    Hello! I hope you had an awesome day! I had a very busy but fun filled day in my sewing room ironing more fabrics and now I get to hand quilt. Thank you for posting your video.

    Thank you! This will sure help with the “loosey goosey” feeling of my Q19 on my Cutie frame. It’s a learning curve, for sure!

    Rice for sure!!! I can’t wait to make one. I currently use heavy pin cushions but this will work so much better, because of the consistency of the weight across the frame.

    Can you show us how you use it? I’d like to see it in action. I’m concerned about losing quilting space.

      I'll be sharing it in action in future videos. How I place it on the frame is shown at the end of the video. Yes, it can reduce your space, but this is an optional tool, meaning you can move it out of your way when needed.

    Hey Leah, I have a hoop frame pro. I’m not really sure how/why this works. I know you mentioned increased accuracy but why does it help with that? 🤷🏼‍♀️ sorry for my ignorance.

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  2 года назад

      Watch to the end and I answer that question! Accuracy means being able to travel stitch, stitch on a marked line, and hit points - basically more control over your quilting design.

      @@LeahDay I saw this, but I don’t understand why it works. Does it stop something from happening and in turn, improves accuracy?

      I think what Leah’s trying to say, is that because the carriage moves so easily, it can be difficult to keep control of it. The weight will help slow down the momentum and make it easier to control when you need to do detail work. I have the q’nique19 on a hoop pro frame and understand exactly what she’s talking about. It took quite awhile before I could control the machine (despite being almost 40lbs!) very well because the momentum caused the machine to get away from me pretty quickly. I actually have to work harder to slow it down! I think the weight is meant to help slow down the machine momentum so you don’t have to work harder to control it.
      Leah can jump in if I’m wrong, but I think that’s what she’s trying to say.

      @@little1942 Thanks! As I was thinking about this, I realized the the weight was sitting on the bed of the machine which should help slow it down. (For some reason, I was having a hard time getting past thinking it was changing the tension of the quilt in the frame and not thinking about it actually affecting the machine.) I have the same setup as you ( only done two quilts so far) and I do have a hard time with the machine getting away from me. I’m going to give this a try.

      I’m glad I could help! Congratulations on getting your longarm too! I haven’t had mine very long either and have four quilts completed. All big lap sizes. With each one, I’m getting better at it and more brave as to the designs. I’m working on my first custom quilted quilt now. Crossing fingers it comes out ok.
      I may try the rice bag trick myself to see if it helps. Good luck.

    Great video. I was wondering what size harp space does the sewing machine have that is on your Cutie frame?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  2 года назад

      This is a Janome 8200 which has an 11 inch harp. On my Hoop Frame Pro, I have around 7 1/2 inches of vertical quilting space. You can pretty much take any machine and subtract 3 1/2 - 4 inches to know how much space you will have when quilting on any style of Hoop Frame (Hoop Frame, Hoop Frame Pro or Cutie).

    I bought a small "Cutie Tabletop Quilting Fabric Frame by Grace Company." I have a tension problem. Can you give a tip on how to correct it? Thanks.

    • @LeahDay

      My best first tip is to slow down. Here's a video on taking your first stitches and it may help you - freemotionproject.com/2019/05/first-stitch-out-on-the-grace-qnique-21-longarm.html

  • @little1942

    I know exactly what you mean, Leah! I have the q’nique 19 on the hoop from pro and could not believe how fast the machine could “get away” from me. I have severe back problems and worried that having a long arm would cause me a lot of problems. Since I can use sitting down, I’ve yet to have it cause me pain. But I sure have to work hard to slow down and keep control of it! That’s not a problem I ever thought I’d have. 😂
    This is an ingenious way to help slow down that machine momentum. Plus, it also makes for a great door or window insulation! 😂

      LOL! Yes, indeed! I found my quilting ability and control dramatically improved when I added weight to my frame. It's now my favorite tool!
