bending the strings out of tune on purpose or he cant tell that his guitar isn't intonated. wtf happened
guitar is so off, even from the beginning. is buddy ok? 😂 the albums solo is so amazing. sigh.
That guitar player should be fired
Que solo horrível no final da música!
Maybe if I buy a hat, grow a beard, with an expensive guitar and an ironically bad tone, I too can become a musician.
No no no, pentatonic no no no
like if you think that guitar solo was a shit!
When you try to sound neo jazz but ..
