Thank You! It's a little leggy at the moment becuase we have just come out of the low-light of winter and so it has been search for the light but I expect it will really progress well over this summer.
I found mine behind the kitchen curtains I never pull back. I forgot all about it. Very very dry and the pot fell off the roots. Gave it a good soak. Hope the change doesn't harm it.
Well! I bought one of these beasts within the last week and it is going bonkers, it is HUGE already. Am going to have to find out how big this thing can grow to!
I have just started on my third phlebodium in about 7years - a replacement, not an extra! I don't actually mind this cycle of replacement - after all, they aren't expensive to buy and they last better than some other houseplants I could mention. I pot on after a year or so and have little problem with leaf loss. My reason for replacing them is rather that they start getting brown tips to the leaves and, while yours is a good sized specimen, it clearly has that same problem! I always water from the bottom, leaving it in the sink for several hours and then drying it for several hours, but I still get the brown tips. I've never fed them. I might try doing that this time.
Thank you for your video. I keep having problems with my blue star ferns. This is my third attempt. It looked like yours. However I’m loosing leaves a lot are browning and I have some yellowing in the centre. The last two main not yellowed in the centre. However I hadn’t overwatered so I assumed the shop had. This time I’m regularly checking using a watering gauge and trying unsuccessfully to stick my finger in. It always seems to be moist. I’ve moved it away from the radiator and it is indirect sunlight 1.5 metres from a west facing window. I do have the medium weight curtains closed frequently, which gave a diffused light, but now I’m opening them more regularly as I thought that might be the problem. It is getting less light drawing near to winter. I’m in the UK. I am completely confused. I’ve not fertilised it. I can’t see any bugs. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong! Please help if possible. I adore this plant hence me buying it three times. Thank you.
Sorry just read my message again. The last wo there were heaps of yellowing at the centre and the baby fronds just died. This time it’s mainly drying leaves and the young ones are drying. It seems to be moist every time I check withe the gauge. I just listened to this video I thought I had commented on the last one. I will try removing the plant from the pot to see if there is a problem with being pot bound. However it is not the growing season, will it be safe to upsize the pot now? However much should I go up? Thanks.
It sounds like not enough light to me, unlike many others these ferns prefer a brighter location, especially at this time of year, being next to the radiator previously won’t have helped the foliage drying out either, if it’s not getting enough light it won’t be actively growing so the water you’re putting in will just sit there and won’t get used so over time can be over watered too. Find a spot closer to a window ideally at this time of year, don’t water until the soil starts to dry out, if you can’t find a suitable bright location adding a grow light over the top will help a lot. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Andy
Have you ever divided a blue star? I have one in an orchid pot that is shooting leaves out of the sides and need to repot it, but was thinking of dividing off the lower rhizomes so I don't end up burying them, but im so afraid of killing it by doing that! I know its late in the season, but the plant room stays warm year round, so im not too worried about it going dormant after a division
Wow that's gotten huge! Just gorgeous.

They can come back quite well as long as it's not totally dead you should be ok.

Haha, I just bought another one after I've killed too much to mention of them 😭😅😬
Good luck! :-)
