Hey everyone, hope this vid is to your liking. If any bonus thoughts come to mind I'll put them here in this pinned comment. That and any arguments that become too common, that way I don't have to respond to them individually. SUBSCRIBE!!! EDITS: 1) DLC: I'll expand on my position on DLC. I did not expect DLC from SM2. With SM2018, we knew about the 3 DLC packs the game would be receiving before the game even came out. But we had no such info for SM2, so I did not expect DLC. It could have happened, anything is possible, especially after GOW Ragnarök got DLC out of nowhere. But I never really expected it. All that being said, let's discuss what could have happened in a DLC and why it didn't excite me at all. First of all, DLC's are short. With no plan to make more than one, it's safe to assume any DLC we did get would be about the length of one of the 2018 game's DLC packs. That's not a lot of content. Secondly, there is no way in hell Carnage would have been a DLC villain. The guy is so powerful/well-known that he could be the main villain of his own game, why does anyone think he would be a good fit for a roughly 2-3 hour DLC??? If he was defeated in a DLC that would be the most anticlimactic thing ever. Thirdly, Chameleon. He could have been a decent fit for DLC, given how much of a minor character/threat he is. But that's exactly my problem with him: he's weak af. Who would really want to fight him? Do you want to do the Hush sidequest from Arkham Knight again? The one that's basically one cutscene? Because that's what a Chameleon DLC would look like. Fourthly, we already know what this game's DLC would have looked like due to leaks. It would have centered around the Beetle, a character we haven't seen yet in this universe. Not Carnage or Chameleon, they were literally never options.
@@Dctctx Things like that don't get canceled because of leaks dude, no one in their right mind would cancel a multimillion dollar with years of work put onto it project because its known to exist. Look at Half-Life 2, older versions of the game got leaked but by the time that came out, the game was completely different and still made a shit tone of money
I still find it really funny that Insomniac focused so much on the black suit in the marketing, but in the game itself it's super uninspired. So much so that the moment you receive it in story mode, it automatically switches to surge mode lol to show the slightest difference
It's so wild how the ONLY gameplay difference with significant damage is Surge Mode. I'd think that the Symbiote would just naturally be stronger and cause more damage but no
@superjlk_9538 the worst part is, Insomniac had plans and literal LEAKED gameplay of Spider-Man busting through walls, but they removed it. Guarantee it'll be introduced in the 3rd game as a "big new feature" knowing damn well they could've done it in this one
1:05:06 This never made sense to me, mainly because of Miles. Miles had his father killed, and his friend blown up next to him in his solo game What's the point of Peter being the more experienced Spider-Man being so "affected", and Miles (who is only 2 years being spider man) doing super well?
Tbf miles was able to go to therapy and heal from such a pain whereas Peter was holding on to May’s death without really talking to anybody in depth about it.
I am so glad you mentioned unskippable cutscenes. This issue alone makes NG+ insufferable on this game. And we should be able to skip conversations, and sections like riding bikes and shooting hoops with Harry. I appreciate a good story, but being forced to watch it when you just wanna have some action makes this game hard to come back to for me tbh.
Going to have disagree on peter nerf thing he was objectively nerfed I mean comon he can’t even dodge lighting anymore in the sandman fight he gets hit by it multiple times and there is so many more examples. Peter not being able to lift a tiny ass brick wall off himself, him having trouble pulling a spear out of a ship ,can’t lift a train off himself ,his spider-sense never ever works, he loess to venom even with anti venom, he got one shot by kraven , he lost to miles with the venom symbiote and almost got killed by a stab wound ect. Compare this to the first game he can effortlessly dodge lighting multiple times, he can lift a rubble 5x that brick wall , he can lift a train out the ground, he basically lifts a 300 ton crane up, he can tip over mister negative’s tank, he can take getting impaled by doc ock, he could beat up a amped mister negative with broken bones ect and I can keep going. In the end I think it is obvious that Peter got nerfed he is performing worse or failing at task he was able to do in the previous game with not much difficulty or no difficulty at all
It could have worked if they gave it a story reason like in the Spider-Man 2 movie. Peter is losing confidence in his abilities so psychologically he makes himself weaker than he actually is. The symbiote makes him think he’s stronger but it’s just manipulating him. This game could have been fixed if they just took another year to develop it.
I reckon he was really burnt out which impacted his performance. I don’t think it needed to be spelt out blatantly but it should’ve been a lot more implied
Great video. You cooked once again. I so disagree with the decision to start Peter in a bad place at the beginning of the game. Symbiote stories are typically at their strongest when Peter begins in a relatively good place, and the suit slowly drags him into a downward spiral. Even Spider-Man 3 managed to get this right. Imagine if, on top of his usual stress, Peter was also a teacher at Brooklyn Visions, invested in the lives of his students. When Peter first gets the suit, he might find himself able to balance being both Spider-Man and a teacher, using the symbiote’s power to save time and energy. But as the symbiote takes over, his solutions become increasingly violent or thoughtless, even making things worse for his students. By the third act, when the symbiote army attacks, the students Peter tried to help could be trapped under the wreckage of their destroyed school, forcing Peter now free of the symbiote to rescue them in a triumphant moment of redemption. This would tie his heroism directly to his personal relationships and responsibility, creating a deeply emotional payoff. The potential for storytelling with Peter as a teacher at Brooklyn Visions is massive, but instead, the game squanders it and has him get fired in literally the first fucking mission. Instead, they gave the Brooklyn Visions side missions to Miles and they feel like some of the most cringeworthy, AI generated content I’ve seen in a game. These missions are shallow and meaningless, emblematic of a broader issue with Spider-Man 2: the reliance on safe, surface-level storytelling. If Insomniac wants their games to compete for Game of the Year, they need to inject real heart and depth into their stories, like The Last of Us Part II or God of War. Bryan Intihar, the game’s creative director, has said they aim to show you don’t need powers to be a hero. But which is more relatable to the everyday person: a struggling teacher doing everything they can for their students, or a guy working at a billion dollar tech company on bee saving technology? What happened here?
