My biggest gripe with Social 3.0 is that most of the platforms that have "outlasted the competition" no longer have congregational third-places that are decentralized from anyone's personal profile, like an area for forums and thought exchange a la Reddit. The closest thing most platforms have is the comment section under any given piece of media that's uploaded, which can be extremely transactional and shallow, and doesn't really encourage conversation with other non-connected netizens beyond people hashing out flamewars or disagreements for the most part. That's what made Social 2.0 so great and special, imo. And what we have now, outside of Reddit and Facebook groups (but c'mon, who still uses FB??), just doesn't cut it.
Very insightful. It's important to be intentional about consumption of all media.
Social media brings out the best and the worst out of humanity.
It really does...especially when there is money involved.
