Pontiac Vibe Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (Fan Only Working On 2 of 4 Speeds Fix)

- Today I teach you how to fix your car's fan when it works on some speeds but not on others. The part needed to fix this is called a Blower motor resistor, and is held on by two bolts. It can be accessed under the glove box and I will show you how easy it is. The fan worked on all speeds after resistor was installed

I want to thank you for this video. My 2006 Vibe speed control for the heater only worked on high. The mechanic I took it to said $800. to fix it. I said no thanks. I looked at your video. Order the part on Amazon. Bought the tools you recommended. I fixed it myself! The part was less than $20. Plus the tools. The back screw was hard to get to but finally got it out. Now all speeds work. By the way I am a 71 year old grandmother. Thank you!
That’s absolutely awesome. I’m glad it helped. A lot of mechanics are ripping innocent people off. I always enjoy hearing the positive outcomes of my videos. Especially when people save money. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe and keep up the good work. Ps I miss my vibe. It was a great car.
Can you share the link for the part that you bought on Amazon?
I did not buy this part on Amazon. I bought it at a local junk yard.
Thanks for this video! I put off doing this job in my vibe for 5 years! I thought it would be way too hard to get to and at least on the high setting I had AC and heat.. I just went and bought that adjustable socket for my wrench and got a 7 and 32 socket and I did this in 10 minutes with a forehead flashlight on.
Excellent. I’m glad the video assisted you. Enjoy the new proper running fan. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
My 06 vibe is doing the exact same thing, only blowing air on the last 2 settings. This looks simple enough. Thanks so much for the video!
You’re very welcome. Glad to help. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe. Ps as you commented on this video I was finishing up filming my Chevy equinox blower motor resistor video. What are the odds lol.
Thank you sir, I really appreciate your video. I hope you have a great day!
I will thank you. I hope you do as well. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
Tough to get to the rear bolt, but your video saved the day! Awesome!
Thanks. Always glad to hear the reach of my videos. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe.
Question: My blower only works on high so I decided to take out the resistor today and unplugged the wire first. But before taking out the bolts I turned the key on and the blower still can on. Why or how?
BRAVO and great thanks. Not an easy fix due to needing to be a contortionist. But, it works! Tough time even with a semiflexible driver getting the right angle, especially on the back bolt to loosen it. I realized I might have a coiled flexible shaft driver or small to medium size and that helped given the tough angle on the back bolt. And when installed and tried out - perfect. THANK YOU< THANK YOU< THANK YOU.
I’m glad it fixed your issue. I’ve seen those coil type flex shafts for screwdrivers at our local dollar store. I think those would be handy for this task. I agree with you on the flexibility of the body. I had a good sized bruise on my back from where I was bent over the sill and I also had skinned knuckles from the friction trying to remove that back bolt. But it was worth it to fix my mom’s car and give her a proper working fan. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
man that fuckin rear bolt is so hard to reach ! i ended up only using a socket extension with my hand...
Oh ya. It’s a tough one. I had to take that part out of a vibe from a junkyard. So I had the added obstacle of trying not to get wet as it was a car with no doors or windows and it just rained the night before
@@BillOfAllTrades2016 damn! turns out I bought a brand new, and it does not change anything, I probably have to change the blower motor like I thought...
Always buy what you can at the junk yard. So much cheaper. They usually have whole blower fan and motors for like $70
@@BillOfAllTrades2016 yeah i've never been to a junkyard. maybe i'll try it next summer, cause in the winter, not sure i'll do that
Ya the weather isn’t good for going to a junkyard. A lot of them have a small stock room of common items so if you call ahead they may be able to get you what you need so you won’t have to do it yourself
Thank you so much! Everything works perfectly now! Like someone said above, the rear bolt was a bit hard to get to, but this was fairly easy.
You’re very welcome. Yes that bolt was a bit of a pain. But patience is always key when working on any car. Many bolts are like that one angled inconveniently. I’m glad you sorted it all out. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
Execellent video sir, helped me fix my fan speed issue, with an Amazon resistor.
Nice. I’m glad it helped. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
Thank you so much for making this video. I followed your instructions and was able to fix my Vibe's blower issue,!
Thanks for watching. That’s awesome. Always glad to hear from my viewers. Please like and subscribe
Wow u made that look easy! That 1/4” swivel is awesome to have ain’t it! My 2007 is kinda doing the same thing. Fan turns on/off intermittently. I’m gonna try this.
Yes I have all three size swivels. Makes working in tight places a breeze. Best of luck to you in your repair. Hope the video helps. Please like and subscribe
Thank you for the video , short extension helped with rear bolt.
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
Thanks! A real pain in the patoot to access, but problem solved!
I glad the video helped. GM has since made this part easier to access on newer vehicles… a surprise as they usually make it harder. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
Can't wait to try this. I have the exact problem on a 2003 Vibe. First it was only low that didn't work, now it's low and medium-low. Did I miss it or has no one provided a replacement part number?
I never had a part number for it. I just went to the junk yard and asked for a blower motor resistor. I also had to take it out of the junker myself but for $28 I wasn’t gonna complain. Hopefully you found this helpful. And maybe you want to take the adventure to go to the junk yard as well. Recycling helps. Hope it all works out for you. Please like and subscribe
@@BillOfAllTrades2016 Thanks for the quick reply, Bill! Never been to a junk yard before. Sounds like fun.
You’re welcome. It is fun. I advise wearing steel toes when you go if you have them. It pains me to see the people going there in flip flops. It makes the end result feel like more of a success because you literally did all the work. I also had the fun of a rainy day at the junkyard too.
Perfect video. This is exactly what I needed.
Thanks for watching. Hope the fix went well.
Bill Of All Trades Brantford it went perfect. I got the swivel socket you recommended. I’m not mechanically inclined like I want to be but I was able to contortion my body to get the right angle. Everything went perfect the first try.
Glad to hear that. If you want to try changing your oil, I also have a video for the vibe oil change. And it’s very simple and good practice. If you can do this fix, an oil change is child’s play after that.
@@BillOfAllTrades2016 great video! What was the swivel socket you used? I’m having trouble finding one like that. Thanks!
Thanks for watching. That bit I used is called a joint socket adapter. Mine came with a 150 piece craftsman set I bought years ago. But you can buy just the adapter at Canadian tire. If you don’t reside in Canada, they have on amazon as well. Here is a link to a good one. It has 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 in a set: Auoon Universal Joint Set Joint Adapter Ratchet Socket Universal Sleeve Manual Tool Designed for All The Hexagonal Side Handle 1/4-Inch 3/8-Inch 1/2-Inch Drive Set 3-Piece Chrome Vanadium Steel www.amazon.ca/dp/B075GJ1BLZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_likQFbG96MDMH
Wherever you get your tools from you can ask for a joint socket adapter and they should have them. Please like and subscribe
Where's the fuse located for the blower motor occasionally my blower fan just stops working (doesnt work on any speed) but later starts up again not sure what it is
I’ve never had to locate the fuse for it and no longer own the vehicle to find out. However here is a link to the fuse box diagram. Hope it helps. Please like and subscribe
Did you ever figure out what it was ? Mine just started doing that as well
I didn't the Fix for me was the electrical connection to the fan motor has a crappy plastic clip. If you use your blower for too long the plastic clip heats up and melts which short out the connection. I replaced it and it's worked ever since.
Thank you sir