The Symbiote is a fall from grace storyline that works best when Peter is at a good point in his life. The destructive nature and allure of power is a tragedy in the making.
I can see when a symbiote storyline might work when Peter is at rock bottom, and it's probably the aftermath of when Gwen is gone and he becomes dependent on the suit. Though this is hypothetical and definitely needs a good writer just for it to work
@@JohnDoe-gt3jrthat’s what I was thinking. I think Peter being in a bad place is what would drive Peter to accept the suit more than he would normally.
I hate how miles's invisibility is just thrown in the game non-chalantly when in his own game it was a crucial point of the story. His invisibility is very important because its what seperates peter and miles from each other. I never use it because when you activate it enemies can see you and theres just no point of having it in the game.
Why do you guys focus on things that don’t matter. I get preference, but you guys act like little things like this is so detrimental & could’ve saved the game 💀
@-Anonymous-. Bro I putting down things that suck about this game, personal things that I think need work. Idc how little this complaint is its the fact that it needs work, hell this whole game needs work
@-Anonymous-. His invisibility would've saved stealth, miles's stealth is a crucial part of himself amd his story missions and to just have it thrown in here non-chalantly shows that they don't care about miles at all in this game. His invisibility wouldn't save the game but it would've made stealth more fun.
It’s been over a year and the game is still broken. Music still stops when I take civilians to the ambulance, Miles and Peter still say symbiotes are dropping in when it is in fact hunters, crimes still disappear when I arrive at them, and the symbiote traversal abilities still sound like the spider-arms.
My theory about the custcene thing is that they let the engine decide what is a cutscene and what's not a cutscene instead of just manually placing the skip triggers. That's why some of them aren't skipable
Imo they gotta add a a friendly neighborhood like feature pretty badly. It would basically be a mode where you dont use Iron Arms or Symbiote (Because they're forced in symbiote surge, parries, and some finishers) and instead lets us use a basic parry or finisher that spidey could usually do. Idk but it completely deimmerses me when Iron arms pop out when using the Final Swing suit or TASM 2 suit. It shouldn't be mandatory in future games because they dont fit all the suits and it looks really odd a lot of the time or doesn't make sense.
I'll say for the millionth time, it plays like a dream, but this game's story is inconsequential and it is all the worse because of it, by the end of it it feels like nothing happened, all the while consistently jiggling keys for the "next one". The game is a rollercoaster, crawling from explosion to explosion, and after the event i cannot care for it or going in again
I literally gasped when he showed it. It feels like it was SUPPOSED to be like this, with venom draging MJ from the fridge and then from infront of him to behind the table. Like Dorito said, it makes no sense
Its crazy, I played it nonstop on release and havent considered playing it again for even like a single moment. Sure it has good gameplay and some really cool setpieces, but man the dialogue and story only range from bland to dogsh*t. It's a genuine waste of the actor's performances, they deserved better writers.
I found so funny how defenders of this game constantly argue that is OK how awfully underdeveloped Miles was because it was a "Peter Story" & I'm like _I'M SORRY WHAT?!_ The game's litterally Called SPIDER-MEN 2 PS5, THIS GAME was sold to you as a MILES & PETER game (literally all the trailers, posters & even the cover art sells you that they are equally important to the game & both are playable). & NO, Miles defeating Venom does NOT count because he was barely on the game & then he comes out of nowhere in the end to punch a guy he has never met in a place he has never been 🤦🏽♂
It wasn't implied they'd be equally important. It was a simple statement that they'd both be playable. And Miles being thrown in the back for a while (or having his revenge arc), was purposeful to show Peter pushing him away as the suit becomes "his pretty best friend in the whole wide world".
Great, A Spider-Fanboy just appear to prove I'm right, thanks @KrypticSpiderMan , what are you gonna do next? Insult MJ actress & say she is a self-insert? Say that Peter is Spidey & Miles is Miles? You are as predictible as original 🤡
There was A LOT of cut content but there was a Miles and Harry mission where they go to the area where Rhino died. Miles brings up Phone, Harry explains how he feels sorry about what happen and that he lost his mom saying she was the only one to truly "understand" him. Miles agrees that Phin was the one that understood him but Harry reassures him that dnt worry he okay with getting to understand and know Miles. (Super wholesome interaction while exposing the scary side of the situation with Rhino's death) That's why at the end Miles brings up Harry's mother about how he knows she's talking to him because they spoke on her.
One thing I hate about kraven in this game is where he described killing off some of spideys rouges gallery like electro, vulture, shocker, scorpion and I think rhino. I dont like how he said shocker was the hardest one to kill out of all of villains he had killed. Wouldnt Electro be the hardest one to kill? Electro can literally fly, absorb electricity and can even turn into pure energy and you're telling me the hardest one for kraven to beat was shocker? I get vulture, scorpion and maybe rhino was easy to kill but saying that shocker was hard to kill is just crazy to me.
@@isaiahssportschannel1600 the entire thing was completely stupid because all of those villains should have still been in jail from the first game. His fight with Scorpion was incredibly lame, he went through all that trouble just to strange the guy while being immune to his attack? How lame. Then he has his goons do all the hunting for him and has situations where he just has Tombstone locked up in a cell for days before without bothering to go fight/kill him because plot. He also got his ass handed to him by Harry who barely even had experience, he’s a total pushover and I hated him as a villain.
I hate peter and miles relationship in this game. They barely spoke to each other, their supposed to have a teacher and student type of relationship but it feels like their distant friends who see each other only sometimes. There were moments in this game where peter shouldve related to miles, like when miles wanted revenge on martin li or miles wanting to go to college. Peter had so much experience with these topics and hes not around for miles at all. Miles is still new to being spiderman and peter should be there training him, but it feels like miles doesnt need training. Some moments in the story it feels like miles is training peter which is stupid. Then peter is giving miles the role of spiderman when miles barley has any experience what so ever. This game is just mediocre, it was fun while it lasted but its not good at all.
