cool little trick! back wheel on my dads van was so out of balance that it ended up wearing the brake pads to the metal after 20k miles. My theory is that the metal on metal made a lot of heat and made the wheel even more stuck to the hub. e brake trick did the trick though!
If its a front wheel you can loosen the lugs a turn and with the brakes on tight on a high traction surface turn the steering back and forth to brake the hub free.
