I love the way you promote products. It doesn't feel like im just being bombarded with usless information. It feels like you are genuinley passionate about these products. You are the ONLY content creator on RUclips that I can stand to listen to payed advertisments from. Keep up the great videos! :-)
Steve, I think you did great, and the fact that you were challenged is even better! It's through the process of taking on projects that take us out of our comfort zone that we are able to improve our skills. Rather than say, "I'll probably never make another one..." It would be awesome if you would try a different, but equally challenging project again soon. Congratulations.
Good job Steve - it came out GREAT!! I'm glad you decided to make and not me. You always do a wonderful job painting your projects. That paint job really tops it off!! Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks for this. My wife has a collection of nutcrackers from 3 inches to 3 feet. Now I need to make her one to add to the collection that's personal from my shop.
Well done Steve! Really "turned" out great! Definitely more turning than I think you have ever posted! The use of an adjustable wrench was excellent and I'll be using it if I ever do any more turning!
How It's Made, Season 16,. Episode 1 shows how the German masters do these. It might provide some insight for others that want to tackle this. For example, they tell you they use "linden wood," which should be similar to basswood in North America. I think yours turned out great, though -- especially for your first one! Makes me want to try it now, if only I had a lathe.
Is like to see you make some wooden bells. Like a decoration piece. Maybe more of an art piece. No need to use the lathe. Is mostly like to see this because my wife has requested for me to make her some and I'd like to see your take on it. Trying to get some ideas over here. 😂
I'm glad you said that was difficult - I would have went through an entire forest to get arms that match... not that I have a lathe anyway. I enjoy your videos because your human - none of this "using just a pen knife and a nail file I made this working reproduction of the Trevi Fountain out of a still standing redwood tree..." (Though I could see you comically announcing you were going to do that and ending up with something) I keep watching... I keep learning. Keep teaching.
I made a 2 foot tall nutcracker on the lathe in my high school woodshop. I used a square notice drill to make the mouth. If I ever do it again I'll glue together boards so there is a hole for the mouth. I drilled all the holes before turning it because it can be hard to drill a round object centered.
You keep saying it was a difficult build, but you made it look almost effortless 😉 Beautiful job!!!! I'd love to see you make those wooden cheese knives as a gift idea this year. If you were looking for another 💡
Great looking nutcracker! I've been considering options for making a nutcracker without a lathe, my recent thought is to cut apart pre-made table legs and mix & match the various sections until I find consistent proportions for a whole body.
Just a suggestion, this might be easier if you use a harder wood. I don't like to turn pine because of the splinters. Some good turning ideas and I have wanted to do a nutcracker now I will have to do one.
I think you might want to get a roughing gouge. Or an EASY turning tool w/ carbide inserts. Or knock-off thereoff. But I haven't tested those yet, whereas a good roughing gouge is something that definitely works. Also, from the look of the surface finish, maybe some tool sharpening might be in order. Wood turning gets really fun with sharp tools and for that, you need a good jig/solution or decades of experience. Even Glen Lucas makes a case for the Tormek jig these days. However, props for dusting off the old lathe once again.
I know we mere mortals never see you (Steve) struggle with projects , but at least you were willing to admit you did and three goes at the lever made me thing if this is a decorative Nutcracker why. We visited Germany and Austria (that's the one without the Kangaroos, they expression also) 18 months ago and they sold both with and without the levers. People could make either version, as without the lever would be just as nice and a whole lot easier? P.S. Darn good advertisement! NSW in Oz
I'm now gonna hafta subscribe to your Patreon, Steve! Lathe?!? Chisels (weren't they only used to open paint cans)?!? All of this new stuff, I need a drink and valerian - too much in one episode. =D Keep up the awesome and challenging work. Must be Matthias' welding episodes that got to ya!
Dear Mr.Ramsey, im working on building up my shop and do you have any advice on power tools. I already have a drill press and a miter saw and a workbench If you have any advice please tell me. Thank you so much. +Steve Ramsey
Steve "Livin' Dangerously" Ramsey loves to lathe with his headphone cord hanging out the front!!! (May I suggest running the cord inside your shirt?) Stay safe, my friend.
You should demonstrate how good Harry's is by trying it on Princess MeowMeow. Extra Extra Fancy!!! (Love the video as always. Great close-up shots. Thank you)

I don't have a lathe or the skills, but I like this project. Thank you for sharing. Thanks to MicroJig and Harry's for sponsoring the show.
Good job Steve - it came out GREAT!! I'm glad you decided to make and not me. You always do a wonderful job painting your projects. That paint job really tops it off!! Enjoy your weekend.
7:33 - Your brother's husband. Awesome job Steve, loving these weekly uploads. Keep it up.
Thanks Andrew...I appreciate your support!
Awesome project. Love the low-tech use of a wrench for diameter measurements.

Thanks for this. My wife has a collection of nutcrackers from 3 inches to 3 feet. Now I need to make her one to add to the collection that's personal from my shop.