Yeah, there should've been more scenes with these two together talking and figuring stuff out together and Peter being there for Miles in those moments, since he would do that, it would've made the whole, 'Focus on Peter,' thing feel more earned by the story rather feel like an afterthought.
It’s genuinely funny how so many people were genuinely thinking this game is going to be GOTY , idk it’s just funny bc even Mario wonder would have been picked before SM2
Let’s just hope that the final 3rd Spider-Man game of the trilogy improves on everything that Spider-Man 2 messes up on because insomniac is really good at listening to feedback on constructive criticism. Because they’re still updating this game after a year later.
No the fuck they aren’t good at listening to feedback, they doubled down on everything the first game got criticized for and took months to add basic quality of life features
Another thing I hate is Mary Jane, the developers really don't know what to do with Mary Jane and her character is so annoying and boring. Why does every adaptation of her have to be a reporter and why do the developers keep putting her missions in the spiderman games. I play spiderman to play with spiderman not with shitty ass mj. You can give her a gun, a sword and I still won't care for her. It's not fair that she can get stupid ass solo missions but miles can't get decent side quests? Are you serious? In swear if we have to play as her in the next one I'm gonna lose it. There would be no point when were probably gonna be playing as silk, miles and peter so I hope there's not room for her missions at all.
The characterizations of the characters is sumn that has bothered me since the first game. Everyone is either super ideal n capable or too smart. I always felt Peter in these games was too nice, not in terms of being a good person or hero, but he doesn’t have the anger or melancholy that Peter often has which I think hurts the character. If u can only imagine peter being mad when he is in the black suit, u missed the plot
The thing that I think that hurts the gameplay the most, is the enemy Ai. First thing they NEED to improve in the 3rd Game when it comes to gameplay. Like if you do stealth in this game, they're just really stupid. Like if a friend/colleague hangs on a web, and it's almost on eye level, they just don't try to look up to see their coworker just hanging there on a web. And if they notice it, they don't even try to stop, and help him/her out, they directly go and move on to find Spider-Man. And they only look up when you shoot a web next to them. 🤦 Or if you web an enemy on a wall on their level, the others will just walk past their coworker, instead of trying to get him/her out of the web and regroup. And it really shows how laughably bad the enemy AI is when you play the MJ missions. Like i seriously don't get why people like the stealth in these MJ missions. The enemy Ai is so broken and way to easy to play through, where i can just speedrun the whole thing on the hardest difficulty.
One thing that confused me about this game is we don't really understand how this version of the symbiote works. Its during a mission where peter and harry are doing (cant remember it well) where theres a lot of fire and heat but the symbiote isn't freaking about out it. It makes me wonder what were some of the things that they changed and things they kept for this version of the symbiote.
@@amusedapple4933symbiotes are usually affected by fire though. Recently they’re not as impacted by fire for some reason but I think the point is that it’s unclear how this version of the symbiote deviates from the comic and general versions
Idk if you read my comment or not but since the captain America vid from marvel avengers I fell in love with the way you talk abt this popular stuff and saying ur own opinion without thinking abt what other people would think. Thats the whole reason that I watched ur long avenger breakdown video like 8 times and also i watched this whole video in one sitting. I can confidently say ( as a person that genuinely loves commentary youtube) you and augusttheduck are my fav content creators at the moment. Ty and keep the great work up ❤
First of all amazing video . just one small clarification, though the game of the year statement you gave is correct spiderman 2 couldn't have won it but you know what definitely this game should have gotten? Best performance by a voice actor Yuri lowenthal he performed so well , when he was fighting kraven it felt like he gave his soul out !
Can I just say miles feels more like a kid when he’s Spider-Man but when he’s miles he’s this big old teenager like in his voice his voice is more kid like when spider man and he’s more chill when non Spider-Man and he looks more smaller when Spider-Man
We just need better Combos and more combos to diversify the gameplay a bit still the same 4 hit combos and you can’t do the 4 hit combo to webline pull back you could do in miles morales. They need to take a book from Arkham for ng+ make the enemies harder and smarter, make the spider sense alittle transparent, and give us more combos!
36:35 THANK YOU!!!!! I was so happy to hear she was gonna return, thought wed have some real deep convos about justice and revenge and we NEVER GOT IT! I feel like they dropped the ball on one of if not the only big side mission with lasting effects. Also funnily enough, 36:48 we said the same thing word for word lol
Your review on this game is still my favourite, so this whole other hour expanding on it was a pretty satisfying listen, even if nothing's really changed obviously. Also yeah I fully agree with the whole "rushed" thing. Made this point during one of xsunnysunset's streams who went back through this game a month ago and tore it a new one, and we agreed that the story simply "having more time" wouldn't have saved it, because at the end of the day, Insomniac made the decisions they did. Their take on the symbiote storyline was absolutely horrible, but they don't acknowledge fault, they just agree Act 3 was rushed, meaning they probably are of the opinion all the other stuff was great and even with all the time in the world the game's narrative would have still come out rotten to the core. And the MJ and Aunt May stuff could have worked so well in my opinion but as you said they genuinely did nothing to set it up so those moments suck ass too and just have the player going "what are you even talking about?" About the whole strength thing. I guess Spidey isn't necessarily "less powerful" than he was in the first, especially because in that game there were stupid moments of weakness like him getting helplessly tossed around by Silver Sable, but generally it did a better job portraying him as cool and competent I guess. In this game Miles feels stronger, cooler, faster and more competent than Peter at every point. Even when Peter has the symbiote there's no point where you ever really get the impression he has become more powerful and can handle himself, which then also makes the whole very barely fleshed out idea of Peter feeling like "he needs the suit to keep up. It's how he can save everyone" just fail entirely. Had Miles fought the Lizard he would have probably launched it in the air, done a triple backflip, wholeass DMC combo, and annihilated it with a Thunder Punch to make the heavens shiver. Meanwhile Symbiote Peter still gets manhandled, is pinned to the floor and struggling to get free, breaks his arm and so on. I just feel like they took the completely wrong steps at every turn with the black suit, even just at such basic things. Incredibly frustrating.
