Pochutla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
40 years of experience as a shoe shiner earns MANUEL a lot of respect in town. Gossip means chisme in Mexico. Friends sit around his street shoe shine stall, his name on a big sign, and gossip about the weather and politics.
I walked up to Manuel, with my brown leather shoes, and asked the price for a shoe shine. He and his friends welcomed me to sit down.
He used brown polish for the leather and black shoe polish for the shoe soles. He took off my shoe laces, a sign of a very professional shoe shine. He is fantastic.
Traveling Oaxaca has been a joy. It is nothing short of magical.
Pochutla is a main city, near Puerto Escondido, Mazunte Beach, and Zipolite Beach.

I had a lot of shoe shines in Honduras but this man is a master at it. I like the way he puts shields around the ankles to keep from getting stuff on your socks.

And thanks for sharing the pleasure, class and might I say virtues of classic leather shoes. One of my greatest pleasures when traveling for business was getting a shoe shine in places like that.