Fantastic Steve all the old tools are getting a workout lately
I know, right?
I think I could make this except the painting part. You are a great artist with so many mediums
That is just nuts.
Nice project!
This is such and awesome MICROJIG. Er. Nutcracker.
I love the paintjob!
Nicely done Steve!
Genius patience!
Great piece and great patience! My thought was "Ok, I've done that. Now time for something else a little more squared off!"
You keep saying it was a difficult build, but you made it look almost effortless 😉
Beautiful job!!!! I'd love to see you make those wooden cheese knives as a gift idea this year. If you were looking for another 💡
That would be fun to turn and paint. great job Steve
The turning was actually fun! Every time I use the lathe, I wish I used it more so I could get better at it.
Really nice job Steve!!!
Great job, Steve!
Great build video. Enjoyed your Harry's commercial, very funny.
Ok, this is super cool Steve!
looks like you've cleaned the joint up!
Great job Steve!
You should make more and sale them LOL
Really nice job Steve!
Great looking nutcracker! I've been considering options for making a nutcracker without a lathe, my recent thought is to cut apart pre-made table legs and mix & match the various sections until I find consistent proportions for a whole body.
Great work Steve! That thing had lots of fiddly little parts and difficult paint
Very clever idea to turn both arms at the same time out of one piece. Respect!! :o)
Beautiful work, Steve. My in-laws collect nutcrackers, so I'll have to try my hand at a nutcracker one day too!
3:24 Master of the Handtools !!
Fair play mate, got more patience than me for sure!
Just a suggestion, this might be easier if you use a harder wood. I don't like to turn pine because of the splinters.
Some good turning ideas and I have wanted to do a nutcracker now I will have to do one.
Thanks! Yeah, that pine is very soft.
I think you might want to get a roughing gouge.

WOW!! I am so impressed!
those intros are cracking me up 😂😂😂😂 .. really funny
Haha...thank you!
Turned out great
Cheers
Tim from Wood 4 Nothing
Great project, but i like to see the Nutcracker in action.
I know we mere mortals never see you (Steve) struggle with projects , but at least you were willing to admit you did and three goes at the lever made me thing if this is a decorative Nutcracker why. Thanks Stephen. I actually thought about making it without the movable lever, but decided I needed to drive myself crazy instead!
I come for the MicroJig spot,
stay for the project.
Hahaha!!

Great intro, different styles, same fun. XD
That nutcracker has been skipping leg day...
But seriously, I like it! Thanks, Steve
You crack me up you nutty builder.
Hi Steve. great video's, keep being awesome
Interesting technique with the skew.
I asked you to do this years ago, glad you finally did it.
Don't give up on challenging projects.
Dear Mr.Ramsey, im working on building up my shop and do you have any advice on power tools. I already have a drill press and a miter saw and a workbench If you have any advice please tell me. Thank you so much. +Steve Ramsey
Well, as much of a pain as that was, it really pulled together in the end! Nice work 🤓👍🏼
I love it Steve!
LMAO the promo toward the end is hilarious hahahaha great job lol
Brilliant Steve
Thank you Joseph

Cracking project Steve! ;)
Steve "Livin' Dangerously" Ramsey loves to lathe with his headphone cord hanging out the front!!!
(May I suggest running the cord inside your shirt?)
Stay safe, my friend.
I like to live on the edge!
Awesome job!
You should try using carbide tools. You can get some cheap ones from rockler and they are so much easier to use.
I appreciate the subtle add of "your brother's husband" 😂 you're a good guy Steve. Love this project btw
Thanks
For every new tool you get you should do a mere mini on it.
This is starting to look good. I really hope this is the episode that Steve cusses
amazing. Wish I had a lathe.
That's really cool!
Well well the OG & the YAW 😂
Nice job Steve! I love the woodturning videos! Btw that harry's plug was en pointe :P
Love ur commercials!! LoL!!
The "Your brothers husband" part got me rollin XD
What do you use for mounting tape? Brand or where you buy it. here I can only find the thick stuff yours is like scotch tape.
awesome job
hey it's Matt! awesome
Nice video.
You Rock ! You are the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the nutcracker's hair real human hair removed with a Harry's razor?
Ha!
Did you use softwood? I always turn hardwood; it prevents the "tearout" ;)
Look at all the hand tools! What channel IS this!?
one thing u forgot to mention Steve, was the speed of the lathe when creating the arms & legs
I love this, its a great idea, if only I had a lathe
You should demonstrate how good Harry's is by trying it on Princess MeowMeow. Extra Extra Fancy!!! (Love the video as always. Great close-up shots. Thank you)
Poor PMM! She would not be happy!
So, Chess pieces this year?, love your vids.
Nice work. Where can I get the templates like the ones that you used.
Hahaaha... Your brothers husband!!!
I'd put that on my mantel 👏
Beautiful project! Nice chisel work too! lol! :)
I have to give it some use once in a while or it feels neglected.
might have to had to make extra jaw handles, but at least now you're ready for the MHL (Mouse Hockey League) LOL
Steve, I would love to see you and Jimmy Diresta do a project together..
I think this is the first time I hear Matt's voice!