I wish I could like this video twice, because you’ve put into words as to why I feel so ambivalent towards this game. I finished it and felt strangely empty, dissatisfied. But I could never really articulate it very well, and it felt like I was the only one who wasn’t very happy about it on completion. This video succinctly summarises why I just feel indifferent towards the future of Insomniac Spider-man moving forward. It might be good, but the story presented was so mediocre that it’s made me apathetic towards any future instalments. And that’s really sad, considering I really loved the last 2 games in the series
Theres nothing wrong with switching up. Its the stat wars prequel effect. Everyone said right away that they were amazing because of hype then like a week later Everyone hated it
I like the way this was made 100% Love the pauses for the laughter, great example was when you joked about how your first opninon is perfect, that had me laughing hard. Its nice to hear more levity and idk warm ig? I like the hybrid is what I'm saying
Personally I really like actually feeling like Spider-Man, which I think they could’ve done better by just allowing us to explore the city as Peter and miles just exploring in day to day clothes. I feel like this would’ve made the game way more fun and give more meaning to swinging around and exploring at high speeds. I also really miss the snow from miles morales.
Ive been reading the tie in book to the first game (weirdly no one exists for this one) and it actually sets up the ending of this game quite well having him set up the idea that he cant quit until fisk is taken down and then presumably in the first game until the demons are taken down and then presumably until miles is trained and then so on, however that is no excuse for this game as I shouldn't have to read a prequel book for the first game that is probably not even cannon just to have the ending work for the character even in the slightest. Good book though I'm quite enjoying it.
13:06 it’s really baffling that many Modern Video Games are trying to be Movies. They really Dragged Down the Pacing and yes Previous Gen Games don’t have Skippable Cutscenes/Segments however it doesn’t take more than 15 Minutes or Hours.
41:19 While I wouldn't exactly say there was a direct correlation between the game not winning a single award and the people who actually did just change their opinion (whether that was because they actually don't like the story or for the grift like some), I don't think it's a coincidence that more people were critical when it did end up not winning any awards. Not saying you're wrong at all, but I do think a select group of people did decide to join a hate bandwagon as soon as it didn't win anything, but that's not to say that EVERYONE joined after that.
Jeez, Kraven the Hunter dying of something incurable? If only the plot had something in it that could, latch onto a host and cure them of something fatal, like, some kinda alien that augments the host. Might have added more weight to the fight if the stakes for Kraven were "I get a warriors death, or I live on as the ultimate hunter" Idk man, I'm not writing with playstation money
Kraven not being offered the symbiote is a gigantic missed opportunity. Having him accept it to continue as the ultimate hunter, OR reject it as "cheating". Either would have been telling for his character, but instead we get nothing.
Man, it’s almost like the same thing also is a live and has a conscience. Which is why it CHOOSES who it wants to fuse with instead of just jump in on anyone whose sick
The idea that I think they were going for with Kraven is that he didn't care if his targets were weakened. His "genuine death" was about making sure *he* wasn't weakened. He uses underhanded tactics because he would be handicapping himself if he didn't use them, which he doesn't view as a proper fight. He wanted the targets to use everything they had to overcome everything he had. If they were unable to use everything they had because of something Kraven had done, then Kraven viewed that as their fault for being weak, and not worthy of claiming his life. Of course, the issue is that he just doesn't seem to use weaknesses all the time. It all falls apart when his actual death, that he literally thanks Venom for, was something he let happen.
My main problem with the side quests is that you unlock each thing all at once like the sandman missions and the BVA missions and it’s all the same level no matter what giving it do it all now and do it all later mentality so there’s no higher difficulty challenges as you go on or hard puzzles which sucks because in like Batman: Arkham Knight it has those puzzles that actually have to think through and harder enemies as you go on but this game doesn’t because it was either rushed or put on the back burner so much they just did it last minute
I really do think Kraven using underhanded methods and means AND wanting to die in battle COULD work, if the idea was intended as "he wants to be BEATEN, DEFEATED. he wants to devise a perfect plan to victory and watch it fail, watch his options shrink, feel HELPLESS towards his final end, to know that he did everything he could and for it to simply not be enough against this foe." Which is what I think they TRIED to set-up when you get his backstory of nearly being killed by a Lion and it forever changing him? But it's just, never really set up well enough for me to believe that this is actually HAPPENING in the story.
I think the reason the story ended up the way it did is that Insomniac 1.) wanted to address complaints that the first game dragged in places and 2.) didn't want to make the player wait too long before getting to the stuff with the symbiote suit and Venom. The unfortunate end result is that the whole story feels rather undercooked. I think a lot of the game's issues could've been fixed if they had just slowed things down and gave the plot more room to breathe instead of zipping through it as fast as possible.
I think in the case of the Iron Spider being colored weird it's just a case of like- the actual film version being red, but then like certain marketing materials being orangey? Like I know personally my brain always recalls it looking more orangey for some reason, I don't know if like- In Homecoming when it's teased maybe it WAS? But I feel like all the toys and things have always made it orangey red and so maybe that's why Insomniac made it red? But to be fair their movie suits are pretty hit or miss in terms of faithfulness, like the Raimi one is pretty off, and I think the TASM 1 looks close enough, but does kind of for some reason look just a bit off to me maybe because it's like- too clean? And too bright.
Wait so forgive me if Im lost but kraven was able to defeat scorpio by making an antidote before the fight took place? Did they mention it anywhere in the story because I didn't pay attention to the voice recordings
It's a miss-able item you can interact with before you inspect Scorpion's armor. Peter says that Kraven has gotten a hold of this specific flower that is an antidote to Scorpion's poison. Whether or not Kraven actually used it is never directly stated, but I'm assuming he did based on how Kraven has no reaction to Scorpion's poison. And why else would they include that detail.
