ENGLISH TRANSLATION (Part 2) [Not my translation] Kozyrev: What kind of music did you listen to when you were a child? Maybe there were favorite artists, records? Aurora: At that time we did not have a radio in our house, so I could not listen to a lot of music, but my parents loved listening to Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, and also the singer Anew, so most of the time I listened to these performers, what played at home ... I also really like classical music and heavy metal or hard rock. But I think this state of affairs pushed me to create music, to learn to play the piano. It seemed to me that no one in the world had yet written a perfect song, and I thought: “Well, well, then this is my mission! So I have to write such a song for myself! " I fell in love with music at a very young age and realized very early on how important it is, because music can make us feel fantastic things that cannot be experienced through anything else, you know? I think Kozyrev: How did you get acquainted with Scandinavian folk music? When I listen to your singing, I clearly perceive these folklore, ethnic notes. Perhaps you have heard your neighbors singing Norwegian folk songs? Or have you heard them at some festivities? Aurora: You can hear them ... It seems to me that at some point in my life I ran into them, with folk songs, but the strongest feeling that I experience when I sing comes from my belly, from some place in my body, oh which you do not suspect exists. It’s like an animal instinct, I’m guided by something similar in the process of singing. I never think - and you don't need to think when you sing, you just need to sing and feel. I think that's why my voice sounds so natural, because it sounds from my own nature. I think all sounds come from nature, from Mother Earth, because music is something more than us. But yes, I like folk, I like folk songs from all over the world, I think I like folk music in principle, Russian folk music too, as if it sounds from something very ancient, from the depths of time. Kozyrev: Are you familiar with Russian culture in general? Do you know any performers, names? Aurora: I don't know many names, but I really like traditional costumes, but, unfortunately, I will not name names. I think I should learn more about this, because in Russia there are so many different things that represent art in its purest form, you know ... Something absolutely peculiar, special in colors, images, architecture, clothes, wood carving, for example ... Me all this is terribly like it, because it is insanely beautiful. Many things. At home I have two belts, reminiscent of elements of old Russian clothing, national costume, of course, this inspires me, inspires me to create a stage image in particular ... Once upon a time I saw a film about a girl singing in a choir, a Russian film, and actors in the film was sung in such a way that it sunk deep into my heart. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name, in my opinion, it was some old TV show, but it was the best thing I've heard in my life. I tried to find this film again, although I heard it only once, but so far it has not been successful, although I would really like to hear it again. Kozyrev: Yes, I understand you, the tradition of choral singing in Russia is very strong, and every corner has its own peculiarities of choral singing, and this really, as they say, takes a soul. Kozyrev: Tell me, I heard that there is a very popular TV series in Norway called Occupied. Aurora: Yes. Kozyrev: Have you watched it? Aurora: No, I didn't. Kozyrev: Okay, okay. Forget it. Kozyrev: Once you said that you don't think you were born an artist, and you had to learn this and overcome stage fright. Are you still scared to perform? Aurora: No. Kozyrev: It's great. What was it like performing at the Oscars? Aurora: Oh, that was fun. All these people that you don't see, but they work behind the scenes, the team that is in charge of organizing the ceremony, they are all fantastic and very nice people. The vibes of the collaboration were very positive and great, making the experience just amazing. Of course, it was weird to be involved in something so big, to be aware of how many people are watching the ceremony at home, and it was also weird to see all these actresses and actors sitting in front of you in the hall. But also ... I think it was much more fun to give a concert in St. Petersburg than to perform at the Oscars. Such performances are not on my list of favorites, because this is some other world, you know? Kozyrev: I understand. Were you more nervous before performing at the Nobel Prize or Academy Awards? What was more difficult? Aurora: Definitely at the Nobel Prize. This performance was the scariest one for me. When I was younger, I was much more nervous, so I was very scared. I don't think at all that I was destined to be so public. This is not natural for anyone, and even more so for me. Therefore, yes, the presentation of the Nobel was scarier.