At 2:36 you can see the individual axles of the Flexcoil trucks adjust to the track changes.... this is why the ol' hoggers nicknamed SD9s "Cadillacs"... smooth ride......
Hey Jason, nice job on your post! Always a treat to see your videos. Ya gotta love the sound, the look and the horn on that SD9. Thanks again. You have put Pembine, East Kingsford and Iron Mountain on the map for tourist places for railfans to visit. I gotta get up there soon.
I was in Escanaba last year, the E&LS has a LOT of old stuff in the yard that can be seen from a public parking lot. Most looks like it will never move again under it's own power, was 1221 one of them?
When 1221 has to flex its muscles, it does indeed show its age, with a few puffs of blue exhaust smoke! Its cool that you got to be with some other railfans at the broken pole crossing and other places!
1221 looks just fine coasting along through Amberg and Wausaukee. The Canadian strike will go to mediation to see if they can get something going. Part of the push to put the strike on hold is because a lot of Christmas stuff is on containers coming through British Columbia and several Eastern ports. The road that would have been hit the hardest would have been the Mineral Range as the ores they mine go in covered gondolas to Canada for smelting. Since quite a bit of their locomotives have come via Independent locomotive service they could go back there as they carry some older Mesabi SD9s and possibly some from BNSF. Likewise they have a few more SD40s in their inventory. An excellent Chase on one of those fine weather days and it was nice of the visitors just stand by the Broken pole shrine
The two blasts at yhe diamond were an indication that the train was starting forward after a stop. Some Amtra engineers blow two blasts to acknowledge the conductor's proceed signal or highball.
180 tons. A bit heavier than a GP9, which weighs about 135 tons. The GP9 has 2 axle trucks and 4 traction motors, while the SD9 has 3 axle trucks and 6 traction motors.
Come on Train Engineer Blow The Horn 2 longs,1short,1long those other people Driving over Railroad Crossings should know to Stop, look, listen and Both ways for an on coming Train and act like they know how to Drive a car instead of speeding like there in a hurry for a Hot Date! To explain the guy in bright vest: I think he was fixing the crossing nearby the Braumart and the Depot

Great meeting rail fans from away as those in your local area. the SD-9 so needs a good coat of blue.
Tnx 4 puttin' in 6hrs Jason - vg video!
Nice old high hood!
Used to see them as a kid on the old L&N line down in Alabama
I ran a GP7 and a GP9 with high hoods. Visibility was difficult. The only thing worse was running long hood forward.
good train video
Long haul to da UP from Luna Pier!
Awesome video
Interesting, no glue cars this time!

1221 is here today and gone tomorrow, but I think it will be around for a while, because EL&S is short of power and money
Speaking of CN, do you ever shoot video of the CN between Esky and Kingsford?
What did you mean they had to honk twice when they crossed over the diamond?
When they cross over the CN track. So there won’t be a collision

I would sure like to know the back story on those electric mailbox’s.
The story is shocking I feel!
Part1 you talked too much, LOL. Nice 2 part video Jason. Does ELS own 1221? I love that train.
Heads up, I'll be in the UP first week of September. Like to meet you if just to shake your hand.
That 1221 is a cool piece of equipment working dose anyone know how much that engine weighs? I’m thinking at least 150 ton, thanks for the video Jason
I heard 170-200 tons.

CN strike won’t affect CN trains in the United States as CN employees in us are part of a different contract than Canadian workers
The CN strike is over, government intervened
Nice, 5:45😊