@DoritoGOD2811 thank you for the response and in my opinion the you made the best video explaining the critiques and popular conversations about this games flaws this game has I finished your video at a single sitting even having my dinner through it 😃 keep up your amazing detailed analytics of these story focused videogames
Best and most recent example of wasted potential. This could’ve been game of the generation, instead I forgot about it pretty much soon as I rolled credits. Story was great until the third act, then they rushed it so bad. Played through it again on new game+ when that was released and honestly haven’t touched it since. The news of no dlc just put the nail in the coffin for me
I swear, wall-crawling and wall-running was basically perfected in Web of Shadows and in every other game after devs were like "so how about we throw this out" edit: forgot to mention that I find the whole DLC thing weird. like, yeah, if Insomniac had it planned and cancelled due to a leak that sucks (i guess?) but I think it's a very bizarre mindset of people to go into a game expecting DLC. I think it's a very damaging mindset to go into a video game with the expectation of DLC because it just encourages game devs to not include all the content they created on launch and instead hide it behind another pay wall. when you pay full price for a video game you should expect all the content to be included and we need to discourage companies from, say, announcing DLC before the game has even come out (I'm looking at you Spider-Man PS4).
I just think it’s an unfortunate situation. They should have told us immediately when they decided to cancel DLC. I know we weren’t told we’d have any but they also NEVER denied it. They always said “we have nothing to announce at this time.”They were simply working on it the whole time but at some point this year decided to cut their losses and work on other games (Wolverine) that would generate higher revenue. Insomniac should have been up front. They set up an expectation from the first game as well as setting up DLC oriented characters in side content in the second game. There’s NO WAY that Carnage was supposed to be saved for a third game and not resolved in a big DLC event. How are we going to stop Carnage if we don’t have the Anti-Venom suit? That also means it’s permanent and will come back in the third game as a way to fight off symbiote enemies created by carnage. Is the third game just going to be Green Goblin, Carnage, Red Goblin, and Doc Ock all together? Are they going to mix in the clone saga too? Insomniac has bit off far more than it can chew now thanks to their decision to cut DLC. Carnage will just be a sidequest in the third game I’m sure even though he’s far too powerful to just be ignored by the main story. He’s stronger and more dangerous than VENOM
@@superjlk_9538 Insomniac shouldn't have set up the expectation for DLC in the first place. Planning and announcing DLC for your 60 dollar video game before it was even released that costs an additional 25 is bad practice and just a shitty thing to do.
@@substandardeagle4738 it was. They screwed themselves over by committing to content updates for the first game but not the second when they already knew it was going to be a major hit
Love your content, I watch every video and love the way you format your content. Whether it’s a suit based video or an analysis video, your content is always easy to watch and enjoy! Excited for your next video! Hope everything is well!
One last is the god awful suits, there are billions of spiderman suits from the comics and they choose the ones no one has heard of or they get trash artists to design the suits. How come miles gets all of his suits from his game but peter cant? I get its hard for them to design suits but come on man. They took the time for miles and should be able to do the same with peter. Theres so many suits from the first game that shouldve returned in this game.
Awesome video. Can't speak for others, but the reason I wanted DLC and was disappointed we didn't get it is because... Well I A) wanted more suits and B) wanted more story. As it stands now, the standing plot threads of Carnage, and the upcoming stuff from the final scenes of the game? I'm worried about a disconnected double story line. Plus I was hoping we'd get hints of... Well- Cindy Moon as well, I love the idea of Silk being in the universe and getting to potentially play as her in the third main game. Fixing issues? Nah, never expected that.

Honestly for a story game the only thing good about it is the gameplay yes they made the gameplay much better in comparison to the last two but I feel like a story game needs two things a good story and goodish gameplay but if you don’t have both you have objectively failed this game does not have a great story or side content an example being the school side story not great the yuri one was just a bunch of fights that then teases at carnage but went nowhere with the story I feel was very rushed and was a tiny bit longer they could have made it slightly better had time to not be as rushed with venom or just have not been so huge on teasing venom and saved him for another game as it was very rushed the last boss fight was meh and should have finished off with Peter but they side swiped him for the black character thanks sweet baby inc now the last thing I’m going to complain about is that some of the characters models are pretty bad Peter’s is weird Harry looks like he is in his 50s when he should be like late twenties early thirties and then mj why in the world did she go from news reporter to whatever she becomes in the second why does she look like that it’s horrible
I couldn't agree with you more on your critique of the New Game Plus for this game. I platinum completed the first playthrough and new game plus, and the option to skip all of that bloat should have been there. It's funny, Insomniac made Rift Apart and you can skip Clank and Kit missions if you want to, but you can't do something similar in their Spider-Man games. Great video man.
so many aspects of this game had the ball dropped, my opinion has really soured of this game sadly, when i was in 2018 i couldn’t afford spiderman when it came out and id watch easter egg videos and lore break downs and i would be non stop hyped until i finally got my greasy paws on that game, and the same was for spiderman 2 when it came out. and i actually watched you play it live as my first time seeing it and it was cool but i did not go out and buy the game after. they favored a rushed spectacle instead of well developed story like the first. and i know the first games story isn’t perfect but there were so many elements that were just air tight that this game can’t even muster the breath to follow up on. i don’t think the game should’ve been longer but the development or story boarding should’ve been cause even from the start if they were allowed more than 5 minutes to think about things they’d have come up with something more cohesive and something that would’ve stuck. the only parts of this game i remember are all the moments i went “why is this happening” and then playing as venom for like 10 min. i played the trial just to see if id feel something different while playing it and everything after that intro felt so blegh. plus the no dlcs basically just kill this story cause it was very much made in mind that these loose ends would be covered in said dlc. all around this game is like a really pretty fish that’s dead in the water.