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION (Part 1) [Not my translation] Kozyrev: And now I have Aurora on the air! Aurora, hello! Aurora: Hello! Kozyrev: My name is Misha. Is this your first interview for a Russian audience? Aurora: Not at all, but today ... But today is the first. Kozyrev: Yeah, well, it's already good! Tell us about your new song The Secret Garden, which will sound in the film of the same name. Aurora: I love reading books since childhood, as a child I read a lot and loved to compose music, and I wrote this song a few years ago, I was 14 or 15. And now, when we took up the film again, I thought it was just fate, After all, I have a song with the same name - The Secret Garden for the film of the same name, and I was asked to write music for the film, and I replied that I have a song of the same name, and that this is fate, and that they need to listen to this long-written song because I think they should definitely like it. And they listened! It was a great joy for me, because this film and this song are ideally combined with each other, because the film tells such a bizarre, but sad and very beautiful story, and the song tells the same thing, about the search for a magical, all-healing place, and I believe in that Kozyrev: Did you have such a place as a child, your own "mysterious garden"? Aurora: Yeah. Kozyrev: What was that? Aurora: Mine had fewer flowers, but more huge trees, a more frightening version of the Mysterious Garden, because the Norwegian forests ... And I think the Norwegian and Russian forests are similar! They are, you know, full of secrets, mysterious. When I was little, I spent a lot of time in nature, I liked it less in the company of people, I liked being alone, spending time wandering in the woods, so yes, of course, I had my own version of such a magical place. Kozyrev: Do you believe that trees also have a soul? Aurora: Yes! Because why not? The world is a very strange place, and I like to wake up in the morning knowing that the trees around me have a soul, because this knowledge makes life more amazing and more beautiful, don't you think so? Therefore, yes, I am convinced of this. And it is also extremely curious to think about how long some trees live, and how much they managed to see. If trees could talk, I would love to hear their stories. Kozyrev: What was it like growing up in a Norwegian village? What are the pros and cons? Aurora: It was good for me because we had few neighbors and I loved feeling so much space when I was a child, I was lucky to grow up in such a remote place in close contact with nature, which was everywhere. I loved the weather, I love when the days are gray and cool, not warm, so Norway is the perfect place for me and I love the people living there too. They are so simple and real, for me it is very valuable when people can be themselves. Although I believe that people in Norway could be more open-minded, emotional, cry more often, perhaps. In general, I think that people all over the world too rarely give vent to emotions, and I was a very emotional child, and even now, in general, I am also very emotional. Probably, this is the only thing that I would like to change so that people open up more, especially in Norway and, I think, in Russia, we all need this, we need to learn to cry and express our emotions, this is very important. Kozyrev: In one of your interviews, I read that in order to buy milk, you had to ride a bike for about forty minutes, this is a serious distance! Aurora: Well yes! But if we had a car, it would, of course, be faster. However, when my older sisters and I wanted to get something to eat or buy ice cream in the summer, we had to ride our bike for a long time. But now we have strong legs! Kozyrev: Tell me ... I must tell you that many years ago I interviewed Bjork, and she surprised me, because she said that whenever she wanted to sing, she went to the seashore, the shore ocean, and sang to the waves. Please answer, when you wanted to sing, did you go into the forest and sing to the trees? Aurora: Yes, sometimes, but, you know, what's the weirdness, I ... I sang little as a child, less than you might think, because silence has always been my favorite thing in nature. Peace. I love being in the woods because it is practically the only really quiet place. There is so much noise in the world, schools, work, people are everywhere and endless noise ... And in the forest there is absolute silence, which has attracted me so much since childhood. I could just enjoy the buzzing of insects in the air or the rustling of small animals in the fallen leaves ... My favorite sound in the world is the sound of absolute silence.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION (Part 3) [Not my translation] Kozyrev: Is it true that you recorded your part on the soundtrack to Frozen in an old English church? How it was? Aurora: It was magical. There was a whole team from Los Angeles. They were very tired from the long flight, but they were cute nonetheless. They sat in a tiny room, looking through the window at me. In general, I was alone in this large hall, singing my own [sings]. And they were in another room, looking at me and waiting for the magic to happen. It was very funny. Yes, and we did it in two nights. Kozyrev: Acoustics! I'm very curious about acoustics. Did the church add magic? Aurora: Definitely! And it was very natural. The echo that made the voice last longer is so natural for churches. There was a feeling that my voice soared up to the ceiling, flew through the stained glass, and then came back and hit my forehead. Kozyrev: Tell me, what was the most unusual place where you ever sing? I saw you perform with the Norwegian Gay Choir. It was magical because you were surrounded by nature. Was there anything else similar? What's the weirdest place you've ever played in? Aurora: I performed right in the middle of the forest, it was really magical. Everyone who was there was bitten by tiny midges. It was a little annoying, but it was magical anyway. Kozyrev: What country was it in? In Norway? Aurora: