Massimo Canonico commodity switches mean that you can buy off the shelf switches and which can be programmed in any way you like. Their software is not tied to any particular vendor and their costs are low because of economy of scale.

Could you explain better what do you mean with "commodity switches"? Is a switch that you can program, without any software installed on it? Thanks!