So, for as much as this game added. They maxe swinging quicker, added a loop, and added a new way to traverse, people still want more from it. I understand the minor gripes at the start but we have to understand that insomniac isnt trying to take all the mechanics from other spiderman games. Web climb would add a complexity that, more times than not, would probably be unnecessary for most players, most of the time. Other than stuff like that i agree that the game was sorta messy over all in terms of story, characters, and the heartbreaking news of no DLC
I think that Spiderman 2 is a good game with lots of flaws but its still a fun game and i think a game being fun is the most important thing a game can be. The story is crap though
1:12:14 I personally prefer the more scripted stuff. It feels more like the points have more of a chance to be fleshed out. Wheras here they sometimes feel "too casual?"
2:05 funny how when people where saying that back in 2018, they got attacked and insulted in the replies 😅 It took 2 more games to admit the flaws of the first one.
In terms of the underwhelming wall crawling or absence of climbing on a web i feel like thats an engine/design problem. The Arkham series was only as good as it was bc Arkham Asylum was such an incredible foundation. The only natural way for those mechanics to be added or better would be if SMPS4 had it. That's why stealth in SM2 is so sh*t. Stealth remains untouched in light of Bryan Intihar saying "stealth wasn't a focus", but if the first game just had a good stealth system then what would have remained for SM2 would've just been a good stealth system. Sequels in this series are often just inheriting the first game's problems. Meanwhile the Arkham game's combat and predator mechanics literally just had innovations thrown on top of the foundation after every game
I really like the hand-unit (specifically from Sister Location) effect you do for talking about suit-usage in New Game+ (Edit): I actually really like the toothpaste collection. I find it easier to find the likeable part of something widely hated on subjective values. Being trans, autistic, and a furry with do that for ya. This is the one time someone can say the outfits look autistic and I *_won't_* explain throughout several thesises in their comment section how them saying that definitely notes that they're very much objectively either a Nazi, SA apologist, or (definitively based on the first one) both. I mean, I still could, I just won't do it because I entirely agree, because I like them, and being an outcast from society and my family on several levels makes me automatically like the suits for being inherently relatable. Like Phonegingi in Dialtown. Only there, besides the vibes of the character, I actually wish I looked like Phonegingi, but that's a trauma-dump for another time. Also, I think the Phone-that-directly-mirrors-Callum-Crown-head looks objectively better, but as a result of conditioning by the lore and game, I'd rather look like Typegingi, because Typewriters, to quote the opening of the game, "don't *_directly_* indicate gender". See, thing is, they do to an extent, and being able to play as whatever gender is more a game design thing, as, unlike the art curator, Phone/Typegingi doesn't have a combination head, only one or the other. Granted, Phonegingi strikes me as genderfluid, but liek, I find it more likely to believe I'd marry a gay gal in the future than Oliver. I mean, I guess if he were cis I'd find it harder to believe, and were Karen trans I'd find it easier to believe, but still. Or, maybe sexuality has actually gone from Gynomorphism and Andromorphism to just heads, because Oliver is technically minded, and constructed his own phonehead, but seems to only be wearing a binder as far as any form of transtioning goes to my knowledge. I really refuse to believe anyone could wear any form of top-wear under flannel otherwise. Also, I guess I don't know if Oliver has had bottom surgery. Anyway, thanks to him, I understand how off-putting my monster-fucker schtichk is, and how much I come-off as a chaser, and that trans people can be chasers. Anyway, point being, I think Pete and Harry should've made out, especially whilst in the pasty-white-toothpaste and tall-dark-symbiote suits. (Edit): Now that the mouth has been pointed out, I absolutely adore the suit. (Edit): I'm starting to think I'm just incapable of hating suits, but I think people hating on any specific suit in particular just makes me want to defend it more, which, like the OofTroop with ScrapTrap, makes me grow fonder of it than well liked suits. Besides Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit of course, although that's mostly because Andrew Garfield was pushing for Peter being bi, and I associate the suit with Andrew Garfield, and due to things besides how the suit looks, because of that alone it'll always hold a place in my heart. (Edit): I think the twist was obvious. Mysterio being redeemed at face value alone matters for the theme of redemption going on throughout the game? The point that: "No, killing is kinda pwetty cwinge, UwU rawr."? Past that, I like Quentin Beck. You don't watch a Deadpool movie for the plot, and it even having a plot is very much not a right, but a very graciously bestowed gift from Marvel Jesus which we should all be grateful for. I bring up that last bit because that's how I feel about Quentin Beck's inclusion in game. Wanted to make sure you got that. Kinda, "Idioms go over my head" kinda energy, ya know? Just to clarify, I know you don't get it, which is the point of me making it.
The uptown suit from miles’ game is my favorite suit for him and I HATE how they butchered it here. Why have 2 shades of gold? And why choose the ugliest gold? How hard is it to do a color swap??? F***ing ridiculous
Great video; much better than the original despite me loving that one too. Agreed that Symbiote Surge is so lame bc its just free finishers with not even a healthy pool amount of nice animations to see. There's literally only like 3-4. I believe Symbiote Surge finishers are sh*t bc base combat is so basic with only 4-hit combos. Meanwhile Ultimate Spiderman in WOS/Shattered Dimensions has long combo strings that allow more expressiveness and most importantly more player agency in the challenging sense. It's a shame that Kraven was written so undefined bc its the opposite of SMPS4 where they clearly had a confident direction with Octavius and that still remains the series' best villian. Fridge scene argument was a good point and it's quite mindblowing how something seemingly as "simple" as scene editing can have a major effect on how a scene is received. Characters in SM2 are bland and uninteresting which sucks bc The Raimi Trilogy had very kinetic character writing. They were often at odds with each other and so it made those end-of-film reunions extremely rewarding to watch. I despise how in the space of one side game and a brand new full game how Miles already is at the level of an 8-year tenure Spiderman. Its unbeliveable and no amount of talent or hard work Miles has should make the climb seem so..insignificant. It's very lazy and soggies the first game more than I'd like. Such as the scene of Peter teaching Miles how to punch. With this game in retrospect you'd wonder why Miles needed the lesson in the first place. Bc the passing of time is incongruent as f*ck. Personally, i felt like SM2 was a masterpiece up until he gets the symbiote--bc once he does the game's story goes at a blinding pace as to not bore the player. Lots of context missing, and character motivations either rapidly changing (in Peter's case) or literally sitting on a skyscraper WAITING to be motivated (like Miles). The game makes an effort to show that Martin Li is back to haunt Miles' present but why is he waiting around in between every Peter mission? You'd think he'd be interrogating Raftees, ex-Demon gang members, and much more. Time to collect instruments ig. What I hate most about Miles' ascension to main Spiderman is this game doesn't challenge Miles enough to make the shift raw, grounded, believable, and especially rewarding. Though I believe that this game's length and character balancing act from the offset never even allocated enough time for him. His own game should've been the length of SM1 or SM2 should've put Miles through trauma after trauma bc that's literally how Peter was as an effective Spiderman as he was in SM1. This game simply does too much, and not even that well.