Yes, it was in Norway. By the way, very close to the place where I grew up. I also performed in the morgue, right when the corpses were being prepared there. Kozyrev: How did you end up there? What was the idea? Why the morgue? Aurora: Well, I had a little tour a couple of years ago and I wanted to perform in strange locations like old churches, libraries or morgues to get a new experience. Because when you play a lot, you usually get tired of the usual halls and clubs and you need something more exciting. And I thought it would be interesting. Kozyrev: Has anyone woken up in the morgue? Aurora: Maybe 1-2 corpses. Kozyrev: I will ask some strange questions. First, how many words are there in Norwegian to describe snow? Aurora: I think at least 10-11. Maybe more. Kozyrev: Can you name a couple? Aurora: We have the simplest word for snow [speaks Norwegian]. There is also [speaking in Norwegian]. In general, we have a lot of dialects, so I think that in fact there are even more such words. Because when you imagine all these dialects, in which there may be other words for snow altogether, I suppose that we have about 40 such words in total. Depends on who is asked. Oh god, that's so much! Kozyrev: This is because snow plays a big role in your life, just like in Russia. Now tell me, do you know a Norwegian band that is popular all over the world? Aurora: Okay, yeah. Kozyrev: Of course, because everyone knows them. You are probably even tired of them. Aurora: Of course, Kygo, if you've heard of him, is such a DJ. Kozyrev: Yes. Aurora: He's great, I know him well. I think he's a good person. Alan Walker seems to be Norwegian too. Sigrid is a girl from Norway. I also like Astrid S, I think someone knows her. And also "Girl in red" is a new, young performer. Yes, we have a lot of wonderful things happening in music. I also like some Heavy Metal bands like Gorgoroth or Kvelertak. It all depends on what you are listening to. I'm a big Heavy Metal fan. Yes, we have some groups. Kozyrev: The next question will be very personal. In one of your interviews, I read that you wash one foot in the evening and the other only in the morning. It's true? Aurora: Yes, sometimes I feel like I only want to wash one leg, and then I go to bed and don't put that leg under the covers. And the other leg is under the covers. The leg, which I washed, dries outside in the air. And when I wake up, my other leg heats up under the covers, so I already wash it. Kozyrev: Great, so it's still true. What do you think of Greta Thunberg? Aurora: I think the world needs people who can fight for what's left of our planet. I think it's great when people are so confident in what they believe. There are people on the other side of the barricades who do not believe in global warming at all. And it's great that we have very brave people who are fighting for the environment. I think this is great. And I hope that more and more people will be a little closer to the middle and understand that we need to take more care of the world, we need to change something. But it will take time. Because, you know, people are still starving - we still have so many problems to be solved. But I hope that the countries that can afford it will make the biggest changes because it is so important. And I really like Greta. I hope so too, Kozyrev: Thank you, I also think this is very important. And my last question: I really like cider, apple cider. Aurora: Yes? Truth? Kozyrev: What is special about Norwegian cider, what should I try? Aurora: Oh, we have so much good apple cider. I have a few friends who make it themselves. Friends of my family own the most famous brand of apple cider in Norway. Norwegian cider is my favorite because it is more acidic and less sweet. It is very important not to make it too sweet. Its taste should have apple freshness and acidity. It is very important! In general, we have a lot of natural cider, it has such a farmer's taste, but of course apple cider too. Very tasty. You just have to try everything. We have so many kinds. Many people love independent factories that make different types of apple cider. I recommend that you just go and try everything. Kozyrev: Thank you very much. Aurora, this was my most charming interview in years. Thank you very much. We are looking forward to a new song and a new movie. I remind my listeners and viewers to go and see this movie. Have a nice day, I hope to see you at a concert in Russia. Aurora: Yes, I love performing in Russia. You have the best people, and there is always such energy in the hall. The love that you get while performing in Russia is just fantastic. I really hope to return to Russia as quickly as possible when the world reopens. Thank you for inviting me, and also for your time and for everything. Kozyrev: Thank you, goodbye!
A thousand thanks for taking the time to translate and type it all out. I wish they put Russian subtitles instead of voiceover, but it is what it is. So thank you so much for this!

Although I believe that people in Norway could be more
open-minded, emotional, cry more often, perhaps.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION (Part 3)
[Not my translation]
Kozyrev: Is it true that you recorded your part on the soundtrack to Frozen in an old English church?
I hope so too,
Kozyrev: Thank you, I also think this is very important.
Thank you so much for translating all of this. It must have been hours and hours of work! Thank you Warrior

I can't stand when I watch a foreign movie that's dubbed without the option for subtitles.