Hey everyone, hope this vid is to your liking. If any bonus thoughts come to mind I'll put them here in this pinned comment. That and any arguments that become too common, that way I don't have to respond to them individually.

EDITS:
1) DLC: I'll expand on my position on DLC.
I liked the video, but you should look the word "literally" in the dictionary before using it...
Could've been better, should've had dlc, still an alright game
10/10 review🎉
its mid at most 5/10 on the game
We would’ve had dlc if leakers didn’t ruin it
its not just an alright game, its a good game but it could’ve been better and its really been clearly rushed
Couldn't agree more. Been saying this since It first came out
It's so wild how the ONLY gameplay difference with significant damage is Surge Mode. I'd think that the Symbiote would just naturally be stronger and cause more damage but no
@@ccelite3782 Sometimes I still can't believe that the black suit don't have unique web swing animations
@@ccelite3782it should have opened up more environmental abilities. We should be able to tear down parts of walls and throw them at opponents
Miles had his father killed, and his friend blown up next to him in his solo game
What's the point of Peter being the more experienced Spider-Man being so "affected", and Miles (who is only 2 years being spider man) doing super well?
EXCELLENTLY PUT! When I first played, and saw Peter being the teach I was so excited! I thought it was such a good next step for him.
@ Exactly! And it’s also such a beloved era in the comics so it really felt like they took something away by not even exploring it.
I think I went invisible in SM2 like 4 times
The invisibility and the hacking app from the first game could very well be implemented in stealth sections, but they are just left aside.
There should be an option for a web shield, web of shadows and Disney infinity had that. The Iron arms look really weird on 80% of the suits
22:45 Orange Spider-Man is the new Green Iron Man.
1:04:37 im surprised how much better this scene looks without that shot of Venom holding up MJ
I literally gasped when he showed it. It feels like it was SUPPOSED to be like this, with venom draging MJ from the fridge and then from infront of him to behind the table. Like Dorito said, it makes no sense
Came here to say this
Its crazy, I played it nonstop on release and havent considered playing it again for even like a single moment. Sure it has good gameplay and some really cool setpieces, but man the dialogue and story only range from bland to dogsh*t. It's a genuine waste of the actor's performances, they deserved better writers.
I only replay it to swing around and fight Lizard
I found so funny how defenders of this game constantly argue that is OK how awfully underdeveloped Miles was because it was a "Peter Story" & I'm like _I'M SORRY WHAT?!_
The game's litterally Called SPIDER-MEN 2 PS5, THIS GAME was sold to you as a MILES & PETER game (literally all the trailers, posters & even the cover art sells you that they are equally important to the game & both are playable).
& NO, Miles defeating Venom does NOT count because he was barely on the game & then he comes out of nowhere in the end to punch a guy he has never met in a place he has never been 🤦🏽♂
Freaking sucks how Miles being the 2nd protagonist of the game barely got anything to do in the main story.

(Super wholesome interaction while exposing the scary side of the situation with Rhino's death)
That's why at the end Miles brings up Harry's mother about how he knows she's talking to him because they spoke on her.
I think they were trying to say shocker was the angriest or like he just wouldn't stay down, but you're right I still don't get it
@allnamesweretaken. If they explained it differently then maybe it would work but from a comic book readers point of view it doesn't make sense
It was more of an ironic pick to say Shocker was the hardest
@@isaiahssportschannel1600 the entire thing was completely stupid because all of those villains should have still been in jail from the first game. His fight with Scorpion was incredibly lame, he went through all that trouble just to strange the guy while being immune to his attack? How lame. He also got his ass handed to him by Harry who barely even had experience, he’s a total pushover and I hated him as a villain.
@@isaiahssportschannel1600 Shocker's a fan favorite I think that's why. Also Electro is a moron, even in the first game he got defeated rather easily.
@jbktpl1245 that's what I'm saying but ofc the developers missed out on another opportunity with this game
Spider-Man 2's biggest problem is its story whereas the first game had its biggest strength in its story.
One of the worst story’s I’ve ever played through, pretty much ruined everything from the first game
*I swear
The characterizations of the characters is sumn that has bothered me since the first game. Everyone is either super ideal n capable or too smart. I always felt Peter in these games was too nice, not in terms of being a good person or hero, but he doesn’t have the anger or melancholy that Peter often has which I think hurts the character. If u can only imagine peter being mad when he is in the black suit, u missed the plot
But Peter has moments of "anger" and melancholy in the first game
Peter was better written in the first game

The thing that I think that hurts the gameplay the most, is the enemy Ai.
First thing they NEED to improve in the 3rd Game when it comes to gameplay.
Like if you do stealth in this game, they're just really stupid.
Like if a friend/colleague hangs on a web, and it's almost on eye level, they just don't try to look up to see their coworker just hanging there on a web.
And if they notice it, they don't even try to stop, and help him/her out, they directly go and move on to find Spider-Man.
And they only look up when you shoot a web next to them. 🤦
Or if you web an enemy on a wall on their level, the others will just walk past their coworker, instead of trying to get him/her out of the web and regroup.
And it really shows how laughably bad the enemy AI is when you play the MJ missions.
Like i seriously don't get why people like the stealth in these MJ missions.
The enemy Ai is so broken and way to easy to play through,
where i can just speedrun the whole thing on the hardest difficulty.
Came here to say this.
Yeah, Arkham Asylum had better A.I. for stealth and that came out in 2009.
I really hope they up the A.I. in Marvel's Spider-Man 3.
Fire doesn’t bother it? Is it that hard to realize? Also the devs confirmed this

They really thought they were cooking with the “celebrity” collab costume😂
And the MJ and Aunt May stuff could have worked so well in my opinion but as you said they genuinely did nothing to set it up so those moments suck ass too and just have the player going "what are you even talking about?"
About the whole strength thing.
Cant believe this game isnt getting dlc at the moment. Or the fact we only play Venom for one mission. Great video!
LOL the addict like from Web of Shadows is an optional line of dialogue with Moon Knight, I loved that ☺️
1:02:32 Lol, it feels weird to see that cutscene without the wack ass suit.
Jeez, Kraven the Hunter dying of something incurable?
If only the plot had something in it that could, latch onto a host and cure them of something fatal, like, some kinda alien that augments the host.
Might have added more weight to the fight if the stakes for Kraven were "I get a warriors death, or I live on as the ultimate hunter"
Idk man, I'm not writing with playstation money
Kraven not being offered the symbiote is a gigantic missed opportunity.
Having him accept it to continue as the ultimate hunter, OR reject it as "cheating". Either would have been telling for his character, but instead we get nothing.
@@DoritoGOD2811 I doubt kraven would see that as cheating since he already uses enhancing drugs
Man, it’s almost like the same thing also is a live and has a conscience. Which is why it CHOOSES who it wants to fuse with instead of just jump in on anyone whose sick
@@isaiahfilmsanimations I think there is a diffrence of drugs that keep stable and a monster making suit.
It all falls apart when his actual death, that he literally thanks Venom for, was something he let happen.
the script in this video is infinitely better than the previous ones. keep this hybrid
Why do you write like Greg Heffley
I feel like the symbiote surge would be better if you could still take damage
10:00 spider-arm should have had a surge mode similar to the first games suit abilities
Best and most recent example of wasted potential. This could’ve been game of the generation, instead I forgot about it pretty much soon as I rolled credits. Story was great until the third act, then they rushed it so bad.
Played through it again on new game+ when that was released and honestly haven’t touched it since.
The news of no dlc just put the nail in the coffin for me
Stealth needs a major overhaul in the next game. It’s just boring
I like the video style with notes, it helps more of your personality come through
I swear, wall-crawling and wall-running was basically perfected in Web of Shadows and in every other game after devs were like "so how about we throw this out"
edit: forgot to mention that I find the whole DLC thing weird. like, yeah, if Insomniac had it planned and cancelled due to a leak that sucks (i guess?) but I think it's a very bizarre mindset of people to go into a game expecting DLC.
Hope everything is well!
the game could have been a lot better
Amazing video. I watched the whole thing, I like the hybrid approach you took for this video and would love to see more like it
Insomniacs writers have got to be the worst in the industry
you had me till you tried to say Peter wasn't Nerfed,
But overall great video that 1 disagreement aside
I finally arrived at Burger King, and bruh, the price has ALWAYS been 2:88 for a large drink. (Including tax) now it’s 3:08???????? DAMN
God damn!!
YESSSSSSS IVE BEEN WATING WEEKS FOR THIS, I’ve been planning to walk to Burger King through the rain/snow and deadly cold winds so I can get a soda to celebrate this legendary occasion. THANK YOU DORRITO MESSIAH, OUR LORD 🎉
Damn bro how far away do you live from the city?
@ Actually not too far, but the weathers been really bad lately 😭I literally just got cured from being sick but I’m risking it all for our DORRITO Lord
@GraySheep1717 Anything for our Dorito God 🤣
Watchtower Database and Dorito God on the same day!? I’m feasting
Dorito God, my king, returns.
IT’S BEEN A YEAR?
Bingus
Still can't believe The Flame isn't actually named Cletus Kasady
1:12:14 I personally prefer the more scripted stuff. It feels more like the points have more of a chance to be fleshed out. Wheras here they sometimes feel "too casual?"
Thank god youtube recommended this video because I really liked your older videos a few months back but forgot to subscribe.
Insomniac toothpaste collection😂
One year later and I think this game was a let down and overhyped. It’s fun on the first playthrough, but on the 2nd or 3rd, not so much.
I got tired of having again only three different enemy groups.
Really wish they should’ve made some DLC like they did with the first game. Mostly because of the loose threads with Chameleon and Carnage.
2:05 funny how when people where saying that back in 2018, they got attacked and insulted in the replies 😅
It took 2 more games to admit the flaws of the first one.
I really like the hand-unit (specifically from Sister Location) effect you do for talking about suit-usage in New Game+
(Edit): I actually really like the toothpaste collection.
I picked the hardest mysterio challenge first with no upgrades, I played for over an hour to get gold 😭
The web line is really similar to the remote claw from Batman: Arkham Origins but the RC is far more balanced due to its limited ammo
While I do think Spider-Man 2 is disappointing. Majority of this won’t save the game.
Finally a new vidddd let's gooooo
Yessir good to see you back
The uptown suit from miles’ game is my favorite suit for him and I HATE how they butchered it here. Why have 2 shades of gold? And why choose the ugliest gold? How hard is it to do a color swap??? F***ing ridiculous
It's the same problem as the integrated/hybrid suit, the gold is so shiny you can barely see it
I imagine it must be some raytracing problem

Bro I Have 188 hrs on Spider-Man 2 and I have Have a Platinum And only Have gone through the Story 2 times 😂
